Expectations Exceeded
We spent a night in Room 27 (the deluxe 4-Poster room mentioned in an earlier review) and it was wonderful. Roomy and tastefully appointed. Bathroom was nice too. The hotel is charming and everything went without a hitch. The Minster was right outside our window and it was a treat to sip our coffee and watch the floodlit ancient stonework. This was the best value of our 2-week trip and I will definitely return next time we are in York.
Excellent choice in York!
We have just returned from a 2 night stay at The Dean Court Hotel and were very impressed indeed by the standard of service at the hotel. Our room (one of the newly refurbished small doubles), while very small, had a new wall mounted TV/DVD player and a nice bathroom with a corner bath and power shower, and everything was well thought out. The decor was perhaps a little odd, but not unpleasant. The staff were all extremely pleasant and nothing was too much trouble. We didn't have cause to ask for anything out of the ordinary, but I'm... more
Superb Location For Shopping and sightseeing
I stayed here on 15th October. I couldn’t have asked for a nicer hotel. I paid £125 for a small double which when you consider that the Holiday Inn is £99 makes this hotel good value. The room wasn’t the nicest room I’ve ever stayed in, but it was very clean an comfortable (if a bit small – but then it was a small double so what else would you expect!!).. I guess what your paying for is the location and the service its right in the centre, and I found the service exemplary!! We just pulled up outside dropped off our bags..... more
Location, charm and a stunning view...
I have just returned from a weekend in York and stayed at the Best Western on Saturday night. As soon as we booked in we were given a warm welcome and told to hand the car keys to the porter who then parked the car away in their hotel car park (they charge £5 a day and the average parking in York costs £8-10!). We were then shown briefly around the bars/restaurants of the hotel and then finally to our room. Our bags were also taken care of. The room was nicely laid out and compact, with a really high-level ceiling and a tall window.... more
they rely on the location to pull the punters in
Excellent location although noisy on a Saturday night. Breakfast was satisfactory though a long wait for toast one day and on another occasion the potatoes didn't make an appearance. We expected friendly Yorkshire staff but there wasn't many smiles on the serving staff! No mini bar in a room costing £205 per night - yikes?! Have to agree with another reviewer that the decor is odd with contempory style downstairs & old upstairs. At breakfast we booked the window table for dinner but on arrival that evening was told it had been... more
Fantastic Hotel - I wouldn't stay anywhere else!
I have just returned from a weekend stay at the Best Western Dean Court Hotel in York, it was fantastic! From the initial reservation the staff did not put a foot wrong! The location is second to none and the chimes of the Minster bells only add to its charm. The room was lovely and clean with all the mod cons you would expect and one of (if not) the largest bathroom I have ever had in a hotel! The food in the restaurant was perfect and so was the service, nothing was too much trouble. If you are looking for a clean,... more
excellent value and real charm
I stayed 4 nights in July, 2004 and would certainly go back. This is a small, quiet, elegant hotel; no tour groups or large noisy parties. The location is wonderful, with views of the Minster and well-kept picture-postcard streets. Breakfast and dinner (in the formal restaurant) are excellent and I found service good even though the hotel was full. There was a superb traditional English roast-beef dinner on Sunday. There is also a smaller, informal restaurant for lunch or afternoon tea. The Yorkshire Museum, a legitimate theater, many... more
Double booked on our honeymoon
Be sure to check and double check, then check again. We turned up for our honeymoon with our confirmation and guess what no room at the inn ! How about that for a start to married life .They did book us into another hotel and gave us dinner at their expense, but we have gone back to York many times, but guess what never to the Dean court
Very very nice
Booked this hotel based on reviews on here and wasn't disappointed. The plan was for a relaxing weekend with my heavily pregnant wife. We left the 2 year old and the dog with the grandparents and spent a lovely 2 nights at the hotel. The location is second to none, on the doorstep of the Minster and all the old streets. Don't take an alarm clock - the Minster will wake you at 8 am in plenty of time to get down for breakfast. The service in the hotel is, without exception, truly excellent. Our car was parked for us for a very reasonable... more
