Be prepared
We stayed in this Hotel from the 21st to 28th December 2007. The services of this Hotel were fairly good and the staff was very friendly. Based on the rooms and food, we will rate this Hotel a 3 star. Our rooms had no sea view and the gardens can not meet the Seychelles Hotel standards. The meat and fish that was served with the meals was very poor in standard. The water sports are for free and this is the wright place for water-ski lovers, but not recommended for swimming. The wind blow all day on this side of the island, but we enjoyed it, cause it keep you cool in the heat. My luggage was delayed for four days by SA airways for no reason at all and this caused four unhappy days. Our trip agent was of no assistance with the delayed luggage and we were left on our own. During this time we learned to know that it is not something new that the airways delay your luggage. So my advice will be to carefully plan the packing of your night bag that you bring with you on the flight to be prepared for a luggage delay of 2 to 5 days. Clothes are not cheap on the island since most of the Industries closed and the taste is mostly soft cotton Indian style. When you choose a package, include your drinks, no matter the cost, because if you pay for it separate they are very expensive and a real rip-off. Also bear in mind that the two main restaurants in the resort do not serve lunch and the resort is far from any other facilities. The beauty salon is excellent and the Hammon sauna is free of charge. Never use the Taxi service just outside the resort, they will take you to the nearest clothing factory were they receive commission for your purchases and the prices is scary cause they see you coming as a tourist. Their Taxi fees are also very high. Rather ask the Hotel staff to order you a Taxi. The Resort Boutique supply sun tan lotions, mostly soft cotton Indian style cloths and a few odds and ends, but there is not really any island souvenirs to buy for your family and friends at home.
Ripped Off In Mauritius
3 star hotel at a 4 star price. Just returned from this resort and felt obliged to subscribe to this site to let you all know about our experience. At a cost of just under £10,000 I spent two weeks at this resort with my wife and two children. The room on the beach was pleasant once you had become accustomed to the the smell of mould in the rooms (It was the smell of old wooden furniture). However, this was easily overcome by opening the patio doors which takes you directly on to the man made beach. I would recommend that you take shoes with you to walk on the beach and if you dare enter the sea you will also need them to provide protection from sea urchins, rock fish and the odd sanitary towel lying on the sea bed. Most water sports were free if you take the 'all inclusive' option and the beach bar was o.k. as long as you remember to use those shoes. An alternative is to take plenty of plasters with you. By the way this is the only hotel resort I have ever visited that has umbrella's in the rooms! The hotel was in my opinion of average quality and the food was very below average. As far as the staff were concerned I would agree with other comments on this site. They need a good kick up the backside. It takes about 20 minutes to get a drink so I would recommend that you make a double order when you eventually get served, but don't forget you only have the 'all inclusive' option from 11am to 11pm (presumably this is to ensure that we all go to bed and are up in time for the school dinners the next day). Most of the beach hawkers were pleasant but would give you the odd offensive remark if you didn't buy from them. The hotel brochure provides details of taxi costs to many to the excursions available. We tried a few but found that the taxi drivers appeared to work on a commission to take you to various places. If you walk along the road a little way you will find the taxi cost falls considerably. We took trips to The capital The nature park The Lion park The Factory shop We enjoyed all the excursions with the exception of the Factory Shop. On arrival we were surrounded by 7 or 8 staff and pressured in to purchasing merchandise. The intention of our trip was to buy a couple of made to measure suits. The suits eventually arrived but I think I could have done a better job myself. If your planning a trip to the Factory Shop - DON'T. I have travelled to many locations throughout the world but have never experienced a holiday like this one before. If your looking for a £6,000 holiday for four at a £10,000 price tag Preskil is the place for you. Alternatively, Try Sun Island resort at the Maldives. This is definately not a beach resort I will be returning to. Booked with First Choice
excellent beach resort
We have just returned from a two week holiday in this resort and found it to be an excellent and very relaxing stay.We have never been to the Island before. The resort was beyond our wildest dreams, from the reception you get on arrival to leaving i have never had an experience like it. We had upgraded to a beach penthouse before arrival and we were breathless when we were shown to it, it overlooked the bay and Lion mountain ... It is very close to the airport but that does not interfere with this lovely location. There was lots to do and see, from water aerobics in the morning to volleyball in the late afternoon,or just being on the beach, after two weeks we still hadn't got round to doing everything. We would recommed the Cat cruise up the coast, a full day out but well worth it. The staff, without exception were fantastic, always friendly and smiling and they could not do enough for you, the rooms were kept immaculately clean, the reception staff were great, any requests were dealt with very quickly and cheerfully, it was a very well run and maintained resort, very professional.A very nice touch, which i had never seen before, was a management cocktail night, free cocktails on the beach and meeting other guests a great way to break the ice. I know the food has come in for a bit of a knock looking at some reviews before we went, but we found the buffet no problems at all, i have no complaints, there were theme nights, chinese night, spice night etc so it wasn't the same fare every night, personally it did get a bit tiring late into the second week but for varietys sake there are two other restaurants in the complex, Charkas and Spices and for a small suppliment ( we were half board) you can dine there, you would not be dissapointed with either of them. We got out and about the island a lot, the first time we thought we'd try a taxi and were taken straight to a factory shop in Rose Belle by the driver ... we had expected this and despite promising ourselves we would buy anything we did, still it didn't do any harm, the driver ( honour satisfied and commision obtained} took us around the island for the rest of the day and he was an excellent guide in the process, for 1500 rupees, around £25, very cheap. We cant find anything to gripe about, we loved our stay and we were both sorry to go, we have travelled a lot together in our time and Le Preskil was an experience we will both never forget, if you've booked to go and are reading this have no doubts ... you'll love it!
