Duisdale Country House Hotel

What a glorious combination - stunning, majestic scenery and a comfy Victorian hunting lodge to return to by night! We spent but three days on Skye and thoroughly enjoyed every minute.
The gods were with us as the sun shone and the skies were clear, giving us the most wonderful opportunity to explore the island and the nearby mainland sites. There's plenty to see and do: walking, hiking, boat trips, castles, pubs, a steam train, a distillery, brochs, and endless space simply to absorb the magnitude of the place.
The Duisdale Country House Hotel is a lovely building which is in the process of being restored/upgraded by its new owner. It's comfy rather than grand, erring on the side of a family home minus the clutter and dogs. The rooms are clean and ours was large, complete with four poster, but there are various options depending on your budget. The dinners are a major selling point - truly tasty and wholesome food, beautifully presented but without any unnecessary artifice.
The gardens and terraces look like they'd be lovely once the summer comes ... it was really too cold to do much lounging about when we were there!
Our drive back through mainland Scotland made for an outstanding finale to our trip; thick snow had fallen the previous night across the Highlands and we gently drove back towards London, enjoying the stark white peaks and valleys - another magnificent day!
