" Great Hotel Great Location "

Vil La Romana is a lovely hotel only 5 mins walk from the beach in Salou. We had 2 double rooms between 4 people. One of our rooms was on the corner so much bigger than the other. But both were a good size, big single beds (I would say half way between a single and a double). The hotel over all was of a very good aesthetic standard - it was in very good condition, looked nice, was well maintained, clean not in a shabby state like many hotels. The pool area was lovely, again great size, plenty of beds although you get the usual losers up at the crack of dawn to get their spaces. Much better to go to the lovely beach. Food was good although repetative so by the end of the holiday I was desperate for something other than salad, rice and various pastas. Breakfasts were great - had something of everything. Downsides - if you have a room at the front of the hotel there is another hotel in very close proximity and their entertainment goes on quite late sometimes until 1am. One night it was karaoke and the sound was hideous with a bunch of shreaking banshies wailing away. Also you could tell our room had been smoked in and had an ingrained smell of cigarattes when you walked through the door. Also drinks and snacks at the hotel are hideously overpriced - partly thanks to the weakend value of the £ - but you will pay £3.50 for a bagette at the pool bar and around £5 for a large beer. The beach is also really expensive if you hire a sunbed (£6) or a parasol (£5). The hotel shop is also VERY overpriced - a box of 10 tampons cost me £7!!!!!!!! Over all though and very nice hotel and I would recommend it.

Advice: Very expensive partly due to UK economy - so go full board to save yourself some dosh!

" Salou  "

Went to Salou on 7th of July 2008. Literally stepped off the plane and it started raining little spittles. We were thinking to ourselves oh no whats gonna happen if the weathers like this for the whole 2weeks but our rep matt said the weather is brilliant throughout the day. Rooms were cleaned everyday and maids were nice but only spoke spanish. Food was okay but we ate out last 2 days at mcdonalds. My two kids aged 12 and 7 loved it, there was everything for them to do. Port Aventurea is a great experience 10-15 mins walk away. My advice would be go at night time as its too crowded during the day and because its hot you get really tired. Robin Hood pub is great my husband and the two kids went during the day to watch the football and the food is lovely. Beach is clean. Very crowded though. Theres loads of shops if you walk down to the beach and if you turn right its the more expensive shops and if you turn left its the little shops selling cheap stuff. Matt and Ali were really helpful and played with all the kids, the entertainers were also okay but we didnt stay in the hotel much at night, and by the way buy your passes before going away they are much cheaper. Overall this was a great holiday and i would probably revisit the Villa Romana again.

Advice: Go during summer.

" Vil.la Romana Hotel Salou, Spain  "

I had a really really great time on holiday. i stayed at the Villa Ronamana hotel, the hotel was very acommodating they have all the facititles you need and accessible for wheel chairs and pushchairs. when you first enter the hotel there is a very friendly security gaurd that says hi and greets you in this way each time he sees you even asking you how you are doing and what you have been up to that day. The hotel has an indoor and outdoor pool although the pools are non heated they are a good size and clean. my room had a fridge and bath so i was able to relax in the evening and keep by 9month old babies bottles cool. There is a very large selection of foods in the restaurant and the staff are nice, but i could not help notice on two occassions persistant flies. On day 6 i ended up throwing up. i had food posoning. I had only eaten in the restaurant so there was no doubt where it had come from. i reported it to the recption who where casual about it, although very nice and friendly they did not seen overly concerned, but did report to the manager and take note. The hotel is situated very close to the beach 2 mins walk and loads of shops on the way and along the beach front. I felt safe assured that no one was going to bother you or try and sell you anything. i would defo go back we had a wonderful time. just to add the area is clean, slops on every street making it accessible for wheel chairs and buggies and plently of crossings making it safe to cross.

