Sleepless in Harrogate (not Seattle!)
We arrived at the Hotel mid afternoon and were checked-in by a very abrupt and not very customer friendly reception staff member. We were allocated a double room on an upper floor as requested so we were happy. The room decor was tired and shabby and the bed was without a doubt the worst we have ever had to sleep on!! On our return from an evening out in Harrogate, which was great fun, we were greeted by thumping music blasting our of one of the functions suites - which continued until 1.30am!!!! Although we were on the second floor we... more
disappointed
A bit run down but not uncomfortable and 70s feel. The indoor swimming pool was closed because of rain - that means a poor state of repair. But still I was not bothered because I stayed there only to attend a conference at a nearby venue, which was very convenient. After checking out in the morning of my last day, I picked up a colleague and parked my car back in the hotel car park before going to the conference. An attendant asked if I was staying at the hotel. At the end of the day, when we returned to the car to go home, another car... more
Architypically English
Stayed here for 2 nights with work. The rooms were very quaint and relaxing. Its location is excellent, right beside taxi rank. I thought it was quiet at night. Breakfasts were excellent. Staff very polite
Past glory
The hotel is a dilapidated throw back to Harrogate's glory days and it is a crime that a hotel like this has been left to crumble and fall into disrepair. I can easily see Victorian guests strolling through the various lounges and ballrooms ready to take the water at the next door royal baths. I bet they didn't have to wait the 15 minutes we did for the water to heat up just to be able to take a shower! The standard of service offered by the staff is hit and miss...sometimes they are nice to you, sometimes they are not and sometimes... more
Excellent location
Stayed recently at the Swallow St George, Harrogate. Read the reviews just before leaving home and was quite anxious that I`d made a big mistake in choosing that hotel for a 4 night break. The hotel was however an excellent choice in a perfect, central location. The staff were extremely pleasant, friendly and helpful. The breakfasts were very good indeed as were the snacks taken in the lounge area. The main reception rooms are of elegant preportions with a wonderful 30`s glass dome. The bedrooms were spacious and comfortable but could use... more
Not as bad as we were led to believe.
My friends and i were in Harrogate for the bridal buyer awards, we found the location of the hotel fantastic and were pleasantly surprised with the hotel having read the reviews. All our rooms were clean and spacious and located close together for our convenience. The food was great and the staff were very helpful. My only negative was that smoking was allowed in most areas of the hotel and even in the rooms. Apart from that we had a great time, except we didnt win an award. We was robbed!!!!!!
In need of a makeover
We booked a family room at the hotel and on booking were assured the hotel had secure parking and a large car park. The car park was small and unkept and was hardly what you would call secure! On arrival at reception the reception and bar area was ok and staff very helpful. The bedroom was in desperate need of decorating, main bedroom was ok, the childrens bedroom had bunk beds and lots of flaking paint from the ceiling, there had obviously been a leak at some stage, the room was very dark and the sidelights didn`t work. The bathroom was... more
Nightmare trip
I am due to get married and used to live in ripon. My Mum thought it would be a wonderful idea to take me back to my past. Well all was wonderful until we arrived at the hotel! The idea was for a relaxing night away where we could pamper ourselves using the facilities. The pool was full of children and it was very small! The sauna was crammed only being able to fit 3 in there. I was unable to treat myself with beauty treatments because it was fully booked up. The rooms were dated and unclean. We even found a false nail on the floor. The... more
Rough around the Edges - Staff very lethargic!
We stayed at the Swallow St George this March - thank goodness it was for only one night! We had booked the "honeymoon suite" as a special getaway weekend together. Car parking at the hotel is in some tiny grotty car park at the back where you don't want to leave your car for fear of it being banged due to the tight turn around area (one in one out scenario), oh, and you may get in and out depending on whether the little old man that sits sometimes in the car park, comes and removes the parking cones to let you out! On arrival at the... more
