1st coach trip
Have just returned from a 4 night stay in Claymore Hotel - first trip with National Holidays. Good Points: beautiful setting, enjoyed day trips - very scenic and informative coach drivers. Bad Points: although the hotel staff were very obliging the hotel itself seriously needs updating. The rooms were very small with basic furnishings. I was there with my sister who had had recent hip surgery. We DID get a groundfloor room with walk in shower (which was a bonus) but the shower room was small, difficulty getting in and out, water temperature almost scalding and difficult to alter. The carpet in the main part of bedroom was ill fitting, about 10 cm short of the wall and rucked in some places, making it a potential fall hazard. One of the matresses had a large dip in it, making sleeping uncomfortable. There were no 'extras' that you usually get in hotels (apart from tea/coffee) such as shower gel/shampoo, no phone in room (what if you want to contact reception in an emergency?). Storage heaters became cold through the night. Edging strips missing from the tiny bedside cabinet. And then there was the food - pretty awful really - all the vegetables were well overcooked (probably frozen) - cheeseboard was all pre-wrapped tiny pieces with 3 grapes, 2 tiny pieces of celery and a couple of crackers. The fruit was bruised and past its best. And the porridge was awful!! How can you not make decent porridge, especially in Scotland!!? I do understand that we didn't pay a fortune for 4 nights (150 pounds) but, even when cooking on a budget, the food could have been much better. Personally, I would rather not have a free bar and have better food. The 'entertainment' was also grim - OK if you like Kareoke and bingo - we did enjoy the Scottish Dancers but, apart from that - no thanks!! Not sure if I will ever do another coach trip as first impressions not good.....
Views to die for
Stayed for 5 days as part of a National holidays Coach tours. The snow was falling on arrival and the views were truly spectacular. Our room overlooked the loch and was warm and comfortable despite being dated and need of a refurb. No shower was a negative for me. Food was well presented but the portions are not great, plus some of the serving staff need a crash course in customer service. Entertainment ok and the free bar helps. Arrorchar is a wonderful scenic place and there are lots of walks to do plus mountains to climb for the more energenic. The area is absolutely stunning if you like your scenery. I will have no qualms about returning or reccomending this trip to others
Birthday surprise
Just spent 5 wonderful days at the Claymore Hotel. Booked it as a surprise birthday treat for my partner and the staff all went out of their way to make it special. The staff are polite and helpful, the hotel perfectly clean, and the meals were splendid. The views were fantastic and the layout of the hotel has been well thought out, with seperate areas for relaxing, entertainment etc. All in all this is a perfect hotel for a relaxing break. In our case, thankfully it is not a hotel for children, but older travellers will certainly enjoy it. Very little to do in the area so transport is essential, but plenty of scenic walks and we were told it was a popular place for hill walking. All involved helped to make this a real birthday to remember for all the right reasons. Wish we could have stayed longer but we would certainly plan to return.
very friendly
As a single traveller , found all the staff very friendly..Travelled with National Holidays .very effecient and thank you to David the coach driver . The food was really nice. The free bar helped.... massive queue but as other people have said Norbet was very good and soon got the queues down. Beautiful scenery.very enjoyable five days.
Well worth a visit!!
Just returned from a five day stay here as part of a National Holidays party. What a wonderful time we had!! Staff were very polite and efficient; hotel was very clean; food was excellent; and the evening entertainment was wonderful. The view from our hotel room couldn't have been better, lovely view of Long Long. Couldn't fault anything. We will certainly be returning in the future.
great views
stayed for 3 nights on coach tour from Manchester, our room had a great view of loch long, the room was adequate with on suite bathroom no shower, the room could have done with an upgrade and the carpet was quite stained in parts, the dining room was ok the food pretty average, there was a free bar for three hours each night and some entertainment in the room facing the bar but you had to get in early after dinner if you wanted a seat,I think most of the clientel were like ourselves on coach trips, all up for dinnner bed and breakfast, a free bar each night and a trip out on the coach each day with transport to and from Manchester i'd say for 150 quid it's a good deal, maybe a clean of the carpets would help :) Steve.
love the loch.
Recently returned from this 4 day break from this hotel , and would have to say what a supberb value for money holiday it was.The hotel was very obliging and room was clean and well supplied with amenities, the food was very good and the free bar was well operated.I would certainly go on further holidays with National holidays in the future. and all for £150. marie in stretford
Truly awful
We stayed here for two nights and it was like being on a school trip! The rooms are horrendous, dirty, filthy carpets that made me cringe when I even thought of having to walk on them. Bedding smelt fusty and not clean, I didn't even dare take a peek at the pillows under the pillowcase as I just knew they would be disgusting and then I wouldn't be able to sleep!! The best thing about this hotel is the surrounding area which is beautiful but please don't waste your money by staying here.
Claymore Hotel
We arrived at the hotel, check in was swift. All the hotel staff we met were friendly & efficient. The only downside to this hotel where the rooms. In general all the hotel needed updating, there was a smell of damp in the bathrooms bed I had needed replacing. You had to be in the entertainments room early or you couldn't find a seat. The bar staff excellent an orderly line formed for the bar so no pushing in before your time! All in all good value for money, but definitely a tired looking hotel.
Excelent value for money
Just got back from a 4 day stay in The Claymore Hotel and I have got to say I was very pleasantly surprised. The reception staff were efficient and I had my room key within seconds. The room could only be described as tired and basic but it was clean and the bed, comfortable. We only had a bath in our ensuite - no shower, which was a bit of a let down but there was always plenty of hot water. The restaurant was busy but as you were allocated a table on arrival in the hotel you always knew where to sit, so no queueing at the door. Our waitress was called Ae and she was so efficient and friendly, as were all the staff I came across. I think the only thing the management had overlooked was the lack of seating in the entertainment hall on a night, so you had to finish your meal early to be sure of getting a seat. The free bar was exactly that, with a good selection of branded alcoholic drinks - all free from 7.30 til 10.30!!! This again was run very efficiently with guests having to queue only a few moments. All in all I think this holiday is great value for money and would have no hesitation in going again.
