Fort D Auvergne Hotel Reviews
" Excellent value hotel. Booked sea... "

Excellent value hotel. Booked sea view/balcony room and luckily got room 24! Superb! Room generally could have been a little cleaner, but important areas eg bathroom ok. Food adequate, varied, sufficient and hot, if a bit rushed at times. Swimming pool great. Staff exceptionally helpful and polite at all times. With no hire car we found the morning walk into St Helier very pleasant and a good way of walking off an excellent breakfast. Buses were frequent, clean and good value with the timetable very easy to follow. Would recommend to couples and families but maybe not for that special occasion.
" After many years of long distance... "

After many years of long distance holidays, I decided to travel to Jersey - less than an hour flying time away. I booked the flights and hotel independently and to be honest found this was the cheapest way.
The Fort D'Avergne hotel on the outskirts of St Helier is situated overlooking the beach and is the perfect base for sightseeing over the whole island. It is not a high-star rating hotel, but I could not fault the hotel or food but it should be noted that some of the rooms are accessible by stairs only - not by lift.
The hotel offers a full booking service for the Tantivy coach tours of the island and they pick you up right outside the door. The "easylink" service buses that tour the island also stop outside the hotel. I was very impressed with most of the attractions on the island - which incidentally is only around 9 miles by 5 miles. I did feel that some of the places did charge a little too much in admission charges, notably Jersey Zoo where there were very few animals actually on view on the day I visited.
Don't miss the Jersey War Tunnels - although a little commercialised nowadays, the old German underground hospital is a "must see". All in all, Jersey offers good value for money - they speak English - and you can still get Duty Free!
