We went to Kransjka Gora for our first skiing holiday and we loved it! The resort is beautiful - the scenery is just amazing. It snowed nearly all the time we were there but we had a couple of days of sunshine as well - perfect conditions for us. The atmosphere is relaxed... more

Slendid setting
The Hotel Lek is in a slendid setting, you walk out of the hotel to the most beautiful views. We upgraded to a balcony room which was fabulous. It was newly kitted out and very spacious with a flat screen TV. The food was fine, had a nice plentiful breakfast of fruit, yogurt cereal then freshley cooked eggs. The salad bar in the evening was nice and plenty of choice for the main course, the sweets where just cakes. The hotel pool is very nice and just what you need after a day walking. There are tennis courts next door and a nice childrens playground with a little cafe. Walked most days, which was wonderful. Went on a tour of the Julian Alps which are breathtaking and also had a day in the capital, Ljubuana. Just booking to go back this year, going to try another resort this time. Will definately have a trip to Ljubuana again and may visit Bled although after passing through it is more touristy and not really in the montains.
Beautiful scenery
We stayed in this hotel for a 4 night break, the room was an attic conversion, suitable for kids only, the heating was unbelievable and it could not be altered or controlled in anyway. it felt like we were in sauna all the time. The bathroom was tiny you would either hit your arm of the shower doors( which did not slide across properly either) or the main bathroom door.On funnier note as previously stated the room was tiny ,but across the corridor, we came across a lovely couple with a HUGE husky dog in their room, goodness knows were they all slept. On a more serious note we hired a car to tour across the borders to Italy and Austria, and views were outstanding, but and it is BIG BUT, i cannot stress enough the dangers of driving on the wrong side of the road in bad weather, the locals constanly hasseled us because we did drive fast enough, but we kept to the speed limit. Furthermmore the roads at most times were not wide enough to allow 2 cars to pass let alone lorries etc, the most freighting part of this experience was that as you climb the roads thru the mountains sometimes up to over 1582 metres there are little or no crash bariers at times I thought we would meet our maker driving on these roads, so if you ntend to drive please please take extreme care and caution, I would have reservation driving on these roads in summer let alone winter. Back to the hotel we met some very nice people in here but I would only rate it as 3 star at most.
Excelent Stay
Just got back from one weeks stay starting 03/02/07. We could not fault this hotel at all; the staff are very friendly, the rooms are clean and comfortable and hotel facilities are great. We stayed in the loft rooms that were very cosy. The food is fine and there are different dishes served each night. Ignore the negative comments; they are probably just fussy eaters. The pool area is good and the jacuzzi is just heaven after a hard days skiing. The hotel is about a 10 min walk in ski boots, 5 mins in normal footwear to the lifts. We hired ski lockers at the Intersport Bernik opposite lift 5 which only cost 20 Euros for the week; worth every cent. The ski schools and instructors are brilliant and the slopes are ideal for beginners and intermediates. If you have not booked your ski lessons or equipment hire then do it locally as we found it to be a bit cheaper. Overall it was one of the nicest resorts I have visited in Europe. Everything is so low in price you will find it hard to spend money!
wouldn't go back
stayed at the Hotel Lek for 1 week. We upgraded our room to twin room with balcony. we got put right nextdoor to reception. Not the best of places as you get every one walking past your door. Did ask to be moved but no rooms available. The room was clean, and a reasonable size though. Service. the maid service was very good. Reception i found to be unhelpful. Food. Breakfast ok Dinner. well the salad bar was nice. Apart from that the main dishes were bland, tedious, boring, and so on. We were not the only ones that thought this. as the week went on the restaurant got emptier in the evenings as people were eating out.
Nice hotel in a quiet resort
My husband and I have just returned from a week at Hotel Lek. This is our second year holidaying at the Lek and we were happy to see that the hotel still lived up to the positive experience we had last year. Having stayed in a loft room last time, we decided to pay a few euros extra per night to upgrade our room and we were delighted with what we got. Room 122 on the first floor was a quiet end room, small entrance way with wardrobe and large bathroom, excellent water pressure as well. The bedroom was large with a flat screen TV and lovely balcony overlooking the front of the hotel. Housekeeping were efficient and prompt, with free bathrobes and slippers for our use. The food was lovely with many choices for breakfast, really setting you up for a day on the slopes. Great omelette man as well. Evening meals were a bit strange, but the salad bar was good and the main courses were nice, if sometimes unusual. The dessert cakes were also lovely. The hotel also has a nice and usually quiet bar downstairs, reasonably priced and the staff are always pleasant, polite and understanding. The bar also has a small non smoking area. We also made use of the pool area, which was perfect, especially the smaller pool with water jets to ease tired muscles. Whilst the hotel is on the edge of Kranjska Gora, it is a small town and walking to the slopes or the town centre is only a couple of minutes. There is a ski room downstairs in the hotel, but for convenience we used the ski room at the Intersport by the slopes for about 20 euros for the week, and the locker fitted both snowboards, boots and helmets adequately. Yes, there was very little snow, but we still managed to have a great time and get a lot done. The ski school is also good, and the resort is perfect for beginners. For a trip away from Kranjska I would recommend spending the afternoon in Ljubljana, the capital city, which is about an hour away and very pretty. If we return to Kranjska next year we will be staying again at the Lek. A pleasant, small hotel, good standards and reasonably priced.
