Well what can I say about Bestwood lodge Hotel? We had our parent’s 50th wedding anniversary there and we hired a private dinning room for 15 of us. the room was made available to us any time during the day so we could come and decorate the room with banners balloons etc prior to the evenings event and from the moment we introduced our self the staff couldn’t do enough for us, even offered to help un load the car.
The room they gave us was fantastic and set out beautifully.
When all the guests arrived in the evening everyone was impressed with the hotel.
The food was great and plenty of it too and again the staff did an excellent job of looking after us and nothing was to much trouble for them.
We all had a fantastic time and every thing went smoothly thanks to the kind and very helpful staff
We would recamend this hotel to anyone

I arrived at the Hotel On a Tuesday...

May 2008, Mr JS Bond

I arrived at the Hotel On a Tuesday morning around 11am. Check in was friendly, About the best service I recieved at the hotel they was very helpful.
The room was ok apart from the bathroom from the 70's with mouldy green tiles, an OLD OLD TV with 5 channels which you could only actually watch 2 of them. Havnt they heard of SKY/Freeview????
That evening we went to the restaurant around 8pm, When we walked in there was nobody to seat us for at least 10 minutes which i found awful. Once seated I noticed the ONLY person working in the restaurant was also the barmaid!! which made the service very slow and bad. The food was suprisingly good which i wasn't exspecting but a bit overpriced.
I then noticed the waiter/barmaid vanished out the emergency exit for 5-10 minutes then came to see if i wanted a desert STINKING of fags! it made me feel ill. what worried me the most was that she didnt wash her hands to my knowledge.
I orderd a pint of casltemain xxxx and paid around £3 which i felt was exspensive but it was flat and horrible, i then asked for another which again was flat and cloudy. DO THEY CLEAN THERE LINES?
I think the staff dont get much support from the management as most of the staff didnt seem to have a clue!
Overall:
The views from the hotel its self was excellent, but the services was awful. id give 3/10 but only a 3 because of the receptionists.

My God what a mixture of people at...

My God what a mixture of people at this hotel (and thats staff).
We arrived on Sunday and were really impressed as we drove up...then as we got out the car and started to enter the hotel we had to step over all the cigarette ends....and the people stood by the door smoking!! none of them would move as it was raining! you really would think the owner would not let them smoke by the entrance. When we got to reception we were told they would check to make sure our room was ready as we were early, no problem we sat in the bar until somebody told us everything was ok. Whilst in the bar which was very busy (later found out it was sunday carvery) we tried to get a drink from some old man who was flapping and talking to himself!! Very creepy!
we decided to go up to our room, which although was anice room, they really need to employ proper cleaners...it was dusty and under the bed did not look like it had seen a hoover for weeks.
We decided to eat in the restaurant that eve and were told it was a carvery....lovely.
When we arrived in the restaurant just after 7 it was very quiet so we went straight up to help ourselves.... I could not believe the staff that were serving!! The woman chef? was scruffy and had the most filthiest of finger nails! There was a dumpy bald guy in a suit that stood leaning against the carvery chatting to another short fat guy in dirty chef jacket. To be honest I ended up just having cold meat and salad from the starter as I was concerned about the hygiene!
The views from the restaurant are beautiful but as we were having our coffee and looked out the window all we could see was the man in the suit and the lady that bought our coffee over puffing away on cigarettes!! Yes it is a better place that the front of the hotel but neither of them washed there hands when they came in, the woman went straight up to the carvery and got somebody a pudding and the guy just went back to his leaning stance by the carvery!!!!!
So if you don't mind a crazy man who talks to himself, dirty bedrooms, dirty chefs, and staff more interested in catching up on gossip...then go to Bestwood Hotel...otherwise try a hotel down the road

This hotel is dire! I have never been...

This hotel is dire!
I have never been in a hotel that is so dirty. From the outside as you drive up it looks great but as soon as we walked to the main door there were cigarette butts everywhere and as the day went on we realised why - people gather just outside the door for a smoke (due to the new ban) BUT you would think the hotel would ask people to move away from the door.
Our check-in was fast and friendly and were offered help with our luggage (the hotel has no lift). As we made our way to our room there was dust and cobwebs everywhere!
We walked along the landing to our room ‘Huntington’ and at first view the room was nice but on closer inspection there was dust everywhere, hair in the bathroom and even a dirty cup.
The lady at reception soon got us some clean cups and offered to move us.
So unless you fancy doing your own cleaning when you arrive stay well away.
