I stayed in the hotel in the last weekend of January 2007. All the staff were wonderfully friendly and professional; reception and restaurant staff in particular. We stayed on a dinner and bed'nbreakfast basis and were throughly impressed with the quality of the food and service throughout our stay. I was also very pleased to find a good choice of wines available too (and quality bottled water which makes a nice change). Unfortunately we didn't have the opportunity to the use swimming pool/sauna/steamroom but wished we had made the extra effort because it looked very good; partciularly at the price we paid! Overall it was a brilliant weekend away in a lovely seaside location (just down from the beach) in a very good hotel. We will be going back.
Beach Hotel with great facilities and service
from Nikki04
My boyfriend and I just spent a fantastic night at the Queens Hotel. I cant fault it, the room was lovely, the service was amazing and the pool and sauna / jacuzzi were even better than the one in the 'spa' hotel I stayed at recently. We ate at the hotel before going out and the food was delicious, also helped by the lovely head waiter and waitresses who, despite having a big event next door, were really attentive. It is a 30 second walk to the beach and a short journey into the main town, so a good location as its so quiet. I will definitely be going back this summer.
Regualar Place of Choice to Stay Now
from Layla-TA
I'm a regular visitor to Bournemouth and always find it hard to book a good hotel for a good price. The Queens did just that - it was comfortable and the staff were very helpful. We ate in the hotel restaurant one night and were pleasantly surprised by the service, the food and the entertainment. We'll be making this our regular hotel of choice and would recommend anyone else looking for an excellent standard of place to stay does the same.
Never Again
from DLODRATSAB
Unfortunately I had to both eat and sleep at this hotel. On Saturday 16th December I attended my wife`s companies Christmas party. Our party was approx 50 people and there were also several hundred other guests from various companies. Our table had been laid out for 12, although it would have been tight with 8. The cold prawn starters were brought out and left on a table in the middle of the room for about 30 minutes before being served, the prawns still frozen. My main course was served by 4 different people over about 20 minutes, ensuring it was cold when I ate it. This chaotic, unorganized service continued all evening. Clearly it is very difficult to feed so many people in one go, so do not pack so many in. The standard of service and quality of food in this hotel falls far below anything I have ever experienced before. Our room on the 4th floor was cold as we could not turn on the radiator and although there was not room to swing a cat they had managed to put in a trouser press, although you had to climb over it to get into the bathroom. The staff I came into contact with were cold and uncaring which pretty much summed up the whole terrible experience. So if you are coming to Bournemouth stay anywhere but this terrible excuse for a hotel

I encourage anybody who has a problem with the Queens to at least have the decency to give us a chance to restore faith in our service before getting up on a soap box and sounding off, it is better than reading a anonymous comment like this with no mention of the bedroom number so I can assess the comments!
Where to start... From the comments received we were over subscribed on our attendance to Saturday’s Christmas party night, under these circumstances I think you have been a little harsh on our ability to produce a decent meal, the Queens is renown in Bournemouth for its quality and variety of food served and its service and it is normally only some of the bedrooms that fail to deliver.
I will be the first to admit that I personally believe we struggled to maintain a consistent level of service to all parties, I was aware that certain parties were delayed somewhat in service between courses.
Concerning your room, you will find it was cold because we keep our heating on until 10pm (it neither being economical nor cost effective to have 24-hour heating) and since the party finished about 1am the heating would have been off, we could however, if you had bothered to ask, have provided a heater. The trouser presses are provided in all rooms for our guest convenience you could however have moved it.
Despite your comments and the adverse affect they will have I would ask the fellow who wrote this to drop me a line on manager@queenshotelbournemouth.com
Excellent value for money !!!

My fiancee and I stayed at the Queens hotel on Saturday and had a very pleasent stay. The rooms were clean and the staff were excellent recomending a fantastic restuarant for us on Sat night. Having stayed in Bournemouth 4 times previously the queens hotel offers the best value for money in comparison to other hotels. The only negative point was parking but understand this is common problem in Bournemouth.
Far better than comments suggest
from KentishTravellers
Ive just stayed at this hotel on business. If you'r thinking of staying here do, dont be put off by some of the comments because it really is a rather good hotel, It deserves more than 3 stars. Originally I was booked for 2 nights but this had to be changed, it was done efficiently and and helpfully. When you first arrive the initial impression is very good it looks like a hotel should look like ( and it looks better than the Carlton next door ) The reception is fine and well furnished. Like all hotels of whatever rating in places it needs a little decorating but that is really the only "criticism" I have. I had an executive room and it was huge. Couple of small problems in the room but they were sorted quickly, friendly and efficiently and I had a great stay, I would particularly say the bed was REALLY COMFY so much so that I didnt want to get out of it. I was also rather impressed with the bathroom. It had a good colour scheme and very rarely in my experience had a window, Another plus was the room had a proper television. Not one of those awful hotel things on a turntable where you get everything easily except the tv channels!!!! it was really cosy sitting on the sofa with the rain lashing against the window watching "Celebrity... " (well 2 out of 3 isnt bad!!!! )I was really apprehensive about the breakfast as several people have mentioned it. It was fine. I had something which was cooked to order, it arrived within the time suggested and it was lovely, the nicest hotel breakfast Ive had in quite a while. If you are going to Bournemouth I can recommend this hotel, it really doesent deserve some of the comments made
really nice hotel
from Garrry
my girlfriend and I stayed at The Queens Hotel whilst visiting friends and had really pleasent stay. The staff were very welcoming and always on hand with information. The rooms were clean and in really good condition with everything you need. Great location. I now know it's a recenlty renovated hotel under new ownership. It feels more like a hotel that's been running smoothly for years. Very nice indeed.
does what it says on the tin!!!

