Great location
from mummydearest
We have returned recently from a trip to Salou where we stayed at this hotel. It really wasnt as bad as some of the reviews i read but it was obviously the end of the season. We were Half Board and the selection at meals was to say the least limited. Toast, eggs or cereal were your safest option, except when the milk was sour, at breakfast. Evening meals were not great but usually something edible was available , even if it was just salad. it wasn't till half way through our stay we were informed by another group of guests that the childrens menu had ceased to exsist just on our arrival!! a complaint to our rep and it was resolved somewhat... they now offered us chips with our meal!! Rooms were not luxurious but were clean and tidy, maids were in daily to change towels etc. One concern was that the windows leading to our balcony locked but on return the windows would be open , left open by the maid. the other two groups we were on holiday with room windows didnt lock at all. this hotel is only 5mins max from the main beach in Salou, or two minutes to the smaller cove which was ideal to keep a closer eye on the kids. we spent a lot of time at the theme park which was again a 5 min taxi trip which the staff would happily book for you at no charge. most of the staff were helpful, polite and weel dressed. the reps were easily identified and notices up to date. the bar staff (i felt personally) could have been more polite,as could the Maitre'd. Evening entertainment was rubbish basically very little for the adults and even less for the kids . I would consider staying again but only as a base and would probably find somewhere else to eat.
ok for the money

We went to this hotel as a replacement from hotel molinos park. and it was the only one available for the dates we had and with only five weeks before we went. We had a taxi from airport (30 euros is the going taxi price) and arrived at 10.30 am. Check in was ok and first impressions at reception was oh it seems nice. But then we had to wait till 12.30 for our room. Seems everyone did if you had early morning flight. When we finally got to our room it was small with two double beds which we separated and a very small balcony which had a marvelous view of the apartments opposite. So every time u wanted to get changed you had to pull the curtain cos people were looking in. It gets cleaned every day but very basic, towel change etc . We were there 7days and had no bed sheet change. The bathroom is small, bath or shower b4 7pm or you wont get very hot water, and the toilet wobbled and the smell of drains hit you every so often. The walls are very thin so if someone talks, laughs or use's the bathroom you will hear it. The first night we did not get to sleep till 2am cos of all the noise inside and outside the hotel. The dining room is ok but the food is boring and repetative. We gave up on breakfast after two days cos it wasnt worth getting up for at 8 am. The waitress's can be rude and dont speak english. By the 4th night of eating there we also gave that up and ate out which we should of done sooner. Try the promenade it has lovely resturants. The entertainment is ok but only every other night. then its the turn of the entertainments team which is one spanish lady who cant speak much english. We spent a lot of the days in port aventura (a10min bus ride away) which has a lot of good shows and loads of rides and it beat sitting around the pool, which leaves a lot to be desired. One good thing about the hotel is happy hour (2 for 1) then the drinks are value for money otherwise its cheaper to drink out. If you get bored one evening try the magic show around the corner, go to the bar beach life for tickets . This hotel is basic and if you dont mind that then its ok as a base to sleep . I think a bit of updating a good clean and a lick of paint and it would be a good 3 star other wise this is a poor 2 star to me.
Salou, Yes - Best San Diego Hotel, No
from simplytink
4 of us stayed at this hotel in mid September, 2007 for 7 nights, so it's not what you'd call high season. We booked it months and months in advance because we wanted 2 double rooms close together if possible. When completing the booking form it asks "do you have any special requests" so, as we were booking months in advance, we requested 2 double rooms close together if possible. When we arrived one room, with balcony and a double bed was on the 5th floor and the other room was on the other side of the hotel on the 3rd floor, with balcony and 3 single beds. There was a telephone in our rooms so we thought it would not be too much of a problem. However, the phone in our room did not work. I reported it 'out of order' everyday and everyday was told it will be fixed tomorrow....... It was still out of order on the day we left. As a result we had to keep in touch by using our mobile phones! ROOMS: Room 1- 5th floor: was at the back of of the hotel and faced out onto a road and another hotel with lots of bins outside. The dustbin men came every night at midnight and emptied our hotel bins and the hotel which faced ours. Also the nightclub at the end of the road turned out very noisy nightclubbers every morning at around 3-4am. Our room was clean but very tiny with only a wardrobe for our clothes etc. The walls are very thin and anything going on next door isn't above being heard. The bed was very hard with 1 bolster pillow. The bathroom had a hook up shower that didn't work too well and the tile grouting around the bath/shower was in a pretty bad way, which made it look dirty. There was only 1 channel on the TV and the telephone was out of order for the duration of our stay. Towels supplied were thin and very rough. The maid service however, was very good. Room 2 - 3rd floor: was also clean but quite small and faced out onto the pool. Beds and bathroom were the same as ours. TV had more channels but only 1 English speaking channel and the telephone worked. POOL: Very small for the size of the hotel. It looks a lot bigger on the website. RESTAURANT: We found both breakfast and evening meal to be quite repeatative, boring and just warm, in some cases a little raw. (yuk), so we ate out most of the time. Granny's Kitchen is just around the corner from the hotel and serves great food at reasonable prices. ENTERTAINMENT: Wasn't up to much, singers, kariokee and bingo in spanish. There was one act which was very good. 4 spanish dancers, they were very good and very entertaining. We put the bad entertainment down to the time of year. BEACH: About 300 meters from the hotel. Clean, refreshments and sunbeds (which have to be paid for). The beach and sea water is lovely. SHOPPING: Hundreds of them but they all sell the same stuff and some pretty bad sewage/drainage smells wharft up along the way! Water park, adventure park and Barcelona are great places to visit. We would return to Salou but not Best San Diego hotel. Apartment from it being reasonably clean, in our opinion, it doesn't have much else going for it. Cheap but not very cheerful.
