Highly recommended
I have just returned from a fantastic weekend break at The Royal Clifton. Our room was spacious spotless and had a wonderful seafront view. The facilities were fantastic. Breakfast was hot and delicious with plenty of choice. Best of all were the staff, very friendly and efficient. I could not fault this hotel.
never again
I read the reviews for this hotel but still decided to book in this hotel while visiting Southport. How I wish I had listened to the what most of the writers had said. The hotel was so run down. The windows in our room were crumbling and so dirty inside and out we could hardly see through them, the room smelt of cigerette smoke as did the bed clothes. The towel rail in the bathroom was hanging off the wall and the bathroom suite looked like something put up in a cheap B and B not in what was supposed to be one of the best hotels in Southport.
Save Your Money
I wonder if anyone from Best Western read the reviews of this hotel. Spent one very uncomfortable night there. The room was dirty, the pillows and mattress were so old it was impossible to have a good night's sleep. The dining room was crowded with tables and the breakfast was stone cold. Don't waste your money there, find another hotel.
Mixed Review
Nice Spacious sitting area for guests. Bedrooms - could do with replacing windows to prevent draughts. Squeaky floor boards particularly on ground floor. Staff did not engage in conversation to make guests feel welcome. Parking facilities quite good because if the hotel car park is busy on return in the evening you can park out on the street. Booked hotel through active hotels, unfortunately was room only, and to buy breakfast was over £7 per person. Used nearby Morrisons and Wetherspoons instead at just over £2 per... more
ok but dirty bathroom!
We have just returned from staying at this hotel for 4 nights. All public rooms were lovely, fantastic meals in the restaurant with good service, plus a singing Irish head waiter! The bedroom was of a good standard but we had to scrub the bath and toilet before we could use it !!!
Our third enjoyable stay at the Royal Clifton
This is our third family visit to the Royal Clifton Hotel in the past four years. All the rooms we have stayed in have been clean, pleasant and spacious. The Hotel has a very good restaurant and excellent leisure facilities for all the family.
A PLEASANT STAY AT A PLEASANT HOTEL
I booked 8 rooms with the Royal Clifton at the end of September. I found the rooms pleasant but a little tired as was parts or the Hotel. However i could see that work had and was ongoing to bring this beautifull old hotel back to its former glory. The food was excellent and the staff that we came in contact with were outstanding.I would certainly stay again.
Not so Royal Clifton!!
If you are paying around £100 and expecting luxury- you are going to be disappointed!! Room was dirty, dusty and dank. The wallpaper was peeling, the bed was sagging and furniture was damaged. We had a lovely view of a window ledge that hadn't been painted for about thirty years, and the stench pipe from somebody elses toilet was nicely at eye and nose level. The bedspreads were soiled, and had cigarette burns. All the public areas were shabby and badly in need of some TLC. Can't review the restaurants- I daren't go in... more
Dreadful! Don't bother!
Nearly the worst hotel I've ever stayed in, beaten only by the Quality hotel in Hull. Looks fine on their website photo's but the place is a dump. Shabby decor, dingy stale smelling rooms and corridors. Bed sheets stained and holed. Pigeons thump around in the atic at all hours. Staff on the whole rude and useless. Food appaling and restaurant floor filthy - in no way worth the £100 per night charged. When I stayed there was a Premier lodge being built across the road - stay there instead!
AWFUL
URGH!! - Don’t bother. Hired 3 rooms – all as awful as each other and dirty, restaurant meal awful & cold, staff awful & rude, service awful & slow, corridors awful & stank of stale smoke!! Just don’t bother staying here, they dont deserve your pennies.
