" the best holiday "

olla, we are just back from the best negresco as a family our 2 year old son, myself, partner and grandfather. the accomodation is superb, the view from the hotel is breath taking, it over looks the sea and that's just from reception! yes there is a lot of diffent nationaltys at this hotel but they are very pleasant people who made a fuss of children. we had a double room which myself and partner and son stayed in, there was more than enough space for us to sleep in. cleaned every day of the week mainly around 11 in the morning. we didnt get a sea view but we did over look the front of the hotel which was so peaceful so no loss there! We went half board and got our breakfast(7-11am) and dinner(7-11pm). the food its self was fantastic more than enough for any one to eat. it was catered to suit all people, anyone to complain about it must be mad as it was a different meal every night and ranged from starter-main-pudding. and obviously the spainish food is a little different from the english food so it will taste a little differnt but still great!there is entertainment at night but we choose to go to the other part of cap salou as we found a great wee bar that was catered towards children it had bouncy castle, trampolines musical rides and also had delicious coffee!we went there every morning after the beach just to have that cup of coffee. the pool facilties were good but not for children under 4 but... why go to a swimming pool when there is a fantastic golden beach right on the door step of the hotel where your child will have the most wonderful time running round the beach and is safe, the water is so shallow you can walk right into the sea and still its only up to your knees, it also has kiosks to suit any one for ice cream to a pint of "san miguel"! you can also rent the paddle boats for 15euros for 1 hour. there is a handy bus stop at the top of the road which all buses go to salou town and La Pineda and various other places, and is only a cheap bus fair of 1.50 euro each. also there is a 10 minute walkway into salou town its self which is great if you fancy a nice relaxing walk. i would definately recommend going to La Pineda for the day and it is like salou town but without the hustle and bustle of people handing out leaflets telling you where to go and eat etc. As for our rep he was great he got us our portaventura tickets with a complemintary free day pass too. which only cost 44euros each for adults and free for under 5 year olds. a tip would be go on the bus to the theme park at 9.30am get there for 10am when it opens. no queing and you will defiantely get on the rides at least 2 or 3 times in a row. we went on the furius baco twice. no queues at all. but dont go on the saturday its horrendious for the queues! and that was just trying to get into the park! we will definately be going back to this resort and this fabulous hotel and its breath taking scenery. thanks negresco for a wonderful holiday! adios!

" Good Relaxing Holiday "

We stayed with our two teenage sons before the busy school holidays. Great to relax lovely view out to sea but all rooms with sea views reserved for the spanish. Rooms very clean and quite modern but not massive. Food very good. The problem for us was the swimming pool my husband got a bad ear infection when we were on holiday. Two days after returning home my
son became quite ill. Bad enough to take him to hospital. My husband has since become
ill which we are pretty certain it was from the pool. Important to check that it is being cleaned and the filter system is working. We did not see it cleaned when we were there. Toilets not user friendly for children using the pool. Apart from the pool overall we had a lovely holiday excellent value and we went on a late booking. Problem with getting suitcases from bus stop is not very good. We travelled on the buses and taxis. If there is four of you it is as cheap to go by taxi to the waterpark and into salou. Our sons went on the pub crawl said it was good night and a way to meet other people. For night life you will need to go into salou and taxi prices are the same price 24hours a day. For a sunbed get down early with your towel or go after lunch around the pool! Entertainment is really geared for families with children. Most people seem to go for a walk in the evening or just have a drink or the terrace which is pleasant to do but can be a bit boring if you were there for two weeks and not have a hire car. But nowhere to park so easier to not have one.

Advice: Daytime very pleasant, weekends go into Salou a variety of differerent entertainment going on.

Activities: A good place to visit for local restaurants and scenic views would be Cambrils with a nice harbour.