nice hotel, good value for money and great location

i stayed here from the 13th-17th august with a friend, we are both 25 and used it as a base to enjoy the beach and the excellent port aventura park, on arrival the staff were very friendly and there is a room to store luggage in until your check in time which was great as it meant we could head straight out and start enjoying our holiday. our room was a decent size with a double and single bed and good sized bathroom, we had a balcony and overlooked the pool. we had a tv but it only had one english channel which was the news!!! our only complaint was that the poolside entertainment went on until 12 and after was very noisy with people talking so on our first night when we wanted to go to sleep a little earlier as we'd been up early travelling it was near impossible!! it wasnt a problem the rest of the week as we were out at the theme park till late most nites. we walked to the park which took us about 45 mins and the reception staff helpfully gave us a map when we asked whereabouts it was, the beach is only a couple of minutes away and there is a spar supermarket just around the corner, i hope youve found this review helpful
Great 3 star hotel
from travelmad84
I have just come back from the san diego on sunday. Before i start, I have worked as a manager of a travel agents for 12years and I have stayed in many hotels all around the world, most of them being 4 or 5 star. this is the 1st 3 star hotel I have stayed in for years. I must say that I disagree with some of the reviews about this hotel. I travelled with my husband and 2 children aged 3 + 1. Overall I thought that this hotel was excellent value for money. We had 4 beds in our room and there was plenty of room - the view wasnt great - but you can't have it all! The food was okay, there was plenty of choice and even I found something I could eat and i am the world fussiest of eaters. They also had themed evenings i.e mexican which was really good. The kids evening entertainment was fab - the mini disco kept my 3year old entertained (and tired!) the adult entertainment was a bit mixed but still good. I would definately return ( as people I have booked in the past have done) and what you must remember when you book a three star hotel YOU ARE NOT going to get the ritz, and this is where people get disappointed. If you book 3 star that is certainly what you will get here, but don't be put off by other reviews - everyone likes different things, but in my opinion its a great hotel to say its only 3 star
family holiday in spain
from welshies
we are 2 adults and 1 child who have travelled abroad quite a bit in recent years and we must say that we really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. We found staff helpful, rooms clean, housekeeping excellent and the food well above average. Pool area was clean and we felt that we had all the facilities that we needed. We had read some very negative reviews on this hotel which worried us before going but were then pleasantly surprised by this well run 3 star hotel. As for the rest of our stay in Salou, we found plenty to do with PortAventura on the doorstep and other attractions close to hand. Only one negative aspect we felt could be simplified was the bus service which we found overly complex - a weekly pass or a free bus service in the ticket price would be easier all round.
Fantastic resort, Average Hotel, The Worst food ever!!
from taz45
Me and my partner who are both in our 20s flew on the 27th July 07 with Thomas Cook. We arrived at the hotel around 10pm and went to unpack, we could not believe how little the room was, but it was very clean and tidy. We didn't have the best view as our balcony was over looking the bins of the hotel across from us, but we got over that it wasn't smelly and you could see the other hotels pools. The first morning we got up for breakfast, absolutly starving, sorry to say we left the restraunt starving. The food is terrible, unless you like bland under cooked food if you dont mind just a bit of fruit for your breaky u'll be fine. we never had breakfast there again, there was a place around the corner called Grannys Kitchen, and the food was delicious as long as you dont expect service with a smile as they were the moodiest people I ever met. Sorry to say the evening meal is not any better, out of 2 weeks there were 2 days when the food was ok. The Hotel its self was quite pleasent, the rooms were cleaned every day, to a very good standard, and the Hotel in general was always clean. The pool area was a disappointment as the pool was a lot smaller than it looked in the pics and if you didn't get a sun lounger at 7 in the morning you wouldn't get 1 for the rest of the day. The bar staff were really friendly and the entertainer was fantastic, he did the kids and adults entertainment and he was so funny we loved him. Salou is a great place to go there is so much to do, being a young couple we wanted a good night life and it was really good we loved it. But if your a family with kids theres loads of stuff to do. I would recomend salou to anyone, just stay in a different Hotel unless you dont mind starving to death. We had a fantastic time, theres loads of excursions to do. We did a 24 mile bike ride down the costa durada mountains and it was fantastic and any1 could do it there were kids as yound as 5 and a man and wife in there 90s and they loved it aswell. We went to barceolna which was amazing and the shopping was great. We went to Porta Aventura a few times which was great I would recomend that you go on an evening as the the cues were ridiculous and in that heat you dont need it, on a night its cool and you get on the rides quickly. They have some amazing shows there what are must sees.

