all half half - not too good and not too bad either
A bit of a claustrophobic hotel, with heating on full blast, paper walls and only a thin blanket for those of us who prefer to sleep without a sweet smelling heater We called the reception at 10.15pm to ask for help to turn the heaters down but no one picked up the phone so we though the reception closed at 10pm. The following night we were woken up by really drunk swearing neighbpurs at 2.30am. We did not bother to call the reception as no-one had picked up the phone the night before. Just before leaving on Sunday we informed one... more
Absolutely fine....
I have to say that I really liked this Hotel. It has a charm and character that is often devoid in similar places and is very reasonably priced. The view, even in winter, from our seafront facing room, was beautiful and lovely to wake up to. Even though our room was one of the smallest, it still had a great shower room and flat screen TV. The breakfast, which was included in the rate, was generous and of a good quality. The dining room itself is also very nice. All in all, a nice place to stay and I would definately recommend.
Not bad, just nothing special
Stayed at this hotel with colleagues during July 08. The hotel is situated overlooking the estuary, and is easy to find, with a large car park to the rear. It is however, miles away from the town centre. The hotel is split in to two different buildings - the main building with restaurant, reception, bar, and some rooms, and a separate building (across the road leading to the car park) comprising of rooms. The check in process was straight forward and all the staff were polite and efficient. My room was located in the separate... more
Had a lovely room
My boyfriend took me to the Camelia for our anniversary and i was really pleased with his choice. It is in a really nice bit of Southend, away from the chaos of the centre but only a 20 min walk away. I wouldn't want to stay an closer! The hotel does seem to be more of a B&B than a hotel but when we arrived we were told they were upgrading us to a 'suite'. We had booked the executive room. We were shown to a big house next door which has four or five big apartments. Ours had a big lounge with a tv, two sofas, a kitchen and a balcony. It... more
not great at all
I stayed at the Camelia a month or 2 ago with my new wife, it was the first get-away since the honeymoon and so I wanted to get something nice, I booked one of the more expensive rooms with a sea view.... an Exexcutive I think. I called on the way as I had booked a 2.00 check in, and I was running a little late, I was pleased to hear that it would be no problem and that my room was ready for me. I arrived some hour later to check in, and was walked away from at the checking in desk as the lady there told me she had to have a go at... more
