Very clean, a little worn, excellent service
The Pilgrim's Inn is an excellent location. The cathedral is a 5 minute walk and you're right in the old town. The newer part of town is nearer the train station and is a 15-20 minute walk. The room is a reasonable size with an ensuite bathroom, TV, closet, desk and hospitality tray. The service was excellent and very friendly. The resturant has good food at a reasonable price. The stairs up from the reception area are narrow and steep so it might not be suitable for small children or any one with difficulty walking. Our room was very clean although a little worn. I would stay here again.
Good, again.
This was my second stay at this hotel and I very much enjoyed it again. The rooms are, well, tiny but cozy and more than adequate for our needs. The location is excellent and the staff are very pleasant and helpful. The breakfast is fine and served in a nice space. Fine value for price.
Not very good really
Stayed one night on the way to France. We enjoyed Canterbury (never been there before, beautiful place), but the Pilgrims was a bit of let down. The room was tiny, the bathroom even tinier, there was an overpowering smell of disinfectant, and the fixtures and fittings just felt cheap. On the plus side, the staff were fine, breakfast was OK (rushed, but that was our fault, ferry to catch at 9am) and the location is good. I wouldn't stay there again though.
Great stay
My husband and I and our 18 month old daughter spent 4 nights at Pilgrims earlier this month and thoroughly enjoyed it. Our room was very clean, although quite warm, and the staff extremely helpful and friendly. Food was fantastic although the bar lacked atmosphere. GREAT location. We would definately stay here again.
Size does matter
I was impressed by other reviews of this hotel so booked a night there whilst on business. I had a single room which was very small with a tiny bathroom. The decor was fresh but the room was very cell like. The floorboards everywhere squeak and the firedoor in corridor kept slamming shut. The room was like an oven although I could not find the heat source. Luckily there was a plug in fan which I kept on all night. There was no point opening the window as there was hot, smelly air coming from the kitchen ventilator shaft. However the staff are polite and helpful. They could not be faulted. Breakfast was good too. The answer is to book a double room, which looks good from the website photos, and to bypass the single ones.
Great value for the price
We spent a three day weekend at the Canterbury Hotel. It is centrally located and a short walk from either train station. The rooms are small but neat and the staff very friendly and helpful when needed while unobtrusive when not needed. We would stay there again.
Close to city center
We booked the "family" room, which accomodates four adults. It's split into two rooms on the top of the building, which is quite old but still charming. The rooms shared a bathroom. Note: NO SHOWER in this bath! That was a disappointment, as we were not told that in the info prior to booking. Otherwise, the hotel is ideal for exploring Canterbury, very close to where you want to be as a visitor. the staff were very helpful and breakfast was cooked to order and very nice as well. As with many hotel rooms in the UK, the room(s) was not large but adequate.
Great Location!
The location of this hotel is excellent with a 30s walk onto the main street of Canterbury - a wholely pedestrianised area. We paid extra for the 4 poster bed and it probably wasnt worth it as it dominated a small room and the canopy blocked out light for reading (!). This room also only has a bath and no shower, although there was plenty of very hot water. A full cooked breakfast was quick although the plates were cold each day - a pet hate..., but the staff were extremely friendly. While we were in Canterbury we took the ghost tour - 90 mins of fun but dont expect to learn too much (Edinborough and Lincoln tours were definately better), and were surprised at having to pay £4.50 for entry to the cathedral close. Our rating on this hotel reflects a good clean room, OK food and an excelent location.
Joining in at The Pilgrims
We stayed in the Pilgrims Hotel in Mid October, during the festival. The staff were wonderful and very friendly. The hotel is in a great position, central for the town and yet quietly tucked into a side street. The rooms were good and bar service / meals were excellent. I cannot praise reception enough, helpful, diligent, kind and with a wonderful sense of humour throughout our stay. We will be back, again, and again.
Absolutely wonderful!
The staff of the Pilgrim's Hotel is friendly, warm and accomodating. Our room (the 2-room family suite on the top floor) was clean, cozy, and quiet. The complimentary breakfast was tasty and generous. The hotel is located close to the main attractions and within a 5 minute walk of the train station. All in all we had a delightful stay and will definitely return again!