" anti british "

just returned from best negresco in cap salou the location was great the sunny weather was brilliant but the staff were so anti british so were the spanish people who were holidaying at the hotel we were on the top floor at the back of the building as the spanish had the best views at the front our room had a load droning sound all night we complained to the unhelpful staff as did a spanish couple the day after us we were told the hotel was full and yet they found a room for the spanish couple and we had to wait five days before they would move us and that was only because the thompson rep had a word with them we felt so unwelcome which was a shame as the surrounding area was lovely the others got served first at the bars and there towels were never moved off the sun beds but a british couple had theres taken away no the wonder the brits get into fights over there if this hotel keeps going the way it is against the brits they will lose out because only the brits went on excertions and thats the drivers bread and butter

Advice: salou itself is very nice

" never again... "

This is our 2nd time at the hotel. I found the 2nd visit VERY disapointing! The bed was VERY VERY uncomfortable, I could have had a better nights sleep on the floor!!! In the toilet, every time you flushed there was a smell of fuel lingering.
The television channels catered for everbody except the English! And I found that the staff were ignorant and very unhelpful. The hotel receptionists couldn't talk a word of English. The food was o.k but not great (bearable).
As for salou and the spanish people...... I found very arrogant and ignorant. I AM NOT GOING TO SPAIN AGAIN!!!!!! im going somewhere they can understand basic English!!!!!

Advice: DONT BOTHER!

Activities: anywhere away from salou and the hotel!

" Best Negresco "

You can't fault the location with a great choice of pool side or beach. Everything is so nearby. The beach is particularly good for swimming (shallow bay) and crabbing on the rocks. Beautiful sand and terrific sand castles can be built. The rooms are comfortable, wonderful sea views and very friendly staff. Regrettably though there are significant faults so far this year. Bus access is now restricted with a requirement that you have to walk with all your luggage to the nearest bus stop some 300 metres away. The hotel seem powerless to resolve this and have shown little interest. Suprisingly Thomson's too seem powerless to ensure their appointed bus company comply with the door to door service. really takes the shine off what should be a relly terrific venue for a relaxing holiday

" The hotel is situated in Cap Salou at... "

The hotel is situated in Cap Salou at the end of a road next to Llarga beach. There was no parking at the hotel for our car so you have to go across to the Punta Dorada and pay 15 Euros a day!! To use their underground car park. There is parking out on the street but never came across a space the whole week we were there.

The reception area was big and clean and the receptionist seemed friendly. I had emailed the hotel prior to arrival and had requested a sea view room which we got. The room had two double beds pushed together and was very small for two adults and two children, some of other rooms were bigger when we walked past and peeked in. We had a lovely sea view from our balcony.

The restaurant is located at the bottom of the hotel. Sometimes the lift works, sometimes it doesn’t so we had the carry the buggy down most days. You are shown to your table by a welcoming man, drinks are expensive. The food was not very good, I walked round the restaurant three times and couldn't find much I liked, most things were unidentifiable, I queued ages for some grill steaks thing that were being cooked and the guy before me in the queue took all of them but after noticing the chef cooking these items of food had enough sweat dripping off him to fill a pool and was doing nothing to stop it going onto the food I am glad the other people got them LOL. We ate out every night after that. The staff hover round your table waiting to take your plate and we got shouted at for sitting in the wrong place one morning. Breakfast was ok, some of the pastries were a bit stale some mornings and there were these things that resembled donuts that crumbled in your hand when you pressed on them due to being left out all week. The guests at the hotel were a mixture of French, Spanish and Russian, very few brits. So plenty of barging in and no queuing.

The pool area

Beds available until 9.30 most morning, same old story people leave towels on the beds all day and disappear out all day. I never seen the pool cleaned all week, in fact if you look closely you can see dirt on the bottom of the 2 pools and dirt in all the grill areas around the pool. The only time the area around the pool was cleaned was when they were anticipating a storm they rearannnged all the beds so the rain could clean the area.

The children's play area was a joke it was disgustingly filthy and tons of glass in the gravel, really really poor.

In the games room there were bare wires hanging out of the walls and blood on the walls.

Entertainment was geared towards the Spanish, which is fine as you are in Spain after all.

The hotel was about a 30 min slow walk into Salou. A taxi is about 8 Euros, the mini train was 7 Euros for two adults and 2 children. Bus stop at the top of the road. Avoid eating in the Knights Inn round the corner food was awful, some more restaurants in Cap Salou but never tried any, looked a bit of a dive, in fact the whole of Salou was dirty and disgusting.

The hotel has recently been upgraded to a four star, I think I would struggle to give it 2.

Also they leave the pool open all night, doesn’t close at 7 like they say, so if you fancied a quiet night you have kids screaming and diving in the pool until early hours. Also pets seemed to be allowed, they had a cat in the room next to us.

