" Big Improvement "

At check in the guy behind the reception was very sarcastic and smarmy for no apparent reason. We asked for the safe deposit box and was told it was 39.00euros okay that was fine then we asked for the remote for the telly, he heard us as he nodded then didn't offer it. We then assumed maybe we didn't need it and went to our room. When we tried the telly we couldn't get it to work so went back for the remote which he then said 20.00euros, we said okay. Went back to room and remote didn't work. Went back down and he said "try using your fingers and how many buttons are on the telly" I asked why did you take 20.00euro for remote when we didn't need one he smirked and shrugged and told us to come back in the morning to get the 20.00 back. Not wanting to waste anymore time arguing we went out again. We came back about 6pm and a new lady was on reception so I got the remote and brought it down, as soon as we gave the room number she knew we didn't need a remote she shook her head in dismay that the arrogant idiot before her had given us one. She was very polite and apologised for his stupid error. I see no reason why this man was such an [--] but there you go, you get them everwhere.
Other than him we can't praise the staff enough very friendly and helpful and the maids who came everyday to change sheets and towels were great.
We were pleasantly suprised as the evening meal had greatly improved, there was plenty of choice and it was always hot and the service was very good. The breakfasts however were still not very good the bacon is barley cooked and the sausages I have never seen anything like them. Most of the time it was cold so wasn't overly impressed with it.
Location wise it's great and easy to get to many shops bars and restaurants, one of the best places we went is 2mins from hotel it's the 19th Hole nice friendly owners and the food was really good.
This is our second visit to this hotel and I feel now it is in need of a bit of decorating other than that would go again.

Advice: Salou was great has everything I like in a holiday, great beaches, shops bars and lots more.....

Activities: 19th Hole, Rio Grand and The Happy Drinker

" great value for money "

We were a party of 9 and usually go for a 4* as we are really fussy people but booked this last minute on an all inclusive package which, we thought, was excellent value. I have never written a review but really, some people want 5* facilities for nothing!
Transfer was easy and very close to location. First impressions were not great as we are used to the large holiday villages but got into our room within half hr of arrival. Rooms, yes are quite basic and small but ok (who spends all day in their room on holiday anyway). Our air con did not work but was fixed so no probs there. Walls are thin but aren't the majority (well they have been on all our hols)?
Pool was small and could do with being alittle larger for the size of the hotel but fine for a quick swim for us adults and the kids loved it. The only negative thing with the pool area was you could not go out until the cleaners had finished which was 8.30am - by this time there was a queue (not a huge one but we just got down there at 8.15) and a mad rush to get a sunbed (they could do with having less tables and a few more sunbeds) but, we joined the queue and did not find this a huge issue. Beaches are very close by but we tended to stay by the pool. The kids did the trip to Barcelona which they really enjoyed and we had a fantastic day at the water park.
Being all inclusive, we had drinks/snacks etc all day and again, this was no different than the better hotels we have stayed at. I read 1 review that stated the party was sick upon leaving the resurant every day...what a load of nonsense. The resturant is large and you could easily find a table. Food was a good selection and we always found something to suit the kids and us. Breakfast was great but they could do with more than 1 toaster but not a huge issue.
Entertainment was not the best but a holiday, surely, is what you make of it? Like other reviews, there was 1 guy doing the majority of it but there were shows on which were ok.
Location was really good. Yes, its in a town so, of course, you are going to get views of other hotels etc but its great for the shopping/other beaches/resturants/pubs etc but we didn't hear it at nightime.
As I said, we are really fussy when it comes to hols but all in all we had a great time for what we paid for the package. Please don't listen to all the moaners out there (there was some ridiculous peeople there who moaned for the sake of moaning over trivial things)!

" great holiday "

i booked the holiday and then read the reviews and ended up dreading going on holiday because of what i had read. We got to the hotel and were pleasently suprised, the receptionist at the hotel spoke english and was very freindly and the holiday rep was waiting at the hotel entrance to meet us. We arrived at 11.30 and were in the room by 12.00 so there wasnt any waiting around after a long trip, the room was clean there was 2 queen size beds in the room a desk with a tv 2 bed side cabinets a coffie table and a very large mirror wardrobe, it was a decent sized room with a good sized balcony on the balcony there was 2 chairs and a table and the bathroom was a good size with everything youde expect in a spanish hotel. we were there for 7 nights and the room was cleaned top to bottom every morning at about 10ish we had clean towells and bed sheets everyday and the sand and dirt were cleaned out really well, also nothing ever went missing from the room which isnt what ide read on other reveiws. we did hire the safe which is in the room it cost 39 euros 20 of which you get back when you hand in the keys, the rooms also have air con which was nice cause it was mid 30s when we were there. theres a good size bar which serves good value drinks and the bar staff are really nice i took my 7 and 10 year old sons and they loved it in there, outside there is a good size pool and a kids pool which really is better suited for toddlers. there is also more than enough tables and chairs and sun lounges for everyone, the only bad thing about outside that i found is that in certain areas there are ants and they do bite so you need to be careful where you sit. we had breakfast and tea its all buffet style i never had to que for anything and there where more than enough tables, the restuarant staff where brilliant they are very helpful and freindly and again they are great with kids, you must remember though its not a gordon ramsay restuarant and then you wont be dissapointed. the entertainment was in my opinion more aimed at the kids which for me was fine there was a parrot show and magic show and a few other things that the kids really loved, the rest of the entertainment is pretty repetative i think probably this is one of the reasons the hotel is only a 3 star, i would go back to this hotel in a heart beat and would recommend it to my freinds