" Just returned from 1 week stay at... "

Just returned from 1 week stay at Villa Romana. Having stayed there when it first opened in 2002 I was expecting a similar standard if not better. However was very disappointed with the standard and choice of food and also the service from the hotel staff. Breakfast was OK with a good choice, however, lunch and dinner were both very repetitive with a severe lack of vegetarian food and chips with everything! There seemed to be a lack of staff as well, as at times there was one chef trying to make pizza, cook fish and meat and carve! Long waits for pizza and replenishments of any of the foods, plates were not cleared, we ended up with our plates all piled on top of each other at the table! Very few waiters in the evening as well - sometime only 2 or 3 waiters going round you had to stand up to attract their attention. Room cleanliness was poor and very basic, don't expect too much. Our patio doors and mirror was cleaned once the whole time and drinks glasses were left in the rooms. Sometimes they didn't leave clean towels and we had to ask for them. The bedding was very damp, the first night we got there we had to ask for the sofa bed to made up and they made it up with wet sheets! Everything seemed to be on budget here including the staff! When we complained to the Manager, Sebastian, he was very rude and wouldn't accept any criticism. Entertainment was hit and miss. On a plus side the weather was fantastic! Wouldn't return again or recommend - stayed at lots of 4* hotels before in Spain and the Canaries, mostly Riu or Iberostar - Villa Romana not a patch on these.

" just got back from a wonderful week... "

just got back from a wonderful week stay at the hotel vil.la romana. this hotel is perfect for couples and familes alike as there is entertainment provided day and night that caters for both. lets get down to basics with the analysis;
FOOD= excellent variety (even for the pickiest of eaters) all freshly served a prepared before your eyes.
SERVICE=again excellent, maids clean room every day and towel change.
ENTERTAINMENT=good, the entertainment was good but as it is a hotel that caters for a wide range of nationalities, waiting for the description of what is happening in your own language can be a bit boring. But dont let this put u off as POrt Aventura is only a 10 max (with children) 5 max (adults) walk away. (IF U ARE PLANNING TO VISIT THE THEME PARK AND HAVE SEVERAL DAY PASSES THEN I STRONGLY RECOMMEND THAT U VISIT IT AT NIGHT AS IT IS A LOT COOLER AND QUIETER (BEWARE OF THE MOZZIES).
LOCATION=excellent, only a few minutes walk into the busy centre of salou where ther are plenty of english bars, and only a 10 min max walk to the beach which is fabulous (WALK DOWN TO THE FOUNTAIN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FLOOR THE KIDS WILL LOVE IT)

overall the hotel and location is great the only thing that lets the hotel down is that to get a place by the busy pool u will have to be up at least by 7am to get them towels on the sunbeds (GERMANS FOR YA) however one must laugh as when u arrive it clearly states in the welcome pack that the reservation of sunbeds via the use of towels is stricly forbidden (MAYBE SOMEONE SHOULD TELL THEM).

" had a great time with my 6 year old... "

had a great time with my 6 year old grandaugher.hotel was very clean and well looked after the pool was very clean but cold but then that could be because of the time of year but didnt stop my grandaughter from swimming every day. kids club and mini disco was a great hit aswell as the evening entertainment.the hotel is close to both the beach, shops bars and portaventura . it also has an indoor pool and gym. the rooms were very nice and bathrooms were just what you needed although they have hairdryers in the bathroom they are very slow and you have to keep the button pressed in for it to work i took my own and was glad i did but that was the only thing i found that i could fault in the whole hotel on and thats nothing big.will be going back again

" We Have stayed in many hotels up and... "

We Have stayed in many hotels up and down the costas and this hotel was by far the best. The food excellent with good variety well cooked and hot.The room had extra large single beds which were very comfy, rooms kept very clean, staff in all areas very nice. Lots of kiddies there owing to adventure park the one downfall whilst we were there was children running around in foyer, and on the centre piece of lounge, also when cabaret was on, but then the kiddies were on school holiday. Pity tv, was only cnn news in english ,still cannot have it all. This hotel was close though.

" Stayed at the Romana with my partner... "

Stayed at the Romana with my partner and 13 year old girl. Well when we first checked in they gave our room away and we had to stay in the Belverdere which was 1 min away. The young girl Valentino was very good and was gonna upgrade us to full board but we already had it so we had free drinks all week.

We were allocated a room the next day. The location is good about 10 mins to the beach and main strip and about 20 min walk to port adventura. We walked 3 times is was nice and hot so we didn’t mind.

The rooms were very clean and it was quiet at night. The food was really good chef show cooking and the breakfasts are great. Entertainment a bit naff but you can go out to karaoke’s and discos. The pool was a good size to. Always a lifeguard on duty.. Table tennis.. Pool...games room. Internet room all in this hotel...and all in all I would go back to this hotel. Good weather in sept..