Arrived on Tuesday 7th August.Transfer took 15 minutes to hotel.Go to the meeting in the morning to meet your rep as they are really helpful in giving you information.Kids club girls are fantastic. The chocolate party for the kids is a must.Dont give them a clean t shirt to wear as they bring half the chocolate back with them.Rooms are basic, small and not alot of cupboard space for your kids stuff. But remember, you only sleep in them.Maids are in everyday changing towels, making the beds and cleaning the room.If you need a 6 seater taxi, you have to book early at reception as we tried at 21.00 and could not get one.Breakfast has alot of choice.Pancakes are mmmm. The meals in the evening are ok.Plenty to choose from, but remained the same most of the week.Take your own beveridges down with you as this might be a bit cheaper.Spar at bottom of road(2 min walk). The pool was cleaned every morning, but you have to go down at 9am to get a sunbed as they dont have enough. The kids games area behind the bar keeps the kids busy.Entertainment is great for the kids and adults.Look on the information board outside the front of hotel by the phone to see whats on.Music everynight till 12 midnight,so dont expect to go to your bed earlier.Taxi to Porta Aventura is around 6 euros going and 12 euros back(one way system on way back)If you have a ticket for the theme park/caribe waterpark you can only get into the caribe waterpark after 2pm.We had to pay to go in as we turned up at 10am.You can rent a single/double inflatable ring to go down the slides. The waterpark is fantstic.I would advise you to go to theme park after 6pm.Cooler in evening and less queues on the rides. It takes you a while to walk round the whole park.Firework display everynight is brilliant till 12 midnight.Mad rush to get taxi/bus home to hotel. We came out about 23.50 and got on the little train by the fountain at entrance to park. This will drop you of near hotel(3.00 euros for adults and 1.75 for kids). You can get cheaper trips to Barcelona down the street.Get your tickets opposite the Oasis Park hotel.Leaflets handed out there also. I didnt expect to much after reading some reviews before I went to the San Diego but I thought it was fine.I will definetly go back again. Some people just complain about anything. Its what you make it at the end of the day!!!!!
not as bad as others made out
from a-radie
I went to stay at this hotel the 5th of august for one week with my partner and my son. After reading all the bad comments I was a bit worried bu when I got there it wasnt that bad after all. The rooms are very small even though there was only 3 of us but where kept spotless everyday with clean towels. The food in the hotel is pretty good I have been in places where the food has been a lot worse. Great selection unless you totally fussy and my son who eats very little thought food was great. The hotel is in a great location but it is on top of hill but that was not a problem to us as we are young. The bus stop is near by which is great value to get about we used it all the time and it is very cheap and the drivers very helpfull. All and all you could stay in a lot worse than this hotel and i would go back and stay there again......
BARGAIN BUCKET HOLIDAY
from happypeople406
We travelled to salou on 20th July 2007 for two weeks. If you have booked i would say it wont be the worst holiday of your life. If you havent booked choose a different hotel. There were eleven in our party ranging from 9 to 65 years old. My daughter cut her food badly on the pool ladders and required hosptial treatment. The hotel staff were very helpful. Hoever they didnt remove the ladders to repair them until a week later and still the sharp bit is there. Depending on your standards the hotel cleanliness is not the worst. The bedrooms were clean but under the beds were never swept or inside the wardrobes. Under the tables in the dining rooms were cleaned if you put your bag down it was covered in bits when picked up. The pool area was swept every day but needed a good steam clean. There are plenty of shaded areas around the pool. Cambrills is well worth a visit. get the train and spend the day on the beach there, it is quieter than the main beach and much cleaner. La Padina is nice too. The downhill bike ride 24 miles is fantastic. You can book direct with them which is cheaper than booking through rep. Ask rep for a leaflet and contact the number on leaflet. All of us did it with a wide range of abilities, ie children, pensioners with heart conditions and my husband had my daughter on tag along bike due to injury to her foot. We all throughly enjoyed it. My biggest complaint would be the music was far too loud, all day and all night (turned off at midnight) thumping away. we asked several times to have it turned down but they refused. You couldnt talk at the side of the pool or if you had a room with pool view you couldnt hear telly with doors shut for the music. The food was ok, not the best we have had but you can make a meal everyday. Hope this is helpful. ADIOS
Stayed in the San Diego Hotel for 10 nights in June. 2 adults and 2 kids. When we checked in, they only had booking for 2 adults but lovely girl on reception sorted it out very quickly. Room basic, 2 double beds and air con. Bathroom grand size. Hotel spotless throughout,... more
