Stay somewhere else...maybe to Roebuck Hotel for 1/2 the price?
from Chrisrjcox
We would not advise anyone to stay at this hotel, it is a great Wedding reception, but this is their Business and not as a hotel. The venue is great, however the quality of the rooms both in the House and in the courtyard have a lot to live up to especially for £105 for the courtyard and £150 for the house. The courtyard building itself is very run down, and the rooms are terrible, small, bathrooms are horrible and if you do want to be woken at 4am by the sound of a cockerel. Do not stay here, consider yourself warned. I would have...

Fabulous location, hotel needs some attention still
from EssexBabycat
Attended a wedding here last weekend and had a fantastic time. Wedding was superb as was reception. Staff were always very curteous, food was amazing and hotel was very clean. we stayed in a newly refurbed courtyard room which was very nice, however some of our friends were less fortunate and the rooms which have not yet been updated were shabby. They did receive a discount the following morning so if you're not happy then complain. Overall a great place.
Stunning Wedding and Surroundings, Accomodation Terrible
from ClairenCraigo
I was here at a wedding of very close friends the wedding and the setting was amazing very beautiful, the rooms were awful, dirty floors, very dated, very tiny, watch out for the cockeral who keeps you awake from 4am onwards, not my cup of tea to stay there again or sell it , the price of £105.00 is a disgrace and insult, I#ve seen better in Premier Travel Inns.
Beautiful venue
from Greenman123
We recently attended a wedding at Fanhams Hall, the setting was amazing, one of the most amazing locations i've stayed at. The food was great, was still very hot by the time it reached the table , which in my book is the sign of a great Chef! Our room was in the courtyard, and after reading other comments on here i'm not sure what they're on about! Ok, it's not 5 star standard but the rooms are well equipped and clean. Our room was a reasonable size, clean and had a great view. Nothing to complain about!! I saw my friends...

Good wedding venue - awful accommodation
from behappy99
We attended a wedding of a very close friend and agree that the venue is lovely for such an occassion. The staff were friendly and the food was good. However, a MAJOR disappointment was our room. We had a courtyard double which was uncomfortable and dated. Although not a huge room, this was not the main issue. The bed was extremely uncomfortable, there was no fan provided - and when the window doesn't stay open on a hot summers day, this makes the room even more uncomfortable, the shower was pathetic, the furniture was very dated,...

Engagement Party...
from Pellit
I recently attended my friends Engagement party at Fanhams hall. The hotel is in a fabulous location, the grounds are superb! We were all really taken aback by the surroundings. The venue is perfect for any party or even wedding...I would even return for a quite weekend away. The food was to a high standard (the menu had changed a few days before we arrived). The rooms were immaculate and obviously had recently been refurbed...the bathrooms were amazing, very spacious, we had a massive walk in shower!!! The hotel staff were great the whole...

Best hotel to get hitch at
from SairyD
We got married in May and had our reception at Fanhams. It was the most amazing day. The staff were superb, extremely helpful in the lead up to and on the wedding day (a special thanks to Margaret who helped the proceeding). We couldn't have wished for a better place to get married. The grounds were spectacular and all the guests really loved it. We too were concerned when we read a week before the wedding some of the reviews on the site but I can whole heartedly say that everyone of our guests had a fantastic time and they...

Much improved
from njmkjnmkj
We stayed in one of the newly refurbished courtyard bedrooms and it was very comfortable, clean and views over the hotel courtyard. We had bar snacks in the conservatory bar and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The grounds were beautiful. This is our second time back and it is much improved in all areas of the hotel.
Superb venue, but rooms were like those in a hostel
from Tel-Itasitis
Must state again the venue itself was excellent, but overpriced on food and wine; £38 for a bottle of medium quality Chianti, no way Jose. The accommodation rooms are too small, I had a ‘double’ and with one edge of the bed pushed against a wall I could still touch the room door, the door by the way could not be opened fully as it hit up against the bedside cabinet. Rickety furniture and curtains that did not block out the light did not improve the experience, nor did the fact that my ‘headboard’ was the radiator. I...

Management response from Fanhams
Thank you for the constructive comments with regard to our hotel accommodation. We are currently undergoing a refurbishment programme with our some of our bedrooms in the courtyard. We have already completed 11 rooms and will continue the refurbishment programme over the coming months. This will not disrupt any guests staying at the hotel, but will certainly enhance your stay in the future. Please ask for one of our refurbished rooms when you book and you will not be disappointed.
Our perfect wedding day
from JonBLondon
We had booked Fanhams for our wedding and the trip advisor reviews did concern us. I also had family staying for two nights in the hotel. We wanted a venue with a large number of rooms for everyone to stay which Fanhams has, the rooms are not great, but they're not that bad either. I stayed in two rooms and both were clean but some of the fixtures are out dated. Our wedding reception was everything we ever wanted, the service was excellent and the food tasted great. Zoe, the events co-ordinator ensured all our finest details...

I only stayed at Fanhams for one night (family function) and to be honest it was one night too long as far as the room was concerned. We paid £120 for a family room and were put in the courtyard area. The room was worse than basic and I have seen better at a Travel lodge!... more
