Nov 2011, holiday hell

If your idea of 4 star food is radioactive looking pink mousse for dessert then this is for you. If you enjoy the same very salty food every day and a complete lack of any fresh fruit with the exception of melon, that is served at every meal then go right ahead, you will... more

We have just returned from an 11 night holiday at this hotel. Just be careful if you are used to a 4 star hotel particularly with regard to facilities and the food. This is more like a 3 star. The room was basic but fine. The food however was horrendous. The choice was... more

because i am an 18 year old girl, i would rather stay in laganas which i have booked with my friends for summer 09, as it is more club 18-30 than argassi, but if you want the joys of clubs/bars on your doorstep but at the same time quite a family atmosphere then diana... more

Worthwhile
My boyfriend and I stayed here for two weeks on a half board basis, this was the first time we had been to Greece. The two weeks were very enjoyable and there is plenty to do, i wouldn't say Argassi is very big but in my opinion its just big enough. There are a lot of nice restaurants and bars to choose from, the only thing i would say is its all very english, big screen TV's with football on and english food etc. But there are traditional greek places too. Few restaurants to recommend: Castaways, they do a nice steak! There is also one which sits on a slight hill behind the crazy golf, you'll know it when you see it! We also went to the restaurant on the way to Zante with the piano in the garden, food is lovely but don't go on a windy day because it can get quite chilly. Bars: Pretty much any of them have great music and entertainment but my favourite would have to be The Factory, which is just opposite the hotel. If you, like me do not like the breakfast in the hotel (horrible!!) then go to Snack Academy, they do lovely food in there, and some very nice deserts! Recommendations for trips: If your going to do a cruise make sure you do the half day cruise as the day cruise is way to long. We went to see Shipwreck Beach and the Blue Caves and it was fab, a must see!!! Also you have to go on the Jeep Safari, as long as you don't mind a bumpy ride then you will really enjoy it. They take you across the island and do a bit of off roading and they are really nice guys. make sure that you go with "Zante Insight". The waterpark is ok, its not very big at all but you can still sunbathe if you want or go on some waterslides etc so maybe worth a go. Apart from the breakfast the rest of the food was pretty good, they have Italian nights and Greek nights and also in the main bar they have bingo, quizzes etc so you will be kept well entertained. There isn't really a beach in Argassi so you will to travel to St Nicholas beach which isn't very far and has a lot of watersports. Make sure you also check out Porto Zorro, its really pretty there and the bar/restaurant is lovely! I wouldn't return to Argassi purely because we have seen pretty much all there was to see, but would definately return to Greece. Oh and make sure you hire a car/bike/beach buggy to travel the island, its nice to explore, we found a really lovely place called Keri. I will post some pictures once i have uploaded them. Good website to check out, which also has reviews for the jeep safari is [---] Enjoy! and if you have any questions then please email me.
First visit to Greece
This was my first visit to Greece although my husband has visited a couple of the other Greek Islands. I had read about problems with the airport before going so was expecting problems but was pleasantly surprised on arrival as everything went very smoothly and we waited no longer for our cases than at any other airport. However once we were aboard the coach returning to the airport for departure the rep informed us that there is virtually no room in the departure area of the airport for people to queue to check in and therefore we were herded like sheep outside the airport under canopies in the blazing sun for about an hour and a half before being able to check in. We had an hours delay but as the airport is so tiny we decided just to go through passport control and get a seat in departures - WRONG! We went through to be met by a sea of people in a tiny hall for all the gates and virtually no seating (people were sat on every stair going up to the duty free shop even though there were big signs telling you not to sit there). The floor was filty but people were so hot and tired a lot of people sat on it anyway. Apart from that The Diana Palace is a nice place to stay the staff were very helpful, especially the pool barman. The apartments are equipped with the basic neccisities although there is only one and a half rings to cook on and after the first day we decided it was easier to eat out. There are loads of restaurants and again the people are really friendly. The only downside is they have staff on the door of every restaurant trying to get you inside which can be a bit tiresome. The beach is non existant but Kalamaki is only a short taxi ride away and is a beautiful and quiet spot. The pool area is good and whatever time we went to the pool always got a sunbed. Air conditioning costs 5 euros a day but well worth the money. We did find the beds although cleaned every day were particularly hard.
Great Holiday