" This was a return visit from one 4... "

This was a return visit from one 4 years ago and indeed is the first time we (4 adults but inc 2 just out of teens adults) ahave ever returned to the same hotel/resort. We were disapointed however that there was no longer any piano bar as it was nice to go and relax after dinner with a coffee and listen to the piano player each evening. Also they have refurbished the rooms and although much better than 4 years ago they have installed room safes at 18 euros a week, yes 18! (need to reduce this!) They are bidding to be a 4 star hotel but small things like these two items do not bode well. The food was as good as 4 years ago though and for those reviewers who think it was not very good they must only go to 5 star hotels with silver service! It was hot, where necessary, plenty of it and great variety with a different main dish every evening. Staff were great and helpful and there was entertainment for the children each day with a round up each evening with certificates etc. Main entertainment later on though could perhaps have been slightly better but being a holiday resort people do go out so the audience was never huge so big cost acts not perhaps viable? Pool was clean and a lifeguard on duty each day (automatic cleaning by the way via the filtration system and indeed they shut the pool some mornings as it was too cloudy!) between stated hours. Beach was only a few minutes away and Salou itself a 15 min walk down the 'new' walkway which was only being built when we last visited or take the bus or trolley train. Port Aventurer is a must although Cariba Water Park is perhaps a miss as it is not a patch on Aquapolis just near La Pineda down the road which is bigger and better. Thomson staff great and able to answer all questions. All in all a great time and we will return some time in the future.

" This was one of the best hotels that... "

This was one of the best hotels that I have stayed in so far! The room and hotel were kept very clean, the staff were very polite, friendly and helpful, especially the dining staff. The food was very good aswell, there was a variety of different foods available and you can always find something suitable to your liking. There is entertainment on every night in the bar which was very good, this included live music, magic shows, flamenco and boys vs. girls (this show was the most entertaining of all).
Our room was situated at the back of the hotel so we didn't have the amazing sea views, however we did have a good view of the Platja Llarga (which is the walkway along the beach that takes you into Salou Centre) and partly a view of the sea. The location of the hotel isn't the best, there is only one shop across the street and a bar (Knights Inn - very good for food) and another shop around the corner on the way into La Pineda. However the beach is right beside the hotel and Salou Centre (which is where all the bars, cafes, restaurants, shops, amusements and the main beach are situated) is only a 15 minute walk away along the Platja Llarga. There are two bus stops across the street beside the shop, one which takes you into Salou Centre, Port Aventura and the other that takes you to La Pineda and Barcelona (the buses come regularly - about every 10/15 minutes). At these bus stops you can also take the train into Salou, Port Aventura and La Pineda, it is very enjoyable however it is slightly dearer than the buses.
I highly recommend that you go to Port Aventura for at least two days during your stay as it is an amazing theme park and also venture into La Pineda for the day. I also recommend that you take a day trip to Barcelona and see the sites or go shopping as it is an amazing day trip and it really makes your holiday!!
Overall this hotel is great to stay in, it has met all of my needs and I will definitley return to it in the near future! I highly recommed it! :)

" very disappointed. food very... "

very disappointed. food very boring, not a lot of choice and usually cold. Not enough room around pool for the amount of people staying at hotel. We had a very small room, with a very large bed had to climb over bed to get across room and balcony did not get any sun anytime of the day. Not a lot happening around the hotel but a pleasant 20min walk into Salou. If we had not had brilliant weather it would have been a very poor holiday.
will not be going back

" The room was comfortable and kept... "

The room was comfortable and kept clean on a daily basis, the view from the balcony was fantastic over looking the beach, which was brilliant. The pool at the hotel appeared to be clean, however, this wasn't cleaned during the 11 days we spent there and certainly contributed to the ear infection my daughter got.
Food wise................ not great, infact awful, however the snack bar by the pool provided great snacks at quite reasonable prices.
Finally the entertainment...... the reps and some outside entertainers did their best but the standard was very poor and I feel the hotel should certainly invest in a better standard of entertainment for the guests which should include entertainment for people over the age of 8 years old!

