Quick business stop in Muscat
I only had an overnight stop in Muscat for business. The hotel seemed more geared to vacation travel than business travel and I felt out of place in the breakfast room next to all the people wearing swimwear. For business though, the Internet worked and check-in was seamless, and Priority points were earned. I could not get the heat to go above 22C in the room. It was cold and I was cold. I'm staying here again in March and I hope it's warmer. I've been told the pool facilities are nice but I don't have the time to check them out. The... more
Best ugly hotel I've ever stayed in!
We've just stayed here for six nights having escaped from the first major snow of a London winter. My wife & I needed a vacation with winter sun. Muscat provided exactly the right weather (27/18), sunshine all day and a fantastic beach (Al Qurum). The hotel is right on the beach, and also head great gardens all around with two good pools. We ate in all the inhouse restaurants and were not dissappointed.
Good for a one-night transit
Hotel was first five star hotel in Oman, and its 1970's design is pretty obvious. Tired rooms, swimming pool with astro turf around it, plastic pink sofa outside room...definitely a hotel with no taste, but fine if you're transiting to somewhere else in Oman and don't want to pay the price of Chedi or Shangri La. Definitely crying out for a refurb. Best thing about Oman is hiring a 4WD and dirivng through the stunning mountains and sand dunes. Muscat is good for a day's visit.
Reliable and good value
We always stay in this hotel on business or leisure trips to Muscat. It is better value than the top graded ones and doesn't try to be what it isn't, ie an over-the-top resort hotel. The beach location is perfect though to be honest I just look at the sea, enjoy the garden area and swim in one of the two pools. The restaurants are only ordinary - a Trader Vics, a poolside cafe, a Mexican in the basement, and the ubiquitous coffee shop - but you are only a short taxi ride away either in to the city centre or out further along the coast to... more
lovely hotel
Stayed at this lovely hotel as the first 2 nights of a round the world trip. Had looked at the reviews on this site and thought it sounded the best hotel for the price range, but it was much better than we expected. We had a club room which was really nice and I would recommend anyone to take this for the small amount extra it costs. You could take breakfast in the club room or in the main buffet, we opted for the latter, which was excellent. The canapes and drinks were good, although a point to note is that the hotel does not... more
Good service, food and amenities
I travel to Muscat on business. If I have a weekend (thur/fri) I will stay at the Intercon, if not the Radisson-it's nearer my work, without the choice or beach. The Intercon is just great! The rooms are big, the beds are comfortable, whilst the bathroom is a little dated. The choice od restaurants is good. As per a previous contributor, Senor Pico's is fantastic Mexican food, with good cocktails. The pub really rocks at the weekend! The grounds are fantastic, with a regular swimming pool and a large fun pool. Plenty of loungers,... more
First visit to oman
Having visited Dubai many times, this year we decided to go to Oman befor it became built up like UAE. We booked into the Inter Continental being four senior citizens as we felt it was within reach of many of the local attractions. The hotel is a four star hotel with five star staff. Obviously the hotel was built in the sixties but has had a revamp in the reception/atrium area but sadly our rooms still had old type bathrooms with antique hairdryers, old minibars dated furniiture and furnishings and no tea making facilities as you... more
Excellent Service & Variety & Good Location
This was the fourth Muscat hotel I stayed in on a 2 week business visit (its good to test the options), and it is the one I am returning to next month. I didn't use the business facilities because I was working long hours at the clients office. But the leisure facilities, and the choice of food is good. There should be a resuarant / bar to suite all tastes. Personally my companion and I couln't resist the caipirinhas and great nosh at Senior Picos. On a day off a short stroll away is the glorious Qurum beach, or just lounge by the pool. Also... more
Excellent Facilities and Service
This hotel is centrally located, fronts onto the beach and has an excellent range of facilities available. Although one of the original international hotels in Muscat, it was completely refurbished in recent years and everything appears to be new. Our room was large and well furnished - we recommend the seaview. The service was very good, likewise the pool. We found the Tomato Bar, which was commented on unfavourably in an earlier review, to be very good as well. The health club facilities means that the pool is usable by Expats, but... more
Excellent except for...
The Inter is a lovely hotel, friendly staff, excellent food etc and the location is perfect for a bit of sight seeing (Wadi Shaab is a must)and trips into Muscat and the soukh in Muttrah. The only minus is the Tomato cafe at pool side. I think it's recently opened after being re vamped. The service was appalling, 20 minutes for a glass of water! We were weak with hunger by the time the average food arrived. We gave it another chance and if anything it was even worse and it wasn't even busy. There were plenty of staff but they were... more