Average Resort in Mauritius
My husband and I spent eight nights at the Le Preskil Beach Resort in October 2007 in a Standard room. We booked this holiday last minute, and as it was our most expensive holiday to date, we were expecting quite a lot from our stay here. On our arrival at the hotel, we were met by a member of staff, who offered us towels to freshen up with, and once we were inside the reception area, we were served a cool drink, which was a nice welcoming touch. Our room was on the second floor, and while it was clean and reasonably well decorated, we both felt a little let down, as it was nowhere near as nice as other hotels we’ve stayed at in other parts of the world - and a lot more expensive. Our balcony was a reasonable size, but felt closed in, and the chairs were very uncomfortable. The bathroom was also a little sparse, and only had a shower. This was no problem for us as a couple, but I can imagine that anyone with small children would struggle with this set up. The food at this hotel is of average quality, and is served buffet style in the main restaurant. There is a smart-casual dress code for dinner, which we were not aware of before we arrived, which means no shorts or sportswear (smart jeans are acceptable). I would advise anyone not staying All Inclusive to beware the cost of alcoholic drinks at dinner. We weren’t that bothered about having wine or beer with our evening meal, and instead ordered a bottle of water, which only costs 1 Euro. If you do want to buy alcohol or snacks take a short walk to the local Supermarket, where a Phoenix beer will only cost you 30p!! If you decide to walk to either the Supermarket or into Mahebourg be prepared to be approached by some of the locals who will try and strike up a conversation with you in order to try and sell you things. On one occasion we were approached by a local man; and after we showed no interest in buying any of the cheap jewellery he was selling, he called us racist, and we ended up having to cross the street to get away from him. One of the good aspects of staying at Le Preskil was its location; being situated on its own small peninsula. While the beach itself is fairly small, it is very clean and there are plenty of sun lounges and water sports equipment available, which are all free. My husband and I went kayaking twice during our stay, on both occasions kayaking the short distance to Ile aux Aigrettes, which is a small island nature reserve opposite the hotel. The water surrounding the hotel is very clear and shallow, which makes it ideal for water sports and swimming. The only negative aspect regarding the beach is that it is not private, although we only saw a few local people there during our stay, and were never approached by anyone. Despite some of our misgivings regarding Le Preskil, I think this is a reasonable resort to stay at if you are planning a holiday to Mauritius, although there may be better alternatives available for the same price. All the staff we had dealings with during our stay were polite and helpful, and its location (ten minutes drive from the airport) is ideal if you are leaving on a morning flight. I would recommend Le Preskil Beach Resort to anyone who is looking to stay at an average resort in a good location, with plenty of water sports activities on site.
Convenient to the Airport
I stayed here in October, 2007 and agree with other’s comments about the service. Waiters would come and then disappear. Another would appear and ask for your order again. We learned after the first night to order the wine and wait until it arrived some time later and after perhaps a second request before going to the buffet table. Other service, however, was very good. Our welcome greeting and drink were very pleasant. We were not fortunate to be upgraded or to be given a renovated room and our “lagoon view” room (you could see a small bit of blue behind the units in front of us) was older and fairly small with a small TV and very old shower. As mentioned, a principal advantage is that it is close to the airport. However, the directions to the hotel do need improving as we ended up in Mahebourg (a traffic nightmare) and had to double back. We missed a turn to the right not too far after you leave the main highway which was not marked (Or I missed it). If you find it, the resort is amazingly close. It was windy and rainy when we were there, but I could see the beach would be lovely in the right weather. Despite my previous comments, I think this is a quite reasonable stop over for a few days for someone passing through Mauritius. And it should be taken into account that my experience was very different from those who took the side trips which seem to be generally well regarded.
