Oh Dear !

What a tired old place. The paintwork is shabby and often dirty and the carpets patched with tape. The staff are helpful and friendly but are fighting an uphill battle. The food is dreadful, and the cooked breakfast a disgrace. We had to eat out as the evening meal was so poor. The hotel seems to cater for the bus tour brigade and quality is suffering as a consequence.
Harrogate has lots of excellent restaurants not least the Italian just down the road from the hotel.
Would we stay again ? Not on your life !!

The attraction with The Cairn Hotel...
8 / 10
Nov 2007, Miss J Bralee

The attraction with The Cairn Hotel was the price. It was just £55 for a standard double bedroom and a breakfast!
The hotel is located a few minutes’ walk from the centre of Harrogate with ample parking.
Our room was nicely decorated and had a fantastic power shower, separate bath and the all important tea and coffee making facilities. The view out of the window wasn't the best as there was some construction work going on below but we were on the third floor.
The room was clean and well presented. The television had a good picture although I thought it was a bit small in relation to how far away from the bed it was.
There was an information pack with activities and days out in the area. We visited a nearby restaurant called The Courtyard which, although a tad pricey was wonderful.
Breakfast the next morning was all you can eat and every breakfast item imaginable was available. The food was very tasty and the waiters brought out hot buttered toast as and when. There is an option to have breakfast served in bed but it costs a little extra.
The common areas of the hotel were a little 'tired' and in need of a good refurbishment but the rooms themselves seemed fine. The staff were very friendly, going out of their way to assist you. I'd wanted some dessert just after the restaurant had closed and the barman offered me cheesecake at a reduced price.
The only drawback was at 24 yrs old, we seemed to be the youngest couple there. There were a lot of older people staying at the hotel. There was even some kind of dance class for the over 60s. This would be perfect for the older generation. We didn't mind as we just wanted to stay at the hotel and explore Harrogate.
I'd definitely stay here again as it's cheap and cheerful.