I really enjoyed my stay at the hotel. The staff were really nice and the food was excellent. The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly which is really important for me. The cost was reasonable too so you ceratainly got value for money. There are so many hotels in Bournemouth to choose from its hard to go in blind and not know which ones are good etc, I would definitely stay at the Queens hotel again- you know what you are getting- relaxed friendly service and good value for money, which is all I need when going away for a weekend- lets be honest i was down the beach more than i was at the hotel anyway!!!
Small, uncomfortable rooms
from TvdZwan
I stayed here for three nights, while attending a course at the Bournemouth University. I was here with two colleagues, we all had single rooms. The experience of the hotel for all of us was pretty much the same. The rooms are ridiculously small. Especially the beds, shouldn't all beds be at least 2m long? Also, the matresses were softer on one side which meant that I kept rolling towards the side. Furthermore, there was no air-conditioning. With the huge fans outside you had to leave the windows closed to get a decent night's sleep. Breakfast protocol was unadequate, you had to wait too long to be served. During the last night of my stay, the bathroom door got locked from the inside. I noticed this around 6 AM. Unfortunately, it couldn't be fixed until 8. The 'fixing' consisted of some janitor sticking a pen in the lock and explaining that this happens more often... In conclusion, you can probably get a better deal elsewhere.

Any hotel that claims 100% of its bedrooms are large, spacious, with good outlook and exclusively double bedded is either a higher star rating than us (4 or 5*) a new build (the Queens is at least 25 years old now so give us a bit of credit... ) or lying!
Unfortunately our single rooms are exactly what they say they are - for single occupancy. I don't believe any comment was made to Hotel Management to allow us the opportunity to rectify this complaint. Where possible single occupancy is given a double room unless we are full (which despite the crap rating we get on TripAdvisor is quite often so we must be doing something right!)
Rude and incompetent
from Pauluslondinium
Just returned home from five nights at the Queens Hotel having attended a conference in Bournemouth. I imagine this was once a grand hotel, but it's now well past its prime. There is no airconditioning in the rooms, which makes it rather uncomfortable at nights. The decor is old fashioned (but not charmingly so) and rather grubby. Room cleaning service is kept to the bare minimum. The dinng room is presided over by an officious manager who insists on correct seating protocol even when there are only a handful of guests. There are alot of waiting staff (most of whom don't speak english very well and are prone to misinterpret your order) who are obviously terrorised by this man. Portion control at breakfast is very tight and a member of staff is despatched to serve you at "the self serve breakfast buffet" to ensure no one takes more than one rasher of bacon. Restraunt wine prices are ridiculously inflated. The overall impression is that they are doing you a favour, rather than seeing you as a paying guest. The conference organisers mistakenly booked me in for five nights, but told me I was booked in for six. As a result I returned one afternoon to discover that my personal belongings had been packed for me. I was informed that they needed the room for another guest and that the packing of my belongings had been supervised by the duty manager. After I recovered from the shock I checked my belongings only to discover everything had been thrown haphazardly into my case and my camera and laptop were missing. The duty manager assured me that the room had been completely emptied. At my insistence she escorted me like a criminal to my room, where I discovered the maid placing my missing belongings in a large plastic refuse sac. I was then informed that I should have placed valuables in the safe at reception and additionally should not have taken the room key out of the building but to have left it at reception too. I was not told about this when I checked in, but I was expected to know this somehow. Her overall tone was condescending and rude, as I was somehow responsible for all of this. An unpleasant end to an unsatisfactory stay at the Queen's Hotel.

I am making a general response rather than relating to any particualr comments.
From mid-July 2006 the hotel has come under new ownership. One of the first areas that we will be giving serious attention to is public area / room decor, we have recently expanded the maintenance team and several projects have already been undertaken. We will be keeping you updated where possible on further details of our refurbishment plans.
I have been working at the Queens for 5+ years and through several owners / ‘regimes’ and although I would never blame any previous owner on the current state of the hotel I can personally say that staff moral has been raised by the interest shown by the new proprietors and I hope that we will restore the Queens Hotel to its original prominence.
With reference to many of the comments received on this website, since I joined the senior management team I have operated an open door policy to guests wishing to impart feedback and criticism and I can honestly say that many of the complaints posted here have not sought to discuss their grievances with myself. I am saddened that some individuals have chosen to give the hotel a proper ‘slagging off’ based on selective incidents and I would like to be given the opportunity to resolve many of these past grievances and restore faith in the hotel not to mention improve our rating with Trip Advisor.