" An excellent choice if, like us, you... "

An excellent choice if, like us, you want to base your holiday around Portaventura.

The hotel is less than 15 minutes walk from the park and cost us (a family of 4) over a grand less than the Portaventura hotels would have cost. It's also about 10 minutes to the beach.

The rooms are very comfortable and well-equipped. Our kids had no problems with the sofa-bed, they thought it was great.

The food was good, with plenty of choice for both breakfast and dinner. The nearest supermarket is 5 minutes away when you need to stock up the fridge.

The pool is excellent, if a little crowded. Get there before 9.30 to get a decent sun bed.

The staff were friendly and efficient, although we felt they could have done with a few more staff in the bar and restaurant.

The evening entertainment was poor, and the kids' entertainment was awful, but Salou has so much to offer that it wasn't a problem for us.

Portaventura is fantastic, as is its water park. There are rides and shows for all ages and the nightly Fuerteventura is well worth seeing.

All the rides have height restrictions, and they are very strict with this, but our youngest (who missed out on a few rides by 5cm) still had a wonderful time.

He'll be over the 120cm mark required for a lot of the better rides by July when we're going back.

If you want to get around, public transport is excellent, and Barcelona is about an hour away. The zoo and the Nou Camp are well worth a visit.

All in all, a great part of the world for a family holiday, a very good hotel. Recommended!

" Have stayed in this hotel twice, both... "

Have stayed in this hotel twice, both times Oct mid term (2005 & 2006), with husband and 9/10 year old child.

Food is fantastic, main reason we went back. Location ideal, 10 mins to theme park, 10 mins to town and 15 mins to beach. Staff courteous and helpful particularly restaurant staff.

Have stayed in both Port Aventura hotel and Costa Caribe and this hotel beats them hands down for location, food, even the rooms.

Fridge is free and a good size, pool towels supplied for use in hotel or even on the beach so no need to take them with you. Hotel is very clean and well maintained.

Last year queued a few times for breakfast but as food is so good we didn't mind. Choice in the evening is superb, best hotel food we've ever eaten.

Wine with dinner is very reasonable and bottles come already labelled with room number, so I could drink a bottle of white over 2 nights and husband could drink red.

Salou is lovely, theme park great for all ages and beach/promenade beautiful. Plan to go back this year even if only for a weekend.

" Best hotel I have stayed in. Food 10... "

Best hotel I have stayed in. Food 10 out of ten, staff, location, room, comfort 20 out of ten. What else to say great, spot on, we will be back,

But if you go to port a Ventura, hide the food and drink, they go thro your bags like they are looking for guns, they are not, they want you to spend four times, yes four times the cost of goods outside inside, spoils the day, also be prepared to queue, big style.

They let rides go half full to keep up the queue? Must be to sell the fast pass? Disney ten out of ten, Porta Ventura, three.

" A very nice hotel, could not fault... "

A very nice hotel, could not fault the standard and choice of food, this was one of best selections we have had whilst abroad. The room was average in size, bathroom with power shower over bath, bidet, toilet and sink and was spacious. Had a mini fridge in room which was not locked so you could fill with your own stuff.

We booked for 3, 2 Adults and a 4 year old, and we got 2 large sized single beds, and a sofa bed for Child, which was not really suitable for a child as he got stuck in it a number of times, so ended up sleeping with me. Very disappointed in the children’s entertainment, as it did not exit, this may of been because we where out of season or because we did not book through a tour operator.

The child’s play area consisted of a small slide, climbing frame, 1 slide, 1 sea saw and 1 bobby thing, really small in size for the size of the hotel. There was a room at the end of the bar which had some soft play area and school tables and chairs but was smelly, so you could not stay in there for long. Indoor pool was the only way to entertain child as it was too cold to go in the outdoor pool, which was a very good size and heated.

Very close to Port Aventura which is an excellent day out for all the family (only about a 7 minute walk). But quite a walk into the town centre. All surrounding streets are blocked paved and there are lots of loose ones and missing ones, so be very careful with prams or if you are a bit unsteady. Lots of tree roots which have been paved over and then uprooted paving slabs etc. Beach was clean and nice the stroll along the promenade was nice. Salou is now a non smoking resort which I liked, but not for my smoking husband.

Only about 14 minutes away from Reus Airport which cost £25 euros each way in a taxi.
