Riverside?
I managed to book a room here on the internet for £29 in preference to booking in at Nottingham Central. For that price I suppose you should only expect the basics, and that's exactly what you get. A double en-suite bedroom with shower over the bath, terrestrial TV, one bath towel and one bar of Travelodge soap. Be under no illusion that this Travelodge offers stunning views of the River Trent, it is actually located about 1 mile from the city centre near a Park and Ride car park (handy for day time trips into the city), on a large industrial estate which is home to TNT and Comet distribution warehouses, so expect traffic noise throughout the night. I certainly couldn't see any river close by! But the biggest drawback is the lack of anywhere to eat locally. The Harry Ramsden restaurant has closed and work has started converting the premises to a "Family Restaurant" due to open in Feb.2008. The only alternative was a brisk walk into the city and so the Travelodge Central may have been a better selection.
You get the basics which is what Travelodge is about
Stayed for two nights midweek in a family room paying £26 a night. I have stayed in other Travelodge's so I knew what to expect as far as the rooms go- the pics from the earlier reviews are spot on. Had to wait 10 minutes at check-in as no-one was at the desk. The lift stank. Got a room at the front of the hotel and there is a "chilled food" warehouse across the car park and street. This is a 24 hour operation and was quite noisy at night with lorries and the constant sound of industrial blowers. The hotel has double glzing but the sound still gets through and takes time to adjust to. So I would suggest asking for a room at the back of the hotel where it may be quieter. The hotel (and the guests!) itself was quiet- perhaps it was because it was midweek.
Do Travel Lodge directors read this??
if you like drunks and fights in the car park, this is for you! Had a ground floor room that was non smoking but stank of tobacco. After a tiring journey from E.Anglia what could be better than a nice cold shower. Why not dry yourself off with clean but a musty smelling set of towels. Don't worry warm yourself by the wall heater that reaches a maximum of what seemed like 5 degrees. Lay awake at 3am (after the being entertained by the bouts of fistcuffs in the car park) and listen to the 2 or 3 left overs 'sprinkling' the wall ouside your window. This is an establishment where you wipe your feet before stepping out to take the fresh air!
Travelodge Over Booking Avoid
I booked the Travelodge hotel at Nottingham Riverside on Monday 16th July to attend my son’s university graduation. The hotel was booked approx. 4 weeks in advance and was chosen because of its location to the university. Despite paying for the hotel and after a long drive from Dorset we were told on arrival that there was no room available. Although another hotel (not a Travelodge) was offered in another part of town this was completely useless to us because of its location and involved us in wasted time and extra costs. This practice is completely reprehensible (I was informed by staff at the Travelodge that it is company policy) and would appear to be a clear breach of contract. I am at present taking the matter up with my MP and asking him to ask the relevant Consumer Minister to consider introducing legislation (like airlines) to penalise companies who act in this way. In the meantime I suggest that you avoid Travelodges at all cost unless you want to risk being left without a room.
Very Dissapointing
I booked 2 nights here at the end of May and paid £29 per room. Both rooms were family rooms as there were no doubles left, and each room was only occupied by 1 person in our case. The Positives: • Comfortable Bed, • Big room, • Near to Nottingham Centre (and good Park and Ride into the city), • Cheap room (£29 for double en-suite with sofa and pullout too, was ok for 1 person, but for 3 or 4 people, £29 is a fantastic price.) The Negatives: • Rooms were still being cleaned after check-in opened, • I had no teabags in my room for some reason (just an error, but I wasn’t happy at having no tea. The next day I left a note and I was given teabags.), • Being with family rooms, I could hear the noise of families, especially small children, • I found the room too hot and stuffy, • The shower went cold for a second a few times, and this was a bit of a shock, • We had keys, not key cards – which are far more secure, • The shower leaked everywhere through poor fitting, •The pullout had a dead moth on it – general cleanliness was poor. Overall, a shame about the noise and the few mistakes made by the staff and the noise, but a comfortable nights sleep. If possible, book a double room to get away from family noise (it was half term, so there were lots of families.) Ground floor corridor smelt of smoke, presumable from smoking rooms, which is just something that is inevitable. I had a non-smoking room and I certainly had no problems with the smell from there. I was slightly concerned about being on an industrial estate, but the buildings are alright, and the hotel has CCTV, and there isn’t really a feeling of insecurity. Staff – Receptionist miserable and not too friendly. 1/5 Location – Close to City Centre and main roads 4/5 Room – Good size, furnishings alright (showing a bit of age – nothing brand new, but all works fine) 3/5 Noise – Very noisy from other families, and delivery lorries etc. left engines running at night. 1/5 Would I stay again? No – even for £29 the noise was too annoying, the smell of smoke was disgusting, the staff were miserable, the cleanliness and customer care were disappointing. For this hotel, Travelodge certainly cared more for my money, than for me as a customer. London was great, and cheaper – being a brand new hotel, and I liked Travelodge after that stay, but from now on I won’t be using them again. If this is a typical Travelodge, I will certainly not use them again. I may look into staying at new hotels, as these are fine, but I was very disappointed at this hotel.
cheap and basic
we stayed here with three kids during wet whitsun not exactly the best i had stayed at. staff helpful once they got over the shock of a guest asking for help! desk generally unmanned.Harry Ramsdens was expensive and poor standard - had to find my own menu. My husband and I both think they fetched the fish from Whitby whilst we waited. However when my son sleepwalked out of room staff were very helpful and sympathetic think he thought we going to complain about revellers coming in as they had been noisy! (2.30am) if i had paid more than £15 per room i would be upset but for that cant complain too much
Cheap
Is in an OK location for Nottingham if you have a car. Most town centre hotels don't have a car park. It's a no frills deal, but for 29 per night I got a double bed room with settee and an en-suite bath room - preferable to a shower for me personally. The decor in the hotel and the hallways isn't the greatest and it's due a lick of paint. There were no non-smoking rooms available so I was in a smoking room and it did stink a bit. Breakfast is not included but the travelodge is next to a harry ramsden's. However, I was the only customer there ( room for 250 diners ), I picked an english cooked breakfast but I regretted it. Beans were cold, egg was 'minging', sausages were very low quality. Bacon and toast was OK, mug of tea was strangely fantastic. As I hadn't eaten much the waitress charged me only for the tea.
Does just what it says on the tin
Typical Travelodge, no real complaints. We only saw one member of staff, who checked us in. When we checked out there was nobody, so we just dropped our key in the slot and left. Bed was very comfortable and tea and coffee plentiful. The hotel has no breakfast room, but Macdonalds and Starbucks (in the nearby Sainsburys) are very close. My only criticism would be the lack of security. When there's no-one on the desk, anyone can just wander in up to the rooms. (The Travelodge in Covent Garden has excellent security, with an access door that could only be opened with a key card, so I was a bit disappointed in Nottingham) . However, for £29 per room per night, you can't beat it for value.
