Marriott Leicester Reviews

Jan 2007, Mrs G Baker

Just back from a three day stay at this hotel. It is ultra modern and stylish, but was very disappointed with their services during my stay. They failed to inform me on check in, that breakfast finished one hour earlier (due to the holidays), so I missed it the first... more

Exceptional service
An impressive new hotel with high levels of customer care by the very friendly and efficient hotel staff. On arrival at the hotel, I discovered that I had lost my debit card and they went out of their way to help me and resolve the problems this situation left me with. The bedrooms are quiet, spacious and well furnished with very comfortable beds and well equipped bathrooms. I used room service for my dinner and it was of a good standard and delivered very promptly. The choice at breakfast was plentiful and the waiting staff attentive. Drinks were on the pricey side though - £5.95 for a glass of wine. Highly recommended and won't hesitate to use again.
Comfortable and bog standard
Comfortable Hotel - quiet location. Rooms big and quiet- even though we were next to the lift couldnt hear anything. Staff friendly especially the bar manager on the night shift. He couldnt sell us cocktails fast enough! Pricey though. Was staying there on business so didnt matter. Breakfast was standard fair and okay. Bit far out of town if you want to go out for a drink in the evening but the taxi was cheap £8.
Superb, almost perfect!
I stayed at the Marriot Hotel in Leicester in early March 2007 for business purposes. The actual hotel is easy to find, easily spotted from the road. Parking was plentiful, although you have to pay for the priviledge. The actual hotel itself is very shiney and new; it has a well lit, roomy reception, and friendly, efficent staff. The room itself was fabulous - huge, clean, well furnished and everything working! The flat screen TV catered for satellite and terrestial, and there was a good selection of films for hire. Internet access was available from the room, but at £15 for 24 access I thought this very expensive. Room service was excellent, and the food very good - I recommend the Club sandwich - on the whole, good value. I made use of the hotel facilities, notably the swimming pool, which was well kept, although a little small. Breakfast was included in the price, and was excellent. This is a superb, well kept new hotel, and if you are staying in the Leicester area I strongly recommend it.
Comfortable Hotel
Stayed at the Marriott New Years Eve. Check in was a breeze and we were quickly in our executive room - great corner position with panoramic view. Room good in all respects - internet connection at £15.00 I thought was a bit too expensive. Beds particularly comfortable and Flat Screen TV excellent. Beware not to touch anything in the minibar - a microswitch instantly charges your account. Nice leisure centre and pool and use of the Exec Lounge is nice although the coffee mc had run out of milk. Lunch in the atrium very pleasant. Had pre-booked foam pillows on their e-concierge service but they were not in the room - it took 3 phone calls and over an hour to do anything about it. Some of the staff great others not so friendly but of course it was a busy day for them.
Fantastic Bed !
Stayed just one night but would definetly recommend this hotel. Very friendly staff and the room was extremely clean and quiet. Bed was huge with loads of soft pillows. Also you can walk acrossthe road to a large retail park with all the usual chain of shops and a huge M & S.
An excellent place to stay
I know I shouldn't start a review with a series of negative comments but I think it would be helpful to get them out the way and say that this hotel is situated in a business park on the outskirts of the city centre. That aside, I should point out that it is conveniently situated for the M1 and M69 motorways and offers the level of customer service which will give the pretencious Holiday Inn and the fading Jarvis Hotel a very good run for their money. This hotel is amazing in terms of being spacious and comfortable. The teething problems referred to in an earlier review seemed to have been very much resolved and the staff are both attentive and courteous. The food is tasty and the ambiance of the restaurant is just right. Staff are knowledgeable about the food and the wines. Breakfast is wholesome and the food is tasty and reasonably priced. I am becoming quite a convert to the Marriott hotels. The room was large and the beds......well how do they make their beds so comfortable and where do they buy their pillows? The bathroom is not massive but the shower is powerful and the bath doesn't take an age to fill. The furnishings are well considered and as I mused on the idea of putting the curtains on the inside and the net curtains on the outside, I realised how very well thought out this whole concept really is. The staff were most helpful and really look as though they enjoy their work. Their professional and courteous manner is a credit to the group since this is exatly the same as I experienced at the hotel in Marble Arch. Enough said and I have no hesitatation in recommending this place for business or leisure. Remember that the downside of being situated outside the city centre is a great advantage at 2 o clock in the morning when the drunken masses are roaming the streets.
