Had an excellent time in Hesperia Bristol Playa in Corralejo. Staff were very friendly, so too were the locals. It is in an ideal place as it is next to the beach and about 400metres away from the heart of Corralejo.
I have gone back to Fuerteventura year after year but this is the first time i have stayed at this hotel. I had read reports about ant problems, I was lucky I guess as I didn't have any unwanted company in my apartment! The maids were very helpful for telling me some of the best places to visit, and they went out of their way to find out times of the local dolphin search boat.
Everything you need at hand in this idyllic quieter location in Corralejo. have booked a weeks stay for 26th February this year!

Having read the previous review a week before we were due to stay at the Bristol Playa I was very concerned as we were travelling with a 6yr old and 4 month old. I contacted by travel agent who in turn contacted the operator who assured me that they were not aware of any problems with the property.... How right they were!!
We had a fabulous time and found the Bristol Playa to be spotless. We had a two bedroom apartment which was serviced 5 days a week. The pool area was always clean and the maintenance people were always around tending the public areas (plants, sweeping etc). All the staff were very polite and friendly and they have a very good hotel run Children’s club. It is 10 mins form the resort centre and has a couple of fantastic local restaurants close by (Avenida & an Argentinian the name i forget)
The resort was a bit quite but it was January, I would definitely go back but maybe in May/June time.

After returning from the bristol playa apartments on 4/1/06, i am not at all surprised by a previous holiday makers comments.
The ant problems were unbelievable, we had to move rooms no fewer than 5 times and had to contend with cockroaches as well!! Our original room constantly gave us brown water(even after running for a considerable amount of time) and again, their laid back attitude was that they could change the boiler in a "few days or so". The entertainment was non-existent, other than a couple of pool tables.
Having booked this holiday 12 months in advance, my family cherished the idea of spending both Christmas and the new year in the sun, but ended up wishing we had endured the snow back in the UK! I’m afraid to say, once bitten, twice shy.
Overall opinion - very, very disappointed.

Superb location. Next to a very quiet natural unfound beach. Short walk to the heart of Corralejo. Great place for bars and restaurants. Go back year after year. Very friendly people. Ideal for single, couples, families and at the right time of year for stag or hen parties.
All year round sunbathing weather and temperature make it an ideal place to go. The staff at all the hotels i have stayed at have been very friendly and pleased to help arrange taxis or tickets for boat trips fishing and other activities, including camel rides! Corralejo is a short ferry ride from Lanzarote and has much to offer.

On arrival we were very impressed. We got to reception and were promptly booked in, friendly staff.
When we arrived at our apartment, we were impressed by the cleanliness and the size of the apartment. However, on going into the bathroom, the floor was covered in ants, there was hundreds of the things and when we looked closer to the kitchen area and patio doors the whole place was crawling with them. Not a nice sight to welcome us. We contacted the reception and after a while a maid came with a rather large can of insect spray. She sprayed the whole area with this toxic stuff and then left, leaving us to clean up the ants and in the process probably gas ourselves. We contacted reception again and they said leave the apartment and wait for a few hours, so far not impressed.
When we got back we thought that the maid or someone would have swept the bodies up, no such luck, the whole place was covered with a layer of black small ants, my partner and I then proceeded to clean up the mess as if we even dared to take shoes off they would have stuck to our feet.
In the morning the whole process had happened again overnight an army of ants had obviously breathed in the remaining spray and died in an instant but they were still laying over the floor areas. The hotel seemed to think that this was a normal process and sprayed every morning so on return from our favourite haunts were greeted with layers of dead insects. I spent most of my holiday sweeping ants and other things so that we could sit and relax.
This hotel seems to except these things as a way of life and that the maid will clean in the morning, but I did not want to have my shower or eat breakfast in a carpet of ants.
Overall the hotel is a nice looking place in a good location to all the places we love to visit (we have been to Corralejo for 5 years now) but we will not be returning there.
Just a final point, maybe at this time of year insects seem to be abound as the pool bar was covered in flies.
Sorry Bristol Playa not good enough!

