Very enjoyable experience
I attended a wedding locally and stayed in this hotel the night prior. The service from the staff was very helpful, especially the receptionist working the late shift on the 9th June, can't quite remember her name but she very kindly found me directions to the wedding venue without hesitation! The room was very comfortable, quiet and clean with great use of airconditioning. I will definately recommend this hotel to friends and family when in the area again! Thank you for a lovely stay.
Exceeded my expectation
I have visited and dined at this hotel a number of times with very positive experience. I’ve had a lot of practice using hotels worldwide for business and pleasure, and my expectations here were in line with this hotel's 3-star ranking. While it is a nice country hotel with beautiful façade and grounds, what stood out for me were the little things that exceeded my expectation. Be it the brochures, the well presented meals, a bar that still has free pouring (versus the measured shot dispensers.) These are the little things that... more
Serious need of a refurb
I can only assume that they have 2 tiers of hotel room here. I was offered a choice of 2 double rooms, one was £130, one was £65. So I booked the cheapest. The room was long and narrow, the carpet old and manky, some of the pug sockets didn't work, the double bed was pretty small and had sheets and blankets, which I hate. The bathroom was also carpeted, with an unpleasant stain directly in front of the toilet, the bath was chipped, wall tiles cracked and the shower dribbled like an elderly relative that had fallen asleep in... more
very good value
One night stay on a Wednesday night; probably not enough going on for a 'leisure' stay but certainly everything I needed for a business stop-over, including free wireless access. Excellent value at £65, given that Marriot, Hilton etc asking £100 for a room the same night.
2nd time in town...much nicer this time
This was only my second venuture into Maidstone and after my previous visit I was not relishing the prospect. However, this time around I arrived and checked in with no dramas and after a long journey managed to get a decent shower (never guaranteed in any hotel in my experience!). Wireless in the room was also welcome surprise. Waited at the Bar for a while before any service but once sat down in the restaurant there was noticably more attention to detail. The maitre d' was particularly impressive. No complaints either with the... more
Never Again - Disgusting
Really unimpressed!! We arrived, there was a wedding going on with the usual "far too loud" tacky disco, but that was ok because the receptionist had Invicta radio blasting out behind reception to clash with the disco! So we eventually walk down the manky corridors to the equally manky room, which was smaller than the usual toilet! The bed was apparently a "double bed", well my girlfriend and I deliberated on this fact for a while because it could be a single or a double, but we decided that it was probably just large enough to warrant... more
Shambles
This is quite possibly the worst hotel we have ever stayed in. Stayed here overnight on the 23rd of August and had a less than satisfactory experience. The hotel which was apparently "newly renovated" looks fine when you arrive. The lounge and bar are pleasant enough but it's when you get to your room that the horror begins. They must have missed our room (403)when they were renovating because it was horrible. The bathroom was the worst part of the whole experience. The bath was filthy both inside and around. The taps and shower head... more
EXCELLENT BEST IN MAIDSTONE
Great food Great service, Great room, Great value, 100% great hotel Need I say more! Thanks Russell hotel for an excellent stay!
Very Nice .... just watch for wet paint.
I stayed at the Russell on Business and found it to be of a generally quite high standard. The gardens were lovely as were the reception area and function rooms, even the resturant was of a high visual standard. My only issue is that on my stay the hotel was literally dripping with wet paint I even got it on my clothes trying to find my way back to my room in a dark corridor....I do however think that my timing was just unfortunate and that this was continuing work on the decor and general high standards of this hotel. The... more
Perfect for all occasions
I have visited the Russell Hotel on two separate occasions. The first time I visited the hotel it was undergoing a substantial face lift but the location and staff ensured that I had an extremely comfortable stay. Having enjoyed my first stay I didn't hesitate to use the Russell hotel on my next business trip to Kent in January 2004. Access from the M25 is first class and I was there in good time. The results of the aforementioned refurbishment are outstanding and the entrance is now extremely opulent. I got checked in and was equally... more