Just back from a great week @ the Diana Palace Hotel with my Mum. We were staying in one of the SC Apartments which was lovely and clean, if not a little small. We had a big double bed, TV (no english channels), Kitchenette (hob, sink, toaster, kettle), a nice bathroom with shower and a balcony! The Hotel itself was lovely with a nice pool area and bars. Agassi was really nice too, lots of great restaurants, bars and shops...so plenty to keep you occupied. The beach in Argassi was pretty non-existant so we got a free bus (available outside the Avalon Bar on the main street) to a Beach called St Nicholas everyday. It was lovely there, you had to pay 8Euros for 2 sunbeds but you also got your return bus ticket for the journey back. There is a beach bar and water sports available here too, but no shop so be prepared to pay a bit extra for can of juice etc. All in all we had a great holiday and would definitely return to both Zante & the Diana Palace Apartments. Oh one final thing....the airport departures area is a bit of a shambles and it is tiny. I wouldn't let that stop you but just be prepared and wear some cool clothes for waiting at the airport.
Great Hotel
This was our first visit to Zakynthos & we stayed in self catering accommodation at the Diana Palace & would highly recommend it. Our very comfortable room had a kitchenette including fridge, microwave kettle & toaster. We also had a balcony overlooking the gardens with a glimpse of the sea. The only downside we found to Argassi was the disappointing beach but a free bus goes to the loveley beach of St Nicholas every day & there are several others a bus journey away. There are coach & boat trips galore to choose from & Zakynthos town is anly a 45 minute stroll away. We tried a different restaurant every night and had great food & wonderful service in them all. For a romantic restaurant with views of Zakynthos Bay try the one a few minutes past the church towards Zakynthos (name escapes me but it had an old grand piano in the garden!)
best family holiday so far !!
me and my family stayed here in aug 2003 and it was one of the best holidays we have been on ,we are returning in june this year and i cant wait .the staff were friendly ,it was so clean ,it was just fab ,cant wait to go back !!!
Purrrrfect!
we arrived on the first flight into Zante of the season - the resort whilst quiet was perfect. although a number of the restaurants and bars were still preparing for the onslaught of summer they were more than happy to accommodate. The hotel was fab. There seemed only to be 8 guests (including us) for the first few days, the weather was hot and we had the pool (and own private bar tender) to ourselves. The staff couldn't have been more friendly. The back of the resort offers lovely walks from cascading flowers to roaming hens! I truely felt I was in the real greece. The 'beach' was narrow but what better way to end the day than a glass of wine sitting at the waters edge watching the sunset...my shirley valentine moment!!
great place and so friendly
Lovely place, very clean and the staff were wonderful, i shall be going again.
nice people
I loved this hotel! i had a very good summer break. The hotel was very nice and the staff where friendly and helpful every time i asked for something. It is a very nice feeling when people who you do not know giving you a very big smile every morning and call you with your name. I will be back soon. Thank you for beeing yourselves :-)
Great holidays
Me and my friend Jitka have stayed at Diana Palace in Argassi, 4 km from the capital- Zakynthos Town. The hotel was very nice, the rooms were clean, large with a balcony, Tv set, fridge, aircondition, hairdryer. The cuisine was delicious- breakfast and dinner rich and various. The town beach was not very large but we visited more beaches, that were very clean and the water was brilliant. The most beautiful is Shipwreck beach with the water really fantastic. The personal was friendly, the waiters to. I can recommend this hotel (4 *) to very exacting tourists,we spent there excellent 10 days. Alena and Jitka
End of Season
We have just arrived back from the Diana Palace having stayed there from 20-27 October in one of the self catering apartments. We were in a studio apartment and found that it is adequate for three people and has the usual equipment i.e. place settings for 3, cooker, toaster, kettle. The apartment was cleaned and bin emptied every day. Sheets were changed twice in the week we were there and clean towels every day. It is quite a large complex and nicely set out. The pool area is clean and it also has a small pool for children. The staff were very helpful in answering questions. As for the resort itself there are a lot of restuarants to chose from with a wide array of dishes Greek and English and quite reasonably priced. Zakynthos Town is about a half hour walk from the hotel but this is not advisable as there are no pavements in a lot of places and the road is very busy. We did it once but it was a bit scary so we got the bus after that. The bus stop is at the bottom of the road and costs 1 euro. Unfortunately Argassi closes down at the end of October until the first of May so most shops and restuarants were closed on the last day of our holiday. There are also a lot of travel shops around the resort offering trips at very reasonable prices. We went on four trips and enjoyed them all. We had a great holiday and would definitely go back to Argassi and the Diana Palace as this resort has a little bit more character than the others that we visited.