" I decided to book a last minute... "

I decided to book a last minute holiday and take my mum away, I am in my late 20's and Mum in her late 40's. Reading some of the mixed reviews I was a little concerned after booking Hotel Negresco. However on our arrival I was somewhat impressed, the hotel was very clean and presentable and the staff very friendly. Our room was a little compact as I ordered a twin room, but very clean with a stunning view.
I could not fault the holiday at all, I enjoyed the location as I wouldnt want to be in the middle of Salou centre! Transport was very accessible with the bus stop located at the top of the road (2 mins walk) to Salou, Barcelona Tarrogana etc, Although I believe such a pretty resort has been spolit by 'The brits abroad bars and resturants' why not embrase the spanish culture.

The hotel its self as i said was very clean and the staff are friendly, plently of food to chose from, although as i only stayed for a week it was good, if any longer I believe it could be very samey!? Whilst we were staying there, the hotel is processing to a 4* although i believe it should stay a 3* they pool was not that big and towards the end of the week a lot of families arrived due to the spanish holidays and the pool became very crowded and on a few occasions had to wait for dinner. Although we didnt take any children, there isnt a lot for them to do and entertainment is very limited for them during the day.

Overall our break was very good and recommonded for all ages.

Top tips: Do try and speak a little spanish, just the basics and girls, take a small 'paperboy style bags', as the area is prone to pick pockets including men

don't believe everthing you read.

we had a fantastic hol 2 children aged 18mnths and 4yrs and they loved it. You get what you pay for - 3 star accom, but 5* food.

down point no inflatables in the main pool just the kids pool which was a little on the small side.

Nice distance from noise etc.. of the main resort. Definatly for familys who want to see there kids and enjoy each others company.

Always clean and reception always helpful.

" Very pleased with the hotel. Room... "

Very pleased with the hotel. Room was clean and tidy; although we faced the front of the hotel we could still see the sea from our balcony. Although peak meal times were busy the staff were very efficient and never had to wait very long.

Good selection of food to suit all tastes, always of a good standard and plenty of it (take advantage of the dinner time wine menu, a really good bottle of white at 5 euros a bottle!).

Pool was clean, never too busy to use. Hotel is about a 20 min. walk from Salou centre, but reception staff were always more than happy to call a taxi if you didn't fancy the walk, again costing between 5-6 euros.

Would certainly stay there again.

" We took a taxi from Reus airport... "

We took a taxi from Reus airport which took us 30mins to get to the hotel, Hotel Negresco Princess. The hotel looked a little tired, but as we entered the reception the sea/pool view blows you away; it was fantastic.

The room itself was basic but it had everything we needed; our sons 15 and 18 had one room and we were further along the corridor. We also hired a fridge which was really cheap.

The meals were all buffet and with plenty of choice which was always being replenished. Used cutlery and plates were soon taken away once used. The waiters/waitresses do not speak much English but work really hard.

Salou is only a 20min walk along the sea front. Salou reminded us of a hotter version of Blackpool; only with palm trees. It was also very busy. There are a lot of hills and steps around the resort. This may be a problem for some people. Transport isn't a problem. We visited Barcelona which also included a tour of the Nou Camp football stadium. We were there for 2hrs which, by the time we got into the city, didn’t give you enough time for site seeing.

We arranged all our own activities ourselves. At the top of the road you can hop onto a ‘Plana’ bus, which took you everywhere. They do however get really busy. Aquapolis Water Park is in La Pineda. We spent all day there and it was worth the money (same price as Caribe Water Park, but larger). There are no towels to hire. Also 'dressing rooms' are lockers and are to hire. We had 7day passes to Portaventura; we only spent two days there. Keep in mind on some rides you can be queuing for half an hour. There is a firework display at 11.45pm.

Cambrils is a beautiful harbour resort which has lots of shops and sea front cafés. This is 30mins away from Cap Salou via bus. Close to the hotel is English run bar/restaurant; Knights Inn which features an English menu. If you walk further into Cap Salou, you will find a chemist and Supermarket which sells fresh milk. I found a lot of the shops sold UHT milk.

We had a fantastic time at the Negresco Princess. There were lots to do; table tennis, darts, and pool, so our teens didn’t get bored. I must say the swimming pool was absolutely freezing.

Towels were always put over 'reserved' sun beds first thing in the morning. You can hire sun beds etc on the nearby beach. The room wasn’t cleaned as well as I would have liked but it was satisfactory. The noise from other guests was unbelievable, walls are thin and floors are tiled. You could hear people talking at 3 in the morning; no consideration. There seemed to be a high proportion of Russian tourists.

Over all we would definitely visit Negresco again........one day.
