Splendido Hotel

Just returned from 4 days at this hotel and cannot decide whether to say i was dissapointed or not. We have been before but only for lunch and ever since it has been on our wish list to stay there. The setting is truly spectacular and the hotel is lovely. Our room was very nice facing the sea and well presented. The Splendido has to be one of the most beautiful hotels anywhere....exquisitely set on a hillside overlooking the ocean, operatic in it's visual drama. The architecture, gardens, views, setting, etc are incomparable. The staff is very friendly and courteous. My problems were with the efficiency levels of the staff, and the food. Certain modern amenities have to be expected in a hotel of this stature and at $ 1,000 per night, a functioning computer with web access is not too much to ask for. Everyone talks about this as the preeminent hotel in Portofino, but it is not that exceptional

This is one of the best hotels in the world, with amazing views, fantastic food and incredible treatment from the staff. If ever a hotel deserved the 5 star rating it"s this one. My wife and I were amazed staying at this place it is trully THE BEST OF THE BEST!!

The food was fantastic, pizza by the pool was outstanding - thin crust and such fresh ingredients. The service was unbelievable, with live music by the staff in the piano bar after hours. Our room was gorgeous, namely the view of the Mediterrian/Portofino. Slightly old fashioned, but so charming. It was the most spectacular trip we have ever been on. It's a don't miss!

This was our first time staying at this hotel and from reading other reviews we were prepared for our room to be on the small side which indeed it was. The room had a fantastic view over Portifino's coast but was very small and had no balcony. The room just fitted in the double bed and had a small bathroom though all was very clean if a little in need of an update. The pool was fantastic but the sunbeds are very close together. My daughter and I spent two of the most wonderful nights of our trip to Italy this past spring at the Hotel Splendido in the adorable fishing village of Portofino. No detail was left undone at this most beautiful of Orient Express hotels! From the welcoming drinks in the lovely reception area, to the georgously furnished suite with remote pop-up TV, to the breathtaking view from our flowering balcony, all was perfect. Of course, it's very expensive, but if I ever wanted to feel like a "princess in fairy-land" for a few nights, this was it!