Good hotel, close to airport
Originally booked 1 night stay as we did not want to drive far the day we landed. Pleasantly surprised by size of room, food and facilities. We came back at the end of our 11 day honeymoon as the last hotel we had booked was dire ( Trou aux Biches). The last 3 days were great and we really enjoyed Le Preskil. Would reccomend it as a base to discover the island as it is close to the airport ( as a treat, got to Beau Rivage for a night or two!)
Absolutely Stunning!
We have just returned from our honeymoon in Mauritius. We stayed for 4 nights at the Le Preskil Beach Resort. We found everything about our stay there absolutely lovely. The beach was stunning, the hotel over all amazing, and is truly a little piece of heaven. We stayed in a honeymoon suite which was decorated beautifully and our friendly valet would clean our room every morning and evening. We found all the staff to be incredibly helpful and efficient. Apart from some who do battle slightly speaking proper English. But all round the reception staff to the waiters were all equally good. Our holiday package included breakfast and supper. However we did not take the all inclusive package which I would've recommended as drinks are rather expensive. A tip to try the local beer called "Phoenix", my husband got addicted to it while at the hotel and even brought some back home to South Africa for everyone to taste. The breakfasts were good, with quite a large variety, however after the third morning it did become a bit bland. The dinners were lovely, with a different theme every night, and different entertainment was provided each night such as singers and local mauritian dancers which we found extremely entertaining. The resort itself had so much to do that we found ourselves not wanting to leave to do any other touring. However the one day Le Preskil did provide us with a taxi driver who took us around the whole day to different tourist attractions, which only cost us about 2000 rupees. All water sports were included in our package, and we found the equipment to be well looked after. We took a glass bottom boat trip the one day where we were able to snorkel and admire the coral. Our boat driver from the hotel was again very friendly and answered everyones questions. The hotel has a lovely spa where we were treated to a complimentary massage which was very relaxing. Our weather was good, very warm with only the evenings getting cool. The bar at the hotel as well as the Tapas restaurant made a lovely place to have lunch and the fried fish we had at the bar was divine, with most places serving large portions. Overall I would really recommend Le Preskil Beach Resort it sets an extremely high standard and we would love to return again next year.
Not a bad hotel, not a great winter location
My partner and I stayed at the Preskil for one night, more or less in transit to Reunion Island in July. We arrived early in the morning and the hotel made a very impressive start with a quick and easy check-in and the offer of breakfast, which surprised me as we had not stayed there the night before. Breakfast was an extensive buffet and awful coffee that must have been standing around for a while, as coffee the next morning was fine. We had booked a lagoon view (standard) room and were given a lagoon honeymoon room, which may or may not have been an upgrade – there seemed to be far more of these than would be likely to be needed for honeymooners. It had a four-poster king size bed and was an attractive room with a pleasant view. The bathroom was partially open to the room with a separate toilet and large shower. We couldn’t access the mini-bar, presumably because we were only staying one night. The hotel’s facilities looked very nice and the location would be great in summer, with a good beach. On the day we were there it was quite windy and the water was quite choppy, and I suspect this would usually be the case in winter. Despite the great start I have to concur with the other reviews regarding the service. We had lunch in the bar by the pool and while there seemed to be sufficient staff, they seemed far more interesting in talking to each other than taking our lunch order. It took a long time to be able to place an order and then my partner’s meal came so long before mine that he started to eat it before it became cold and almost finished before mine arrived. The food was OK. Dinner was much better, perhaps because it was self-service! It was an Indian buffet with a large variety and tasty food. The restaurant is very large and a bit like eating in a food hall. The hotel is quite remote. We walked into Mahebourg in the evening but did not find much of interest – quite possibly we were looking in the wrong places. The highlight of the stay was a trip to Ile aux Aigrettes. The hotel staff booked us a place on the dinghy that leaves from Pointe Jerome, five minutes’ walk away, and we were taken on a tour of the island, which is a nature reserve, before being dropped back at the hotel’s jetty. It was well worth doing, and it would be worth staying at the hotel for a night just to do that. Overall, we had a stay that was pleasant rather than amazing. In summer I don’t think it would be a bad place to stay, especially if the service were to improve.
