Just got back from a National Holidays Scotland inclusive with Mike the Driver from the Hull area. quite a few pick ups on the way, we were picked up at 7.10am in Beverley, and we picked up in Cottingham, Hull, Hessle, Elloughton, Brough & Goole, so quite a few, but the coach is comfy, with a loo. Stops are frequent, and you get enough time for a lunch, arriving in Arrochar about 5pm. we had a great loch view room, a bath, which was a little fiddly for washing hair, but the hotel had lots of new shower trays in the lobby, so I presume they are slowly renovating the rooms. the food was great-we are veggie, and had 2 choices per evening-salad or -1 night was veggie chilli, another a feta crown, and breakfasts had veggie sausages too-my eggs were cooked to perfection every time.

The bar was offering Worthington's creamflow bitter, Carlsberg lager, grants whisky, lambs navy rum, juices, lemonades & diet varieties. Timing was strict, but the queue went quickly, as no money changes hands.

Entertainment was not to my taste-singers & bingo every night-more your ballads & 60's songs-only 1 Scottish dancing medley was heard!

Each days tours take you out from 9.15 to 5pm. We stayed off the coach 1 day to climb the Cobbler mountain-well worth it-but bring the proper equipment-boots etc to do that.

The views are to die for, and there are plenty of shops nearby for cigarettes, sweets, sandwiches etc. there are also a few restaurants, a chippie, and 3 pubs around too.

Mike the driver is very well informed, and will look after you all the time. If you go say hello to Rogan & Josh, the resident very friendly Ginger Cats.

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Claymore Hotel booking via National Holidays. I took him as a suprise for his birthday as he had always wanted to go to Scotland and we found the whole package thoroughly enjoyable.

We are both in our early twenties and were a little nervous that the holiday would be catered for the older generation but we found it great! It is what you make of it!

The holiday did get off on a rocky start as the coach had a few problems causing a few delays so we did not arive at the hotel until 6:00pm but as soon as we pulled up the views from the hotel made up for the bad start ten times over!

I had pre-booked the only suite in the hotel as it was a special occasion and although old it was amazing - you could not ask for better views from your room - they were just breathtaking!

The food was not fantastic but more than substantial, the entertainment was good too, but all the better with the free bar! A little overcrowded but that just added to the atmosphere!

Upon leaving we felt like we had been there a lot longer than just 2 nights (In a good way) and would definately go back again! For the money I just can't see how anyone can grumble as I would personally pay just for the views surrounding the hotel!

All in all we had a fantastic time - and would definately return! If you are thinking of going just book and see for yourself - it's not like you will be losing hundreds of pounds! As long as you don't go expecting the Hilton, and are prepared for a basic but lovely hotel with phenomenal views I can personally reassure you, you will not be disappointed!

Happy Holidays!

Having spent a Mid week break at the Claymore Hotel over valentines day, I must comment on how efficient the staff of this hotel were in looking after myself and my wife. The food was also good and the trips included excellent. As a regular coach holiday user I cannot empasise the exellent value of this holiday. The efforts staff made to ensure there guests were happy is commendable. Hotel warm, clean and tidy. Quick service at bar plus exellent show by whiskey mac. Give it a try.

We have just returned from an all inclusive weekend with National Holidays and cannot stress enough how much we enjoyed ourselves. The staff were friendly and efficient, the food was superb and although the room was basic the view from the window more than compensated.

We felt more relaxed than in a long time in our beautiful surroundings, our driver was very knowledgable of the history of places we visited which made them all the more interesting.

The only complaint my husband had was about the lovely jewellrey for sale in reception. it took him a while to catch the moths to put them back in his wallet!!

We would just like to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone who made our break so memorable.

Just come back from a four night stay at The Claymore. We did'nt know what to expect after reading a 50/50 good and bad reviews unfortunately we have to go with the 50% bad. I know we did not pay a fortune but the worst thing for the four of us was the evening meal. The first night everything was luke warm but we gave it the benefit of the doubt and tried again the following evening asking the waiter if we could have it hot this time (i will do my best was the reply) was'nt hot, warm or luke warm but clap cold and on complaining was told the chef had gone, but we spotted him sat in reception and was dumbstruck when confronted. Fortunately for us there was a lovely pub in the village called the Village Inn with a fabulous restaraunt, quite pricey but well worth it. Not one night could we get a seat in the entertainment room or the bar (which was free for 3hrs every night, BEST BIT !!!) everyone seemed to rush through the evening meal so they could charge off and bag all the seats. Thats bad management the hotel must realise there are not going to be enough seats for three or four coach parties of people. Our rooms where very basic but ok for the time we spent in them and the hot water was a bit iffy, sometimes hot sometimes not!!, bed was rock hard (thats where the free bar came in, you could just crash out) and only had a sheet, blanket and outer cover on, so did get a bit nippy. We all thought the lochs and mountains where worth the visit but will definitely give the claymore a miss if we ever get up that way again!!!!!!!!!

