Booked the Queens Hotel back in February for me and my Husband to spend our wedding night and was told the Bridal Suite was already taken that day (fair enough) and was told that we would get the next best room in the Hotel. The Invoice said "Supeiror Room S/V (Sea View)"... more

Southsea is a bustling town right on the sea front. The Queens Hotel is the perfect place to visit all the surrounding area. The hotel itself is grand looking and our room overlooked the sea which was lovely. There are many places to visit and the old parts of... more

WAW! What a view, I loved my stay at the queens and so did my wife. Loving the Southsea beach and bars. Many of the bedrooms at the Queen's Hotel have been fully refurbished to a high 4 Star standard. Sea-facing rooms have spectacular views. The Queen's Hotel, Portsmouth,... more

cringe!
discounted from 105 to 95 pounds , this room would not have been permitted on continent at even 1/3 the price. after running shower 30 mins still no hot water ; cheapest furnishings imaginable , tiny double bed , no bath , bathromm fittings at least 15 years old and decrepit , no seaview / window cill haight 5 foot to back street view ; so-called all night lounge desk took 35 mins at 1am to deliver tea and ham sandwiches to the lounge..... even worse than the best western at bottley grange!
better
Despite previous reviews saying past its best had a very pleasant one night stay here. Room had very recently been refurbished, very smart and clean. Staff very friendly and helpful. Nothing to criticise apart from the shower curtain which was 4 inches too short and resulted in a rather wet bathroom floor!
How the mighty are fallen
I ws born in Portsmouth and when I was growing up I remember the Queens being spoken of as the ultimate in hotel luxury. Over half a century later I got to stay there on holiday with my grandson. It may have been the ultimate once, but it's way past its best. The view from the upper rooms is breathtaking on a sunny day, but the hotel itself is faded, tired, now in a not too good area; the best that the owners can do with this is to gut the interior (I would guess that it's a listed building) and rebuild it. The staff are ok, but they can't make up for the decay of the place. Sadly I have to say - avoid it.
A lovely hotel going down hill fast
We returned to this hotel having had a good 3 days the previous year - what a let down. A specific request for 2 twin beds resulted in a double bed. 3 requests for durther coat hangers - here were only three - had no effect breakfast was rarely at time requested and the food brought was poor. fittings were poor. We would like to return - the view remians superb
untrained staff
We tried to stay at this hotel as years ago it had a very good reputation and was considered to be one of the best at the time. But we tried to stay here recently, we waited for a t least 20mins for staff to help us, but they were more interested in talking amongst themselves and completely ignored us - so much for customer service. The decor looked very jaded and in need of refurbishment. Needless to say we took our business elsewhwere!!
Avoid, avoid, avoid, over priced and very scruffy.
I booked a room at the Queens in March 2005 as it had a good reputation in Portsmouth. I was wrong, it was extremally scruffy the furniture was old, cheap and out dated, the wall paper was peeling, the bathroom had seen better days and the bath was stained. During the early hours of the morning there was an unbelievable amount of noise outside, could not work out what it was but sounded like huge metal bins being lifted and scrapped about and this went on for absolutely ages. As a result I ended up being awake for hours then sleeping late and missing breakfast which I had paid for! This hotel is not cheap it is expensive and needs a total overhaul if you are looking for a hotel in Portsmouth/Southsea then I would recomend you avoid this one at all costs. Try the Royal Beach I have stayed there before and the rooms are much, much, much better.
the queens hotel
the queens hotel was a dive, it was boring and the decor in the rooms was depressing. the kitchen was closed and had to live on sandwiches a week. all in all not a very good stay and i will not being returning in a hurry.
lack of choice
queens hotel is badly in need of an upgrade, dirty curtains and windows loose fittings on windows and doors and the single room i was given was so small that i had to change to a double despite just staying there for one night. hotel had an beautiful seafront location, but needs some money spent on refurbishment.
