A disappointing stay
Our stay at the Didsbury House Hotel was a birthday treat but unfortunately was not successful: ·We asked for a suite, which to our understanding has two rooms. We wanted this as we have a baby and wanted to separate the bedroom from the living area so we would not disturb his sleeping. We did not get this. The suite consisted of one room, although to be fair it did have two bathrooms! We rejected the room and they offered us a second, which was a suite, rooms separated by a mezzanine level. However the room was not prepared.... more
One of the nicer stays in Manchester esp. if you do not want to stay in a chain
One of the better hotels in the greater manchester area. Had room 51 which was spacious, but a long walk from downstairs. a map for this maze to find the room would be nice. Niceley decorated with nice atmosphere. Staff was very friendly and helpfull. The only problem i experienced was that there was no water pressure in the morning. according the staff a problem for the whole area. problem was solved after breakfast so i could hit the showers. Best black pudding I ever had. Also the area was nice colse to Disdbury Village where several nice... more
Lovely Hotel
My husband and I have just returned from a long weekend staying at the Didsbury House Hotel and throughly enjoyed our stay. We booked a suite, £280 for two nights, as we were celebrating our anniversary as well as visiting the city to watch Oasis play at Manchester City stadium. Upon check in we were pleasantly surprised to find that we had been upgraded to the Queens suite which was like a small apartment. The staff were extremely friendly and as they don't have a formal restaurant they offered to book a table at a local... more
Desperately overrated
What's the fuss about? If this is really the best hotel Manchester has to offer, the city has bigger problems than the rain. Didsbury House is an oversized detached house off a busy main road in a suburb of Manchester. The decor is all a bit passe (neutral tones, circa 1999). The common areas are fine, with a couple of pleasant enough lounge areas, and the terrace adjoining the bar would be fine on a good day, although its proximity to some of the smaller bedrooms could cause problems for those residents. The rooms themselves, at least the... more
Shame
I stayed at the Didsbury recently. From the outset the omens were not so good. The day before I was due there was a flurry of communications from the hotel and serial confusion about my previously confirmed booking. I had several contradictory e-mails and a telephone message that actually got the dates of my stay wrong as well as telling me they had overbooked and would have to send me to another hotel miles away. Not such a good start. On arrival I found things much as per website pictures. The members of staff were quite... more
A lovely weekend
We stayed at Didsbury House Hotel last weekend. The staff were friendly. The room was huge, nicely decorated and clean. Breakfast (although extra) was very nice too.
Superb!
Having read everything on the internet about this hotel I was very excited about staying. It was everything we could have hoped for and more!!! The staff were absolutly superb extremly attentive without being overbearing (we felt like celebrities the way we were treated!) The room was fantastic even though we only stayed in a classic room (one of the most 'basic' but not basic at all) we had such a lovely stay. There was a small wait on check in but the clearly well trained staff apologied for this and the service from then on was faultless.... more
Nice but...
I agree with the previous comments re getting cheaper deals and getting exactly that. I booked on a discount website, my room was ok but it was a smoking room (not asked for) and smelt not only of smoke but musty dampness. The bathroom had defects (part of hot tap missing, cistern handle loose etc), I definately felt a little short changed. I would probably stay there again but would be very chosey about the room. I think it is easy to become wrapped up in the other comments and gush about how wonderful it all is, it is different and... more
Everything we could dream for
Working in the hotel industry myself means I know what I am looking for in a good hotel, so having heard about Didsbury House some years ago, I was keen to try it out. We checked in early but this was not a problem for the host who showed us to room number 12. The outside of the building, the pubilc areas and the corridors all made me more than excited to see what the room would be like. A duplex suite, with all the mod cons meant we were reluctant to leave for the evening we had planned with friends in Manchester. After a few drinks in... more
A Home from Home
I have stayed at this hotel from the first week that it opened and never has a hotel product maintained its same fresh appeal from day one. The difference in this hotel from so many in manchetser are the fanstastic staff at this property and number eleven down the road. The passion for this hotel really comes from the owners who never except second best. So to my highlights of this hotel. There are a number of very unique rooms at this hotel and if you are staying for a special occasion then try for one of the duplex suite rooms. A two... more