Hotel - excellent location, lovely looking building and easy access to the beauty spots.

Staff - friendly and efficient. A lot are eastern European but are fantastic. All staff couldn't do enough for us. Speedy service in the restaurant and bar. We had a problem with the window in our room, but the manager got us a different room straight away.

Rooms - basic but clean and comfortable. Our first room was very basic (223) but the second was much better (415). The staff did say they were slowly working their way through the hotel refurbishing a few rooms at a time.

Food/drink - free bar! Food was fairly good. Small portions but 3 courses. Could do to be a bit more varied though.

Overall - well worth the money we paid, ideal for a short break and would love to go back.

I stayed at the Claymore with my Mam, Grandma, and Aunty, on an all inclusive basis.

We had a excellent time, the entertainment in the evening was excellent, food out of this world, and the service was with a smile.

The accommodation was clean but my only comment would be they need some new carpets as they have been faded by the sunshine in the rooms we stayed in.

All of us (ps I am young 42, but my husband may disagree) never stopped laughing the whole weekend.

We are already planning a return visit, my granny is 83, and it was excellent for her limited walking etc.

I would not hesitate to recommend the Claymore to anybody. Book now you will have fun!!

Regards Sue.

Just returned after three nights at the Claymore Hotel with National Holidays. If you want five star all the way for these prices then go somewhere else!!! Claymote Hotel is a very good hotel for what you are paying, rooms are all clean and tidy, the staff are excellent and the foods is fine.

There is a choice of three items from a different menu each night and the quality was to the price you are paying. The free bar each night is a factor to bear in mind when going to the Claymore, it makes the break seem a lot longer!!

Each day we were taken to a different location and given plenty of time to see the area before moving on. The visit to Inverery was excellent as we had time to visit the the castle and the boat trip of Loch Lomond on the last full day was a perfect end.

Overall 8/10 for Claymore Hotel, 10/10 for the whole National Holiday package for the price.

Four day holiday all inclusive. I read reviews before we went and as I was taking my parents who are 80yrs old and would need a shower instead of a bath, I rang the hotel before the holiday and they were very pleasant and helpful. We got our shower.

The staff are excellent, especially my saviour Mark (head barman), I have a phobia about crane-flies (daddy-long-legs) and Mark made regular appearances to catch and kill or release these nasty things ensuring I could enjoy my evenings in peace. I learned next day he is also afraid of them, but he told me that a clients comfort came first. THANK YOU MARK YOU WERE A STAR.

The food was good, the waiters/waitresses very nice, polite and helpful. The room was clean and well equipped, I wish the bathroom had been a little larger but the shower was fab, better than the one at home.

I would certainly go back again. It was real value for money.

I was looking forward to my stay at the claymore after having read, mostly good reviews about this hotel.

What a let-down. Poor food, poor accommodation.

Don't expect a good night sleep if you get a downstairs room, the noise of people above you walking on loose floorboards is deafening. Other downstairs guests I spoke to told me they had the same problem.

Shower pressure was none existing, if you took the shower off its fixing the water would stop all together.

Food must be set out the night before and warmed up the next day.The two poached eggs I ordered for breakfast could have being used for a tennis match.

Just recently come back from here. Thought it was fantastic! After our long trip up me and my boyfriend went straight to check in and get our keys, staff was friendly and was through checking in very quickly.

Walking up to our room, as soon as we opened the door, we was taken away by our view, Straight on to the loch.

Breakfast and Dinner was fantastic every morning and night, couldn't off asked for friendly service.

Our trips out was fantastic too, our coach driver mike, knew everything he needed to tell us about the areas we was going to.

We got told that there was nothing much to do around the area, but if you do go for walks you will find stuff, few local shops etc.

After some rain we saw a water fall at the other side of the loch, which was beautiful.

Well worth visiting.

My husband and myself have just returned from a wonderful 4 day break at the Claymore Hotel.

On arrival we were given our key and wow what a wonderful room we were given, the Heather Suite, a very clean large room with a wonderful 4 poster bed, plenty of wardrobe space, a large bathroom with a large corner bath. This exceptional room is at the front of the hotel, the view from the bay window was looking right out onto the Loch and the mountain back drop.

The food was very good with a good choice for both breakfast and evening meal. The dining room staff were very efficient and polite, as are all the staff throughout the hotel. Our waiter Norbert was very friendly. He is from Hungary and he speaks very good English, nothing was too much trouble for him. There is entertainment every evening and a free 3 hour bar, the queue for the bar gets quite long but moves down quickly. We had 2 full day trips which included a boat trip on Loch Lomond.

We would recommend the Claymore Hotel and would definitely go back. The journey is long and tiring but well worth it, and the whole holiday is well worth the money.
