My wife and I are seasoned travellers and have stayed in hotels in Africa and throughout Europe but have never stayed in a hotel like the Trouville Hotel. The hotel is situated on a steep hill unsuitable for the infirm and elderly. It is situated beside some noisy nightclubs... more

I first visited the Trouville with my parents in the late 1940's and early 1950's. Very 'gentile' then. My wife and I had our honemoon there in 1958. Still the same. We returned recently for a special Brithday treat paid for by one of our daughters and son in law. We read... more

My husband and I (and our dog) stayed at this hotel over Easter. We got a very reasonable deal that included dinner, bed and breakfast for two nights. The staff were helpful and friendly and the food was of a good standard (and plenty of it too!) The pool area was great... more

It's OK
We stayed at Trouville Hotel for just one night. As previous reviews have mentioned the hotel is in a good location and has it's own car park. The rooms are tired and in need of a makeover. if you're looking for a modern hotel then don't stay here. Also the hotel has the most unusual layout with corridors off corridors so it was difficult to find our room sometimes!!!! The breakfast s great and the staff are friendly. One thing to mention is that there were a few stag parties when we stayed so may not be appropriate for a quiet weekend away.
OK If You Like A Brisk Dip In The Pool
We are a family of 5 (2 adults, 3 children)and have just returned from 3 nights stay at this hotel. Found through Teletext. Based on previous reviews and from getting fed up trawling the internet and holiday brochures, decided to 'take a chance'. The hotel itself is ideally situated in Bournemouth, literally just up the road from the Bournemouth International Centre and 2 mins from the town centre and sea front. Large car park in hotel grounds. Hotel itself is halfway up a hill and there is also an entrance direct from the car park which helps. Reception friendly and rooms ready on time - we had 1 triple and one twin - both decent sizes although the decor was a little tired. Carpets new though so they maybe in the throes of a makeover. Bathroom adequate although over bath shower had little oomph too it as we were on second (top) floor plus the hot water problem (see comments below) seemed to affect more than just the swimming pool. Swimming pool was open although their was a typed note on the 'entertainment' board stating that due to a technical problem the heating in the pool was lower than normal - and they can say that again! If you can imagine taking a dip in the sea...and the second day seemed even colder! The saving grace was the jacuzzi which thawed you out (once I worked out how to switch on the bubbles!). I'm presuming this is the same problem referred to by a previous review although it seems amazing for a 3 star hotel to have a problem like this for such a length of time. Staff pleasant and helpful. Breakfast ok but choice not that extensive. Overall the value for money could have been better but have stayed in much worse.
Lovely
Havng read the last comment on this site I was very concerned about staying at the Trouville. However I found that the hotel although one of the older buildings was very clean and all the staff were very polite and curteous. Would recommend to anyone.
Don't Stay Here!!!!
My friend and I stayed at this hotel for a two-night relaxation break - MISTAKE!!!! Very rowdy, rude and vulgar guests making a lot of noise and not being stopped by management. Lots of stag and hen parties obviously encouraged to stay at this hotel. Lift not working, swiming pool not available - told by manager that they had a problem with temperature and no-one could use it. Found out too late that other guests had been using it.Bar ran out of sherry!! Nothing done about noise problem when complaint made - told by EXTREMELY RUDE RECEPTIONIST (only been there a week!) quote "when you take advantage of our cheap rates you should be prepared to accept these things" On looking round Bournemouth there were much better hotels for the same rate (£30 a room)at this time of year so suggest going on speck so that you can see what you are paying for. BUT BEWARE STAG AND HEN PARTIES AT WEEKENDS - Lovely area but definitely the WORST hotel I have ever visited!!!
Good location, friendly staff – mediocre hotel
Found receptionist to be friendly and helpful. Our room was rather warm even though the heating was not on. The weather was about 20 degrees outside so fairly warm, although raining. Only one of the windows would open. The bathroom was fine, and the actual room was satisfactory although wallpaper a bit dirty here and there. The room was a good size. One of the 2 twin beds was very soft. Kettle was full of scale – we dare not use it. Only about 7 TV channels (all English). The leisure facilities were a joke. The Jacuzzi was out of order when we were there, the temperature of the sauna was cooler than the temperature in the pool area. We stood in the sauna laughing that it was so cool in there. The pool was pretty small and because it had a family of 5 in it while we were there, we didn’t even bother trying to have a swim. We spent longer changing into our swimming costumes than we did enjoying the facilities. The leisure facilities really need sprucing up. Breakfast the next morning was fine – until we saw one of the bits of toast had mould on it! Nightlife in Bournemouth was good (we are 2 girls in their 20’s), but not an awful lot to do during the day except shopping.
Good Place to Stay
The Hotel is in a good location and has parking. The Staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast and evening meals were excellent, and very good value. Rooms a little dated, but spacious. Only downside was that the room was next to the main road, so lots of traffic noise. Would definitely stay again.
A Gem of a Hotel
I have just spent 2 nights at this hotel and would recommend it to anyone and everyone. The staff are excellent and we were treated very courteously. The rooms are clean and tidy and definitely at the upper end of the 3 star market. The big seller is the reataurant. The French chef produces exceptional meals and the 3 course evening dinner is not only exceptional value but a gourmet's delight. This is served by very attentive staff (mainly French) who are obviously well trained in silver service. If you are looking for a medium class hotel - go here and make sure you book the evening meal! I'm sure you will agree it is a real treat.
A lovely hotel, with excellent staff
I spent a three night stay here with seven of my friends as part of a golfing holiday in Dorset. Although quite an old facility the hotel was extremely clean and the customer service from all members of staff was exceptional. For a very competitive rate we all had reasonably sized rooms, with breakfast and a very impressive evening meal (three courses). I would definately recommend this hotel to anyone and will certainly be looking to return during the summer when it is a bit warmer!
Wouldn't go back....
I would describe the Trouville as a pretty average hotel. The bedroom and bathroom were fine, although the room got cold at night. Although they state that they are open 24 hours, after returning from a night out, we then had to wait 15 minutes after ringing the bell and telephoning before someone let us in. The breakfast was very extensive and good, and the service was fine from all but one member of staff, who was extremely rude and lacked any customer service skills. With just one person on reception and serving at the bar, the service could be a little slow. The swimming pool was nice but the jaccuzzi wasn't clean at all. I feel that our stay could have been a lot more pleasant and memorable for the right reasons, if they would get a few essential things right, primarily the customer service.
Friendly medium sized hotel
We have stayed at the Trouville hotel on two separate occasions and would happily do so again. The rooms are large and clean. Only negative point is they can be a little on the warm side. Friendly staff and perfectly reasonable restaraunt. Situated in a nice central area of Bournemouth but get your car parking space quick as the car park is a little small. Overall would suggest staying here to anyone.
