The Lainston House, Englih perfection
After realising we needed a stop-off before heading off to a wedding on the Isle of Wight, we stumbled across Lainston House. Stumbled; because we tried to book in to the Hotel du Vin but it was full. Another long week over and the usual concerns over is it going to be nice or just another over priced British hotel take over as you head in to the Hampshire countryside. Yet all fears were soon lost as we drove up the sweeping drive and turned in to the Hotel's gates - the building and the grouds are stunning and beautifully looked... more
Because you're worth it!
I stayed at this hotel one cold night in November last year. Like many of the other reviewers, I was there on business, not for a meeting, but as an incentive/reward with others from my firm's management team. I have stayed in many hotels on business, and as an ex-employee of the now defunct Forte group, have worked and stayed at their most prestigious establishments. To say that this hotel puts them to shame is under-statement of the year... From our arrival, seeing the Hotel lit up tastefully on a snowy winters night, it was... more
Fantastic
Laiston House Hotel is definately one of the nicest hotels I have ever stayed in. The view of the house as you turn into the driveway sets the scene for a memorable stay. By far the best part of this hotel is the service, every member of staff we came accross was extremely polite and friendly. We had a slight problem with our room when we arrived and when I explained to reception that I was a bit disappointed as it was my partners birthday they were very apologetic and within 5 minutes a bottle of champagne had arrived in our room to help us... more
Very good. Very expensive and some room for improvement
I attended a business meeting and stayed overnight. Lainston House is a magnificent country house hotel set in its own extensive, and very attractive grounds. My bedroom was simply far, far bigger than any I have ever stayed in before. The furnishings were very much in keeping with the style of the house, albeit some of the Olde Worlde touches were a bit overdone. Negatives were a walk in wardrobe with and expired light bulb, no tea/coffee tray, and the bedroom was so cold in the evening that I put back on the bed the heavy cover which the... more
Magnificent!
I should begin this review by saying, that through work, I happen to stay in lovely hotels on a regular basis, which would make me rather blase over time. BUT how very wrong I was! From the moment my wife and I swept through the huge gates into the circular lawned driveway of Lainston House, we were treated like royalty! No sooner had I stopped the car outside the hotel's entrance, when Murial, the Guest Liaison Manager, rushed outside to welcome us, beaming all over her face! She even offered to carry our luggage herself! Two girls on... more
Memorable hotel
I had read in a review that this hotel was one of contradictions. I would agree with that. The staff were excellent, offering us a change of room when the first was too smoky, and being great with our young son. The restaurant was predictably top notch, though yes really do heed other reviewers comments that this is expensive - it comes to something when the menu gourmand becomes quite economical. One of the best breakfasts I've ever had, but again for that price it should be. Now the room. We paid a very cheap rate. The room was not the... more
Perfect Wedding Anniversary Treat
I took my wife to Lainston House Hotel for our 1st Wedding Anniversary as a surprise, egging on to her that I was taking her to a Travelodge all week. The Sunday night, dinner bed & breakfast special offer for £150 was an absolute bargain and was a truely fantastic experience. After a long drive there, I was well impressed with the sweeping drive up to the Manor House. There was a wedding party on, which in our circumstances made celebrating our anniversary more special, however parking was a bit limited. We couldn't park in the main... more
Laniston House
I have just returned from a 1 night stay at Laniston House Hotel. Although the building and grounds are beautiful there were a number of issues with our stay. Firstly the receptionist spoke poor english and was difficult to understand - surely an english country hotel should start any stay with an english speaking receptionist at the least! There is no tea and coffe in the rooms - which makes the hotel look like a real cheapskate, and instead charges £9 for two cups of tea and some stale biscuits- not what you would expect from... more
