Royal Tarraco Hotel

This hotel, in my opinion, does not cater for people on vacation. For example, the pool is next to a four lane motorway, it has no children’s section, floats were not allowed and sun shades were discouraged, there was a pool bar but it never opened.
There was one bar open inside the hotel but as the air-conditioning was broken it was too hot to sit in it (36°). On the third day the bar ran out of soft drinks (“to many people drinking” the barman explained). There was no entertainment. There was a pool table and a large screen TV (32"), however the TV did not work (“Kaput” the barman explained). The bar closed at 11pm, however after representation to the hotel management this was extended to 11.30pm and on our last day midnight.
Breakfast was reasonable though probably not what you would expect from a 4 sun hotel. Breakfast finished at 10am and if you missed it no hot food was available in the hotel or in it’s vicinity until lunchtime. Did not try lunch but did try dinner which in my and other peoples opinion was very poor indeed. Although we had paid for half-board, decided to eat out most nights (6 out of 7). And by the way children could not purchase an ice cream in the hotel.
The service in the hotel was very poor, what may have contributed to this was that only limited English was spoken.
Also the hotel staff were not used to looking after people on holiday. We believe this hotel to be a commercial hotel who’s
guests are predominately Spanish business people.
Another irritation was that we had taken travellers cheques and there was no facility to change them in the hotel. It took a visit to five local banks to get them changed, the first four refused because they were not John Cooks?.
First Choice, referred to as Last Choice by the guests of the Royal Tarraco, provided this hotel. It was an 'accommodation on arrival' holiday which according to the First Choice web-site would include a "typical" hotel and be up to standard you would expect from a 4 sun luxury hotel.
I hope common sense will prevail and First Choice will not send any more holidaymakers to this hotel.