We have just returned from a weeks stay at the Bristol Playa Apartments. Unfortunately we had two spells of rain during our stay in Corralejo.
We woke up the first morning and stepped out of bed into a large pool of water which extended into the Living and Bathroom Areas. Having then contacted the Reception Staff we were told than 'All' hotels throughout Spain have this problem whenever it rains and we promptly handed a batch of towels to mop up with.
The same problem occurred early evening on the Sunday and fortunately we were in the apartment when we experienced a torrential downpour for about 3/4 of an hour. Again contact was made to Reception and a further two batches of towels were presented to us. We spent the next two hours trying to keep the water at bay by the use of towels, mops, brooms and buckets. The point I am making is that we were not situated on the ground floor but on the first floor level and the problem could be easily solved by using a spirit level when the tiling was laid and secondly installing a threshold under the door to the apartment. Talking to other guests this is not an isolated apartment that has this problem but the Hotel Management seemed to ignore any suggestion of remedy. We now know that this has been ongoing for many years having spoken to somebody who stayed there nine years ago and had exactly the same experiences.
Other than these problems we found the Hotel Staff very
accommodating the general condition was clean and well maintained throughout the week. It is a pity that this matter cannot be rectified because at this moment in time it does not encourage us to book again at the Bristol Playa. Perhaps the Tour Operators should encourage holidaymakers to pack their Wellies during the months of November - February if they plan to stay at the Bristol Playa!!!

Excellent for families and couples a lovely clean hotel with plenty to do, with a short walk away from the main street, which has lots of nice restaurants.
Weather was fantastic and I would definitely recommend a visit to the sand dunes and Los Lobos but not to the main town of Puerto Del Rosario (very boring). I would recommend this holiday to anyone except for single groups.

Travelling as a couple we found this holiday perfect! The apartments were lovely with suitable and well-kept catering facilities. The pool was lovely and seemed very warm to me! Activities arranged for both children and adults seemed to be appreciated and the on site supermarket was very handy.
The resort itself was fairly quite with a nice selection of restaurants, if you avoid the English quarter! Avoid the Mexican restaurant, very disappointing. A definite must is to visit Flag Beach located on the outskirts of the resort (which you will see when travelling from the airport), a beautiful area next to the sand dunes and only 9euro for all day sun beds.
The people all seemed very nice and we hope to visit again one day. Hopefully they will be able to keep the English Pub/Restaurant invasion at bay!

Just got back this morning from an excellant holiday. Looking to book to go back again in June. Would agree that catering services are limited but then we never tried to use them. Plenty of bars and restaurants to use and we enjoyed eating out and practising the lingo! However most people we met wanted to practice their english so we got little chance. Pool is definately freezing at this time of the year but the whole complex was spotless, daily maid service was average and i got the feeling that they tried hard for your arrival, then tailed off until it was time for the next new arrival. Not much to do for kids in the 11- grumpy age if you don't want to pay to keep them occupied. Expect to pay about 15-25 euros/per person for a meal and drinks. Clothes are very expensive, trinkets to bring back are limited. You can get good deals on car hire in the main high street if you can accept a car (safe & roadworthy) that is three or four years old rather than brand new. Expect to pay less than half price of the major rental companies and that includes CDW. We thought that the excursions were expensive and so we done our own thing and made quite a saving but expect to get through some serious money if your planning on a busy holiday rather than a restful one.

On arrival at the apartments we were given a map of where abouts we are staying, we struggled to find the apartment as it was on the second floor on a corner. Once in the apartment we were really impressed at the size and cleanliness of the rooms. The only problem was the size of the catering facilites, very small and basic for a family of 5. The balcony was really big and had a clothes line for drying towels, swimwear and bits of washing (no pegs though), this was over looking the pool and sea.
The other thing was although the pool looked lovely it was freezing and it was salt water.
Staff were not the friendliest but we didn't need them.
Would definately return to these apartments, if we were to ever go to Fuerterventura again.

I was really concerned after reading the reviews by people visiting in December 05. There was no need, the apartments were spotless, cleaned 5 days a week, the pool and surrounding areas were regularly maintained.
We did have a slight problem with some ants, but after spraying them with an insect spray I brushed them up with the dustpan and brush that were in the apartment and they were gone. PROBLEM SOLVED.
I would definitely recommend the Bristol Playa.