Advice: get to the beach early for a good spot

Activities: we loved the beach and the fountains on the beach front are great in the evening

" good hotel "

I and my family four adults and two kids under seven had a nice week in this hotel. We did have to wait for our rooms to be ready but this is normal if you arrive before midday.Breakfast was full english buffet style plus various choice of alternative food ham cheese toast jams fresh fruit, restaraunt was nice clean and spacious there is a chef in attendance at meal times. At breakfast you are able to have your pancakes or omelletes cooked to your own liking or at your evening meal you can have steak different flavoured sausages or fish grilled while you wait.I know that this review seems to be all on the hotels side but people can do a lot worse on the minus side the lifts were a bit small but we did have a childs pushchair everytime we used them.We had a problem with transfers but we had arranged these ourselves but the male hotel receptionist sorted this out for us and all we had to pay was the phone call.Staff were pleasant and in our opinion helpfull as well.

Advice: Their is plenty of nightlife near this hotel very rowdy irish bars and nice quiet family bars .

Activities: Chrisses irish bar is a good night out till early a m

" useless "

Me and my girlfriend stayed at the san diego from the 29th of May till 7th june 2009. From the start it was a disaster, when we arrived we found that we couldnt check in untill 12.30pm. We were advised to put our luggage into a unlocked room and find somewhere to go for a few hours. When we came back to finally check in the reception staff were very rude and unhelpful. When we got to our room we found that we had a balcony over looking another hotels back yard where the bins were kept and collected. when looking around the room for a plug socket we only found 1 socket for the whole room, and in the bathroom we found another uncovered plug socket which we both thort was very dangerous.Back in the room itself holes were pipes were going through walls were filled with tissue paper. It was clear very soon that the walls were very thin and that pretty much everything could be heard between rooms.
The food in the hotel was the same everyday and the smell became to much to even eat there. There realy wasnt much choice and chips were on the menu with everything. The only positive thing about the food was the pancakes freshly cook in the mornings.
As our stay went on things just got worse. We had a problem with items going missing from our bathroom (even though we had a safety deposit box) and when we reported it to the hotel reception they insisted that they would speak to the cleaners and the manager and report back to us. They even insisted that the bag had left the hotel room on its own.The next day we reported it to our holiday rep and shegave the impression that this hapens often. the rep spoke to the reception about it and again we were told the same thing and our rep if we could get some free drinks at dinner to which the head receptionist answered "what for this". we requested that we didnt want the cleaners in our room after this and we would take the towls and rubbish out to them.we returned later that day as asked to find a new menber of staff on duty that new nothing about the situation, and were told that the manager would not be in for a few days,by this time we would have not ben there. The situation was left like this.Overall this holiday was a total shambles and the only good thing i can say is that the weather was lovely.

" disaster! "

worst holiday i have ever had, i would never waste my money there ever again. were do i start?. second night in the hotel i tried plugging a hairdryer into the plug socket beneath the mirror only to find it was hanging off the wall and ended up having a shock!! so not chil friendly what so ever. then me and my boyfriend came back from a lovely meal by the sea front only to find our patio doors had been opened, which i had found quite scary. we had told reception, but all they did was give us another room key. we went back out for ten minutes came back only to find out that we were locked out of our own room. but all the receptionist said was to kick the door down and be faced with criminal damage. also i had put a clean pair of clothes on my bed before we went to relax by the pool, came back up in the afternoon to find they had been taken. the fact some one you think you can trust would do that!!!! overall we ended up with three room keys for different rooms! the pool was okay but with no bins provided rubbish was laying all over the place. my boyfriend also had been sitting in the hotel bar having a drink and had forgot his bag, he had 50 euros in his bag but the waiter had give his bag back and noticed 20 euros had been taken so we were very dissapointed. I am a vegatarian so going to a hotel which didnt realy catter for me was very hard. although afters were delicious...overall i will not be returning as the hotel did truely ruin my holiday!

" worst hotel have been to  "

i went to this hotel in july. when we arrived it was ok we got a good welcome. room was basic but that was exepected like everywhere else. got a big shock when we could hear the couple next rooms full conversation as the walls where paper thin. throughout each night ther was screaming outside the rooms and nothing was done about it. food was ok got a bit sick of it after the 3rd day. we had a major problem with goods going missing from the room when they were getting cleaned. i had herd of this problem and was told to see the rep but he/she did not turn up atall! there was not much to do at night. overall i would not recoment this hotel atall. it was a waste of money and you cannot get a good nights sleep for the paper thin walls.

