Grand Hotel Des Iles Borromees

I have to say this hotel really impressed us on first impressions. I was wandering around wowing! for ages. We got upgraded from a garden view room (which seemed to have a lovely view by the way) to a lake view room for no extra charge - even though we were on a one night out of 3 night free offer - so we got a real bargain! lovely hotel with beatiful views over the lake in a great location on the edge of Stesa. Excellent service all round, helpful staff atc. The decor is special and our room was excellent. As you would expect this does not come cheap. The only downside are the mosquitos-they bite!and there are millions of them. Take a stron insect repellant.

I just came back from a week end in Stresa and the Grand Hôtel is really a great place. Staff is pleasant. But above all the Beauty Center a must. We had a chance to have a junior suite with Lake View. It's worht it !

My husband and I have been to the Grand Hotel in Stresa twice in the last two years. It is a wonderful, dramatic, spotless hotel. Great atmosphere, beautiful rooms, well located. You can't miss with this one.

This is a place for people who are attentive to the last detail, who value the very subtle differences that make all the difference. This hotel is perfect; the level of quality that has been achieved in the decoration is really outstanding. I regret the presence of too many people on convention, which tend to spoil the atmosphere.

After staying at this hotel I rate the accomodation as slightly above average for a hotel in this category. The positives were: 1)The lake views --from some of the rooms--are outstanding 2) Very nice quality toiletries supplied in the bathroom 3) Delicious green olives and chips served complimentary in the bar/ lounge 4) Pretty grounds and glitzy french decor makes you feel like a royal. 5) Friendly local shopkeepers referred us to a couple of the most memorable meals of our trip. 5) Fabulous local wine and liquor shop shipped us home 6... more

I can't say enough about this hotel. If you can afford to pay the $600 per day for a small, lakefront suite you couldn't be let down. Perfect location, perfect view and outstanding staff, totally willing to be of service. Everything is within walking distance. Also ... rent a motor launch for the day and have the Captain take you around the lake.

This hotel is nice, but.....there are comprable hotels in the exact area for half the price. We stay in the Lake District every year for the past 4 years and stay at the best hotels. If you are considering this hotel, maybe consider the Hotel Regina or even the Bristol for half the price. This hotel caters to the Milanese business-type and therefore has lost its warmth for the leisure tourist. Just thought we would give you an update review as of June 5, 2003.

We just returned from 3 nights in Stresa at this hotel. The hotel was spectacular, the rooms beautiful, the location perfect, and the amenities were wonderful. The spa services were great, and they had wonderfully priced spa specials. Our beds were turned down every night, and the location is so close to everything . . . we walked everywhere! Stresa is one of the most beautiful places in the world . . . if you can shell out this kind of money for a hotel, even just once, don't miss it! Perfect honeymoon or anniversary spot!

Most Victorian hotels are dark and ornately depressing. This one is white with soaring ceilings and pastel frescos! All the (many) chandeliers are pink and blue Murano glass; this repetition of the cheerful color scheme is genius. Imperial-looking furniture, upholstered in pastel silks for which the region is justifiably famous, delight the eye. Gold trim grounds these pieces and keeps the lobby from becoming "cloying" in its swetness. The painter just have just left; the lobby gleamed!I can't wait to return and take my daughter!