Romantic Alpline Hotel?
My boyfriend and I have just returned from a stay at this hotel. We travelled with First Choice on a snow sports holiday (however no snow and have made use of runs with artificial snow on them). After a three hour transfer we arrived at our hotel after dinner had finished being served, so we were provided with a selection of cold meats, cheese, bread etc, which was a nice touch. When I looked through the travel brochure, this hotel appealed because it looked Alpine Chalet picture perfect, to a degree it was. However it was a little walk from the slopes, but we didn't find this a major issue. Our room was one of the loft rooms, it was comfortable and clean. My one complaint was the lack of safe deposit box, by the end of the week we felt like we had harrased the staff no end to put things in and take things out the safe in reception. Staff on reception were generally helpful, apart from on our arrival when the lady on reception seemed very keen to rush us through check in, and didn't even indicate how to get to our room! The faciltiies in the hotel were good, ski lockers down stairs, a bar with fair prices, sauna, swimming pool etc. In the lobby free internet access can be found, but you have to be quick to get to the computer before the kids. Food, breakfast was the same everyday, with a selection of cereals, bread, fruit, dried fruit, yoghurt and sausage, bacon, eggs and even the use of a chef to make a fried egg or omlette for you. One thing I didn't come across was a toaster, or a decent cup of coffee in the morning, but on the whole it wasn't a bad way to start the morning. Evening meals were eye opening, with some very interesting combinations (deep fried cauliflower?), and a lack of warmth to the food....... This was really the only area that let our stay down, as both my boyfriend and I had stomach trouble. All in all, our stay was comfortable, we met some lovely people and made the most of our first snow sports holiday. But if I were to return to this resort I think I would choose a hotel more central to the slopes!
Wow, what a view!
We stayed at this hotel, as part of a Crystal Holidays package, in July of this year. We were very happy with what we got, having had no idea what hotels in Slovenia would be like. Our room was a comfortable twin on the second floor. We only had sky-light style windows, but the view of the mountains was a delight at any time of the day. There was no lift up to our floor which could be a problem for older or less mobile guests. We made friends with a couple who had a superior room on the first floor( and they did have a lift )and it seemed to us that their extra £3 per night each was probably worth it. They had a mini bar, flat screen T.V and a balcony, BUT I'd have to say their view wasn't as good as ours. We stayed on a half board basis. The food was of a good standard and there were several choices of main course at dinner. Breakfast had everything that anyone could want. The staff seemed a little disorganised in the dining room, but were friendly and helpful throughout. Our bar bill for the week was probably half what we would have paid in neighbouring Italy or Austria. The pool complex at the hotel was lovely and we used it nearly every day. The nearby village of Kranjska Gora was delightful and not at all commercialised. It did tend to 'die' at about 11pm each night, but this suited us. Slovenia is stunningly beautiful--a bit like Switzerland and Austria at about a third of the price. The people are friendly and most can speak English. Driving is easy and even the petrol is cheaper than inthe UK. We would definitely hope to go back to Slovenia one day, but given it's such a big world, and there's so much to see, it might not be for a while yet!
Hotel Lek
We stayed at the Hotel Lek on a bed and breakfast basis, and booked it direct. The hotel is rated as 4 star in all the brochures but it has a tired look about it. It is located on the road leading to the Vrsic pass a little out of the centre of the village but within easy walking distance. The facilities were good; free internet access, swimming pool, tennis courts etc. We did have problems using the dining room, being only b&b we had to request a table every morning as they claimed the dining room was full and therefore we could not have an allocated table. This did get frustrating and we were n't made to feel very welcome. Another word of warning if you get allocated a room at the front of the hotel, in the summer the rooms get very hot as there is no air conditioning, so leaving the door open at night is essential and whilst the view of the Julian Alps is stunning you may get woken up at 6.30am every morning by the cleaners hoovering the outside bar area or the airport coaches picking up departing guests at 3.45am on a Saturday!
Lovely hotel
Lovely hotel. We stayed in the basic rooms which we did have doubts about, but they were quite comfortable and very clean. Tv had a number of english stations too. Staff were very friendly, meals good, pool area very good, and nice to go in the bubbly pools after a hard days walking. Glad we stayed in Kranjska Gora, it was beautiful. Definately reccomend this hotel.
Hotel Lec - More style than you might expect
We went skiing in Kranjska Gora and stayed at the Hotel Lec at the peak time. The hotel is located a short walk from the slops though we often took the car to carry all the gear since there was plenty of room to park. It looks out onto beautiful mountains and they amusingly project their logo onto the rock face opposite the Hotel. The Hotel is very swish and modern. We stayed in superior rooms which were effectively suites with a nice quality flat screen TV good satellite selection and very smart furniture. The staff were generally very efficient, courteous and helpful rather than warm and friendly but that is not to be sniffed at. The pool and sauna areas were very good with a good size swimming pool and a really big hot pool with lots of bubbly features as well as a sperate Jacuzzi. The Sauna area is excellent though err very European no swimming costume allowed! I particularly enjoyed the plunge bucket which is outside in the snow!! The food was OK with eggs and bacon cooked to order for breakfast and very good freshly made soup on the dinner buffet. Overall good value, modern and stylish. Perhaps not what you expect from the former Eastern Block but times have clearly changed in Slovenia.
