Travelodge Hotel Nottingham Central Reviews

Sep 2006, Mr O R

I stayed in the Travelodge in Nottingham Central and was very disappointed with the service I received. I returned to my room in the evening to find that my key card was not working. I complained to reception but they claim that nothing could be done until the morning. As... more

Still great value
2nd time in a month stayed here after good experience before. Again midweek and again £29-bargain. Got even bigger room this time-family room. Again very clean and got the tv, coffee/tea making, great shower. This time took wife and she was impressed and thats saying something As a result then booked 4 visitng colleagues from holland the following month for a whole week. They had no complants. Enjoyed breakfast apparently
Good and bad
The reviews here are pretty accurate I think. Stayed 3 nights midweek in June. Good: Cost - for me £30 per night. Next cheapest I could find were youth hostels, which would have been OK except this was work so I wanted a better guarantee of sleep, some privacy, and to be able to leave lots of stuff in my room. Location - near the tram, near all the pub-restaurant-chains, near the station. Check in late. You don't really have to speak to anyone again if you don't want to. Clean. Bad: A bit of noise from the street every night, even though I was almost on the top floor. Windows needed to be closed. A bit of noise from other rooms - some kind of group or party going on near me in the early hours on one night - enough to wake me up for half an hour. Smoking somewhere nearby - probably next door - made me feel like I was sleeping in an ashtray one night in particular. This was really horrible. Getting woken up by a drunk smoking woman knocking loudly on the door at 3.15am one night "Oh sorry love I've got the wrong room, they are all next door" I'd stay again for the same purpose, but I wouldn't bring the family with me here. And if I wasn't working I'd try a youth hostel instead.
Could be better...
Dont expect too much for £30 a night. The rooms are ok, but there were some problems. On our first night, you could hear the people next room making noises ( I wont go into details , but you can imagine what they were doing). My problem is that you can hear everything and the walls are so thin. Also, they dont provide you with shower gel and proper towels, so you must bring your own. Rooms are clean, but there is not enough light available in the room. It feels a bit depressing inside. TV, they dont have sky channel. For one-two nights is ok- but more I dont recommend it .
Perfect for Stag and Hen, possibly not for a romantic weekend.
Great location, 5 mins from the castle, 5 mins to the market square. Bar open to 5am. Rooms clean (think Ikea), bathrooms looked new. I suspect myself like many guests only use the rooms for a couple of hours! At first glance there are only Stag and Hens here at weekend, although I did spot a few 'lost' families. Airconditioned throughout, but I could open the windows if needed although this did give some traffic noise in the morning. Stayed on the 6th floor, I could not hear other residents.
Usual high standard
I use Travelodges a lot because I have always found them consistently good so when I read the negative reviews here, I was concerned. However, I've just stayed a (Thursday) night and all was absolutely fine - clean, quiet and only £15!!!!!
An utter disgrace
Yes, this is a Travelodge - you can't expect too much. However, you expect the basics (which Travelodge make a big song and dance about), namely a clean comfortable room. This hotel was a disgrace. Check in was totally shambolic. Untrained, hassled, rude staff. Then to the room. Roasting hot with a dirty feel. The "sofa bed" was nothing of the sort, nevertheless, having tried to "build" it I discovered a used condom on the mattress. Used. It made me physically sick. On going downstairs to inform the staff, I was greeted with a relaxed "oh well - let's see if we can change your room". No apology, no offer to reduce the charge, no free drink. Nothing. The new room was dirty, hot, cramped and the bathroom was rank. Stay here at your peril. You have been warned.
Dirty & Noisy but good location
i wouldn't stay here again because its like a zoo, after a pleasant night out we returned to the hotel about 1am & there was a trail of scattered chips & kebabs in the lift & throughout the corridors...nice. Plenty of room parties going on & some people brought their own music...luckily we took some earplugs Plenty of other hotels on the same street & we stay at the Brittania now
Fantastic Value
Stayed here for one night when we went to a gig at Rock City. Fantastic service on Reception. Room was big and clean and very quiet considering the main road location. Would definately reccommend for a budget stay, for £26 you couldnt ask for more.
good value
Stayed at this Travelodge for £26 a night which is very good value. It is a new hotel and as such the decor and cleanliness are reflected in the standard of furnishing. The location is excellent just a few minutes walk into the city centre. The room was a good size with a TV. But did not have a hairdryer or telephone. When we got back to the room at 1am we discovered there was only one set of towels but couldnt phone reception to get anymore and at that time of night i couldnt be bothered to go to reception, so dont know if that is standard or not. (but what do you want for £26!!) There is no parking but you can park in a near by NCP car park and get a discount, it is a few minutes walk from the hotel and only cost £9 from 8pm until 11am the next day.
For £26 you can't go wrong
Stayed here over xmas - This is a brand new hotel in the centre of Nottingham and about a 10 minutes walk from the train station. There isn't any parking at the hotel and the nearby NCCP is expensive for overnight (something like £13) you can leave it on the street after 6pm for free but have to be back at your car by 8am to feed the meter otherwise you'll get a ticket (the traffic warden's were actually stood waiting for 8am when I went out!) The meters are across the road near the castle and are 50p per half hour. The hotel staff were friendly, we were allocated a room on the 3rd floor. It was clean and a good size and light (there were two large windows) - the only downside was that there was only one small radiator and the room was cold. Breakfast was about £6.50 but it was buffet eat all you want, bacon, sausages, hash browns, scrambled eggs, beans, cereal, croissants, toast etc All in all the hotel is just another travelodge - very convenient for the town centre and for £26 a night a bargain (they also were promoting £10 a night rooms).
