So Disappointed
This is quite an old hotel and one of 3 built next to each other by the same chain. One has had a £million pound refit and this is screaming out for the same. The room standard is appalling and is in desperate need of a makeover. The original furniture wouldn't grace a second hand shop. Our room had stains on the carpet, edges peeling off of the furniture which was also scratched and worn looking. So was the door!
One set of curtains were falling to bits and covered in holes! The bathrooms are very dated and very poor for hotel standards. The shower was barely functional. Most guest houses have superior rooms than this. We complained and got a move without any problem but the new room was only marginally better. The rooms and linen are clean and the staff are very friendly and helpful but we were so disappointed in the quality of the rooms it's untrue. Definitely the worst rooms I’ve ever encountered at any hotel. The pool needs cleaning out the front of the hotel which doesn't add to the image at all. The service is fine & everything else (apart from those rooms) is fine. The bar is OK as is the restaurant and the breakfast was good. The location is very good and has easy access to the town. I paid £140 for the room but the standard is just not what you expect for that price or star rating. Sorry but wouldn't return or recommend unless they completely refurbish the accommodation. Isn’t the quality of your room an essential ingredient to enjoying your stay at any hotel or am I losing the plot?

My wife and I booked into the Cliffside for a short stay for our wedding anniversary; we were amazed at the quality of the accommodation for the price.
The staff were all so friendly, and went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable.
The room was an en-suite with a fantastic sea view and very clean and comfortable.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone, it's not the Ritz but at the prices they charge you would have to go a long way to find a hotel that has friendlier service or nicer facilities. (Full English breakfast left us full until mid afternoon!)

If you want a hotel where you have to drive aroung the area for half and hour trying to get parked and want to carry your luggage from a distance then this is the hotel for you. The rooms are small but seemed clean. The plug in the bath had no chain making it impossible to pull out to let the water run away. The blanket on the bed resembled something, I imagine would be used in the army many years ago. On a positive note the staff were friendly and helpful, and seemed calm when other hotel users were getting irate and upset by the rooms they encountered on arrival. There are better hotels in the area that offer superior facilities than this one at the same cost.
