Poor
I have seen there are some good reviews here but the only thing that makes this hotel work are the staff who did thier best. The hotel is tired, difficult parking followed by a tiny out of date knackered out lift that takes ages. By the time I made it to the second room (1st was unacceptable) I was almost as worn out as the hotel. The room was tiny, poorly finished and the bathroom had one small shelf so no space for anything. The shower was a dribble and I could not actually get warm. The window had no second layer and rattled... more
Good Value
We have just arrived home from 2 nights at the hotel, although it is quite oldie worldly it is very charming, the staff are very helpful and friendly. We had room service one evening and it arrived quickly and we also had breakfast one morning and again it was nice and freshly cooked. We stayed in Room 487 and although it is a little trek from the lift this just adds to the overall charm, the floor in the room has quite a slope to it but it was very clean and had everything you would need i.e kettle (including tea coffee, biscuits etc),... more
Chintzy-chintzy cheeriness!
I have just stayed here for a four day short break. We just turned up and asked for two single rooms and were offered a £10 discount as we were staying four nights. The hotel is several town houses run together and so has some very tiny lifts but many staircases. The rooms really were singles but very clean and like the rest of the public areas we saw newly decorated- in a very traditional chintzy hotel style. The room and bathroom were very clean and the bed comfortable. tea and coffee requisites were replenished everyday. I didn't... more
Clean but leaves a lot to be desired
Stayed one night (short notice) in early September 2006. Room was definitely 2*, but it met our requirements (4 beds). It was clean and functional, although OLD and worn. Food was terrible, although breakfast was OK. Location is good, and sea view is nice. Hotel in need of much renovation. Lift was smallest ever. Wifi unusable (if you care?).
Lovely Hotel
I booked my mother and my sister/her husband here for a weekend. They loved it, and we all had a pleasant evening meal on the first night, with attentive and good service. I looked at it first (i live locally) as mum is poorly mobile - ramp to hotel and lift (small but big enough). The receptionist could not have been more helpful and pleasant and showed us similar rooms, and ensured first floor and also adjacent rooms for mum and sis. The whole stay was a delight for my mother and she can't wait to return. The views are lovely over the... more
Not bad, but not again.
My Husband and I stayed at this Hotel, before setting off on our Wedding in Austria. We paid about £75.00 for a room. The hotel was easy to find, but parking could have been a problem, luckily my husband found a spot on the road, there are spaces there but I think this is not private parking, so id imagine if we had turned up on a busy shopping day, we would never had found a space. We had our bikes on the back so this it also a worry that we had no private car parking We checked in nice and easy, and the receptionist was friendly... more
Very good, but rooms need air con.
Location: right on the sea front, with fantastic views. 10-15 minutes walk to town centre. Rooms: very large, clean and with a good bathroom. Only problem- it was swelteringly hot, even at night with the window open & the provided fan on! We were on the 4th floor. Service: helpful & efficient. Breakfast: good, if pricey. Manic waiter service. Overall a good traditional seaside hotel.
A mixed bag!
My son and I decided to stay at the Clifton Hotel in Folkestone before heading off to drive to Austria. It's a Victorian building but its location is excellent, overlooking the Channel, and is very handy for the main shops in the town. There is, however, a major parking problem. We stuck our car on double yellow lines about 100 yards from the hotel while we checked in. We then went round the block and luckily found a space nearer (and legal!) so that lugging in the cases was less of a struggle. The receptionist seemed rather serious... more
Brilliant location
A lovely Hotel with excellent service and ambiance. The bedroom we occupied overlooked the Channel and had lovely furnishings and was very comfortable. A great choice of Hotel in a superb location, ideal for exploring the Kent coast, and a quick hop over to France for the day.
Fantastic service - great Victorian hotel!
I hardly ever write in like this but just had to say what a great stay I had at the Clifton Hotel in Folkestone. The building itself is a classic Victorian building right on the cliff-tops - you can easily see France on a clear day. The bedroom I had was beautifully decorated and was really spacious and light - with great views of the sea. The en-suite too was really good. The restaurant food was great - with a proper waiter service even for breakfast. Dinner was a la carte and very nice too. Price-wise it was excellent... more