Poor Service in Paradise
Just got back from honeymoon. I was on honeymoon so it was the prefect settings. The Island is beautiful. Our room was a penthouse on the beach so that was great, not sure how the other rooms were. Our view was breathtaking......but The staff in the restaurant needed a good kick up the behind. They'd give you a wine menu then never come back, most of them looked like they wanted to be anywhere else but there. We had one good waitress towards the end and ended up stalking her to make sure we ended up in her section...Diane (keep an eye out). I dropped a potato on the floor by my chair and went to pick it up, a waiter come flying over and told me he'd sort it....he never came back and I had to spend the rest of the night looking at it, not wanting to move it in case he came back....he never did. Think part of it was because most were booked ALLINC so they'd had their money and didn’t feel the need to give good service. We had a good sense of humour so laughed it off and carried on regardless. Kick up a fuss and they are good at sorting problems, think in the end we just decided to have a laugh and enjoy our time. I bought some pearls from a table inside the restaurant, they have people in each night selling bits, which is quiet nice.....until your ears and neck start to swell up as a result in you being told you'd bought silver but actually hadn't! sods! The food is pretty good, if you need some home junk the go to the bar in the day and look at the menu, lovely pizzas. The hotel is well kept and the grounds are good. I'd say the Hotel is a good 4* but the service in the restaurant being 2*. Service in the other parts was very good. Boathouse was good and lots to do, my partner enjoyed sailing and messing about in the water. Do the glass boat trip, but pay the extra or be squashed into a boat with loads of other people. It's well worth paying a little extra, you get a lot more in return. Taxis were great, they kept trying to take us to 'factory shops' we eventually agreed to one as it was raining and we were stuck for something to do....prices were good, but only if you'd buy that sort of thing anyway. You have to be strong when saying no, they don't take offence. One night we went to the Prince Maurice - wow! talk about being treated like a king and queen! the restaurant floated on the water...it was out of this world...expensive, but worth every penny. It's worth booking up day trips, we went looking and found dolphins. We also went quad biking was great fun. We got married at Kakslauttanen, that was magical! Don't get married on the beach with topless fat women watching! we saw one wedding and it looked awful, if you do then do it in a quiet spot.
Great choice
We booked the Preskil with a last minute deal for Easter and were curious about the overall quality as former travelers' reviews were mixed and we consider ourselves to be quite demanding tourists. We were overall very satisfied about the week we spent there. The location is superb: at 10 minutes from the airport, Preskil offers one of the best spot in the Mauritius island, even according to locals we spoke to during our stay. The distant reef and a fronting island create a magnificent and very large light-blue lagoon where swimming, snorkeling, sailing etc..is a daily show. There are four beaches close to each other where to lay and even have some privacy should one wants so. Beach house offers free kayak, sailboats, short-range boat trips and waterskiing. The resort is charming, it looks quite recently renovated and the colonial style that is displayed in their website pictures is exactly what we found there. Rooms' pictures are also very reliable, as far as we could see. In 10 minutes by boat or by bus one can reach Blue Bay that offers another amazing landscape of white sand, crystal clear water and lots of colourful fishes and corals in the natural reserve. In the resort service is quite good from reception, to room cleaning, bars and restaurants. Personnel is always very kind, at times a bit slow but it's part of the island way of life. We asked some specials from the restaurant and our requests were always met with no problem whatsoever. The all-inclusive formula works perfectly and the only hassle is that of signing for every drink even though it will not be billed at checkout. We booked two garden-view rooms: we found them comfortable, nicely furnished with soft colours and handsome wood interiors. The bathroom was rather small and not of the same style, but we did not see it as a problem. All garden, lagoon-view rooms and cottages are one minute from the beach or from the bars. The resort is relatively small, compared to some big hotels elsewhere, so it looks ok for both honeymooners and families looking for relax. Every night there is a different light show with local musicians or dancers followed by some disco time for guests. We enjoyed all shows for their good quality and style. Music and dance solve the problem of entertaining multi-lingual guests from South Africa to Germany and France. The weakest comment on Preskil is on food in the buffet, clearly not at the same level of the rest of the resort quality. Variety changes every day on a different theme, but quality and sometimes choice is average, but it may well be that we have too high expectations on food... We think they need to hire a better chef. In summary Preskil Beach Resort is very good value for money, it appears to be undisputably one of the best and most enjoyable setting in the island. We picked several negative comments from tourists on the return flight as some were disappointed of their resorts for just the things we mostly appreciated in our stay at Preskil.