" Me and my boyfriend stayed in this... "

Me and my boyfriend stayed in this hotel a week ago now. I actually really miss the hotel. We absolutely loved it! Staff and cleaners were very friendly and trustworthy. I left my valubles in my room and when i came back the room was spotless and my valubles were still there. I think the food was great! My boyfriend had 5 plates of food! Would definately stay there again. The bad points were that there was only 1 toaster, so there was a long que just to get your toast. Also, because the walls are thin I got woken up a few times with people slamming doors and talking loudly. Other than that, everything else was perfect. Plus the beach is only 5mins from the hotel! I recommend this hotel! THANKS SAN DIEGO :D

" First impressions of the hotel... "

First impressions of the hotel weren't great, and walking into our room didn't impress anymore. The room was small, and thinking I'd booked a double bed I was a bit shocked to discover 2 single beds on either side of the room. There wasn't much room to walk around. However my opinion of the San Diego did change, the food being a major factor, my boyfriend and I were amazed at breakfast and dinner; there was so much choice daily. And the location was handy as it really was close to everything, a walk from Port Adventura, the beach and the bars. The staff were helpful and friendly, and the rooms were cleaned everyday along with fresh towels.
For what we paid and the fact it's a 3* the San Diego was a good choice.

" After reading previous comments about... "

After reading previous comments about this hotel i was worried about what me and my girlfriend were going to get. To be honest this hotel was fantastic for what we got!. Clean rooms daily , good food and at least they tried with the entertainment.

When we arrived we were greeted by the reception staff in a friendly and kind manner. Much appreciated. We then entered our room which was basic but clean bed clean towels and clean bathroom. No Problems!!.

Next morning we arrived at breakfast i was amazed full english (frankfurters) breakfast cereals loads of different breads , fruits , fresh meats greated us , Breakfast was always hot and the chefs were always constantly changing any food that looked empty. It was spot on!. This hotel even did pancake/crepes in the morning fresh for you.

Poolside was ok not sure if there is enough loungers but to be honest we went to the beach which is a 5 minute work and some stunning views on the way down there. With more reference to the poolside area the pool was clean and tidy and even had its own jacuzzi.

After enjoying the selections at breakfast i knew the evening meal would not disappointed us and sure enough it never. There was so much selection for us to choose from fresh salads , meats to hot buffet food , chips (if your fussy) although they even hot a burger/hot dog grill with a chef cooking hot dogs etc fresh for you! So you surly cant starve at this hotel. Every night the food would vary so we were happy.

Overall honestly im a person who would not come on here and say these things if i wasnt completely happy with the holiday ive just had. This hotel is very good value for money and would reccomend anyone coming to salou to go the the San Diego Salou.

" I booked this hotel for myself and my... "

I booked this hotel for myself and my husband and our 9yr old son before i read the reviews. When i did read them i thought 'oh my god, what have i done'.
But obviously some people expect a whole lot more from a 3* spanish hotel.

The reception staff were very polite when we arrived, the maids come round every day cleaning your rooms and leave clean towels and always left the room spotless. The bar staff were also helpful and at least understood english!!

Breakfast was the same every day but lots of choice, mostly continental on offer, but most days we went to Granny's Kitchen around the corner as they make great british breakfasts!!

Evening dinner was different every night and plenty of choice, loads of fresh fruit to choose from and the desserts were lovely!
My son always had plenty to choose from in the kids section and they can eat unlimited amounts of ice-cream!! Drinks at dinner have to be paid for but were very reasonable.
The spanish think we like chips for every meal so don't be surprised when you see them for breakfast as well!!

Our balcony overlooked the road and was much more entertaining than looking over the pool.Entertainment was okay, but the kids disco got a bit repetitive.

The hotel is 2 mins from the the small beach but get there early to get a place and the main beach is about 10 mins away.Public buses seem to run all day and night!!

We did a day trip to Barcelona which was great,we didn't do the theme park as people were complaining about the 2hr queues to get on the rides.

Our only complaints about this hotel were that the air conditioning could have been more powerful and there was no fridge in the room.

Overall we had a brilliant and very relaxing time at this hotel and don't always believe what you read on these reviews because it's you that makes a holiday what it is.

" Had a superb time at this hotel, the... "

Had a superb time at this hotel, the rooms were clean and maids kept this up every day and throughout the day they were cleaning around the hotel. The staff were very cheery and friendly and contrary to other reports on here I did not meet a miserable one all week.

The poolside was nice quite busy but enough loungers to go round and prices at the bar were reasonable enough.

The food was very nice, breakfast was the same every day and if you like pancakes your made!!! Dinner was equally nice with something different every night to accompany chips but some tasty english items as well as local quisine one night which was marvellous.

Around the hotel there is plenty of choice its a prime location easy access to the beach, supermarkets and the main street cna be a bit noisy from the pubs!!!!!!
If your staying try the VIctoria, the 19th hole which is further up and also champions bar which was ace for the kids and parents.

My only criticism of this hotel would be that the walls are thin, but what the hell your on holiday!!!!!!!!
