The worst hotel stayed at in...

The worst hotel stayed at in Brighton, we came for to see the famous Brighton pier and the best we got for was the side street, we booked in advance with a confirmation email and what a suprise a real blunder! Managment didn't care and the workers couldn't speak english. I wouldn't recommend anyone to even consider going there. We booked ourselves into the one of the branded hotels, atleast that way we knew the implications.
My advice never go there, unless you want to mistreated.

We had a great stay at the Queen's Hotel. The location is wonderful and we were given a lovely double bedroom with a magnificent view of the sea. The staff were very friendly including a very helpful manager, facilities excellent, and the breakfast was enjoyable.

Well, where do I start? I have been to Brighton before and we loved it, but this is definitely the worst hotel I have ever had the pleasure to stay in. The rooms were dirty and looked as if they needed a good damn clean. The decor was very poor within the hotel and the rooms smell really bad. The maids knocked on our door to clean our room at 8am even though we didn’t need to be out until 11am.
The only one good thing was the breakfast, where the staff were lovely and polite and the food wasn’t bad. Would definitely recommend the restaurant, which you can just walk off the street and use. Overall I think there are better hotels to stay in Brighton.

Well the apparent 'refurbishment'...

Well the apparent 'refurbishment' hasn't made a blind bit of difference. It's the same dirty, dated hotel it always was, just with a few weird shaped cushions thrown in.
Our room was dirty and smelt of smoke; the windows were so filthy we couldn't see if we were facing the sea or not!
Anyway it turned out they had given me and my friend a double instead of a twin so after the hastle of sorting that out we found our new room, which was better than the first but not by much.
Don't be fooled by the website - this hotel is basic, dirty and untidy and just not value for money!
Also, the staff were cold and unwelcoming.

Dec 2007, Mr J Wiley

Very enjoyable stay in the Queens Hotel. The hotel is in a superb location on the seafront with no off road parking.
The twin rooms were nice and good to use, the double room we had was excellent, very modern, and extremely comfortable. All were en-suite.
The staff in the hotel were all well trained and good at their job.
The breakfast was continental buffet and had an excellent selection of items available.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Queens Hotel. The staff were very polite and helpful. We were made to feel very comfortable. We had a family room that was very nice. We had some problems with leaking in our room, but they dealt with it quickly and gave a us a refund. We had dinner one night and it was lovely. We will be staying at the Queens again.

Brighton is a really buzzing and...

Nov 2007, greyhound

Brighton is a really buzzing and exciting resort to visit, and is particularly suitable for a weekend's break. Travelling to Brighton from the London area is easy by road, and also hassle free by train.
Queens Hotel is a medium size hotel on the seafront. It isn't luxurious but clean and comfortable. The breakfast was excellent, well cooked and a wide choice. There was tea and coffee making facilities in the room. Unfortunately, there is no car park, but if you are lucky, as we were, you can sometimes get a space right outside the entrance. It has a comfortable bar area, to have a quiet drink and relax in the evening.
There is so much to do and see in Brighton. Wandering around the Lanes is a really different shopping experience, where you can haggle about prices. The Marina is also excellent for shopping. Visits to the aquarium or the Brighton Pavilion are well worth considering, and a stroll along the seafront and pier is very enjoyable after lunch.
In the evening, after having an excellent dinner at one of the many restaurants in Brighton, you can visit one of the casinos (there are four in Brighton), The Rendezvous in the Marina I can recommend. You can have an excellent meal at the Rendezvous if you prefer to dine later.
There are shows to go to, or for a change you can have an evening at Brighton & Hove Greyhound Stadium.
Weekend breaks in Brighton, especially when you live in the London area with not too
much tiring travelling, can be really refreshing.

What a dump! Shoddy carpet...
3 / 10
Aug 2007, Ms A Jones

What a dump! Shoddy carpet throughout - room and common areas. Fixtures broken or hanging off walls in bathroom (felt like I needed a tetanus shot to use the loo), filthy windows, aloof and suspicious staff; no parking, pool area closed, very cheap and nasty bedroom furniture. The list goes on.
Best part was when we checked out. However, with all that said and done, it seems from what we saw in the flesh, and read online, you just can't get a clean, decent hotel in Brighton at any price. It's not just the hotels that are grungy, but unfortunately the whole city, which was a big surprise given the property boom in the South East. It's very sad, as Brighton, especially the Lanes area, use to be much more up market and better maintained. Hopefully, things will change, but until they do, don't bank on finding anywhere clean or pleasant to stay.

Having visited the Queens Hotel...
2 / 10
Nov 2006, Mrs C Rose

Having visited the Queens Hotel website, I and my husband decided to book a long weekend. Once we had booked the room (a sea view double) and given our card details we went back on the internet and researched Brighton.
It was then when we came across some reviews of the hotel itself, and after reading some awful reviews decided to cancel our booking. However when we tried to do this we were informed we would still have to pay for the first 2 nights and at £85 per night we decided to go and see what it was like for ourselves.
The first problem we had was parking, nobody had informed us there wasn't a car park and it would cost £15 per 24 hours to park the car at the lanes car park, which on the Saturday when we arrived was full.
When we checked in we were asked to pay upfront, slightly unusual we thought for a large hotel. We were then given our key and directions to our room as they didn't have enough staff present to escort us.
We were shocked by the decor and cleanliness of the halls and lifts, it appeared to us nobody had hoovered the hallway, there was liquid on the lift floor and the paintwork was in desperate need of a retouch, not what you expect from a recently refurbished hotel.
The room itself was ok but not worth the money at all, our bathroom was a bit shabby in places, and again paintwork left a lot to be desired.
Breakfast was cold and of limited choice.
We will not be going back!

The room we stayed in was comfortable...
3 / 10
Aug 2006, Miss C Farr

The room we stayed in was comfortable enough but I would have expected a lot more luxury for the price we paid.
The hotel's website states that it is newly refurbished however there are a few noticeable gaps to this refurbishment (which you would not expect when paying these high prices) e.g. grout missing from the bath, carpet threads coming loose around the stairs, no hotel information in the rooms, slap dash painting in the rooms. Also, the heated swimming pool and sauna/steam room were all run down (I didn't even want to sit on the steam room seats) and the changing rooms were very dirty!
Having said that, the hotel is very central so in a great location to explore Brighton and the staff members were all very friendly and helpful.

Ok hotel but don't be fooled by the web site. The Queens Hotel was apparently refurbished recently as it was damaged by fire. You can see that they made an effort but didn't really pull it off.
The room had this fancy headboard which you see in all the photos to try and make the rooms look really classy but that was the only nice part about it and even that had head grease on it from the people before us! Not a nice thing to clean when you first get there! The carpet was thread bare in places and the bathroom was really badly fitted with grout missing etc.
Also, we had to pay for our room up front which was quite annoying and if we ordered anything from the hotel bar, I had to go to reception and put £20 on a card which was then sent to the bar before I could order a drink, again - not really what you expect. Also, the windows in our bedroom were so dirty that you could hardly see through them - really bad. Although it was right on the sea front in January so I wonder if this was from all the salt in the air? Still no excuse really though.
The location however was perfect, right by the town, the lanes and the pier which was great for a city break. All in all we had a great weekend but next time I think I'd spend the extra money and stay in the Thistle next door - looked a lot nicer!