A fantastic hotel
We stayed this weekend at the Leicester Marriott with our two young children. The hotel was way above our expectations. The rooms were clean and generously sized, the staff were amazingly friendly and the food was absolutely delicious. We will definitely return next time we are in the area.
very good experience
We stayed for two nights this weekend, 2 adults and 3 children in two interconnecting rooms, breakfast included. We were very impressed with the ambience, the friendliness of the staff and the lovely rooms- spacious, good facilities, very comfortable beds. Breakfast had a huge range, well presented, lots of healthy options and plenty of everything. Only downside is leisure failities were basic- small pool, sauna and steam room (children over 8 allowed) and no jacuzzi. Small gym I think too but didn't take much heed as I wasn't planning to use it. Only a minor gripe! Best of all, we were charged a better rate than I had booked online- £228 total instead of the expected £360. Went away feeling very pleased!! We would definitely stay there again.
Best Sleep Ever...
I had been staying at the Holiday Inn Leicester for 3 weeks, when I decided enough was enough and moved to the Marriot. Heaven! Offer of assistance with luggage as soon as I stepped out of the cab. No problem at check in, then off to the room. Kingsize room with the most comfortable bed ever. After 3 weeks of interrupted sleep, this was bliss. Try sitting watching TV on a marriott bed without falling alseep!!! Room was a really good size, large desk area, nice sitting area, and although the window didn't open, the air conditioning worked perfectly. Bathroom was spotless. Great shower, lots of big fluffy towels, and nice toiletries. Food at this hotel is lovely. The restaurant has a buffet, and an a la carte menu, which is small, but the food tastes delicious, and the presentation is perfect. The cafe area again has a small menu, burgers, salad etc, but again, no complaints. Breakfast buffet has everything you could ask for, from full english, to waffles with maple syrup, porridge and innocent smoothies. Hotel pool was clean and warm, and quiet. All you need to take is your costume. Towels, shower gel, hairdryers, bag to carry wet costume etc are all supplied. Didn't use the gym so can't comment. Only down side is the location which is a cab ride from the city centre. However, I had the choice between ok city centre hotel, and taxi ride, but great hotel. Marriott wins hands down. All in all, I wouldn't hesitate in returning to this hotel.
Brand new hotel which is just ok
The hotel is located in a business park close to the M1 motorway and is quite isolated. The hotel has only been open a few weeks and the staff are clearly not yet up to speed with the smooth running of a 4 star hotel . On checking in, once the check -in staff had finished chatting, we received a warm greeting. There was a problem with getting my credit card processed but eventually received keys to the room. When we arrived at the room the keys did not work and the room was overlooking the interior atrium and not as I had requested - with an exterior view. As there was no phone in the hallway , we had to walk back to reception (with bags as there was no offer of assistance with baggage offered). We were given a new room with keys which worked this time, but I was annoyed that the room was by the lifts, as it turned out though, we did not encounter any additional noise. The room was nice, with the new Marriott bed (very comfortable) and a smart flat-screen TV but very dusty. It was a smoking room (as booked) and despite being new, I was surprised that it had a very strong smell of tobacco - the windows did not open - why do they design windows this way? The bathroom was very small and clean but reminded me of a Holiday Inn Express - very basic. The buffet breakfast was included in our weekend rate (only £68) and was very good , a great selection of hot and cold items. The hotel has a nice pool and decent gym, which is small but with adequate equipment. The stay was ok and good value for what we paid but I would only rate this hotel as a 3 star.
