Praga 1 hotel was perfect for us. Not far from Wenceslas Square and really clean and large rooms. There was plenty of restaurants near by and everything was within walking distance.
Wenceslas Sq can be an eye opener at night for all the Latino girls and Africa men pestering you for seedy or ugly business so my advice is to walk down the middle of the road if you are en route to somewhere. Trust me. The Old town is the romantic area and I would suggest getting a hotel here for the older couples.
I went with a friend and made the most of everything so just wanted a hotel that was really nice and clean and close as possible to everything. Charles bridge is one not to miss. Get yourself a caricature or portrait as a souvenir! Prague castle... goes without saying. The Golden lane (if I remember the name right) inside the castle grounds contains a few shops.
Don't miss one that contains medieval pottery made the traditional way. I got a wonderful old style wine goblet. The beer is cheap and good. Try if you can to get un-pasteurised pilsner (brewed on site). A Sparta Prague football match is a great day out and extremely cheap. The beer at half time was 0.40 a pint and the tickets less than a couple of pound.
Don't miss the old town square stalls too and maybe you can catch one of the horse driven carriages for memorable tour of Prague. EXCELLENT CITY!!!!!
