Jul 2011, Pudding

Stayed at the Village hotel in Bournemouth on 13th July 2011 for 2 nights. Disappointed with standard of hotel and I would say it is a 3 star only hotel and having stayed in many DeVere hotels this certainly does not rate as highly. Rooms are pretty basic and more of a... more

We booked this hotel on the internet and when we arrived late morning we were told that we could not go into our room because the room would not be ready. Nowhere on the internet did it state that you had to arrive after a certain time. We went away and came back later to... more

We recently enjoyed a two night stay at this hotel. Being a new hotel everything is clean and new. The staff are friendly, efficient and only to happy to help except when you check out, then you find you are no longer able to use the hotel facilities. We wanted to have a... more

Good value Weekend
I have just returned from a two night stay at this hotel, where my husband, 7 month and myself had a great weekend. The hotel room was spacious, well equipped and a travel cot was waiting in the room on arrival. The breakfast buffet was impressive with a large choice of food and although travelling on a weekend the restaurant did not seem overly busy even though the hotel was virtually full. We were on a d,b&b rate so ate at Salingers in the evening. We were not overly impressed with the starters but ate steak on both nights which were delicious and highly recommended. In terms of travelling with the baby, the hotel seemed very welcoming of children. There was an adequate supply of highchairs and the restaurant staff were happy to warm up bottles. Two slight inconveneinces we found were that the baby monitor reception stopped just short of the door of the restaurant (we were staying on the fourth floor) and the air temperature in the leisure club was quite cold meaning that our baby started shivering as soon as we left the pool. The pool was nice though and the family changing was an unexpected bonus. In short we would visit this hotel again and would look to use other hotels in the chain.
Relaxing Stay
Stayed for 1 night, on 21st Jan 2007. Rooms modern and clean, plenty of space for 2 people, (probably cramped for a family of four). Pub is just like a normal pub rather than a hotel bar, much more relaxing. Pub food quick and tasty, and reasonably priced. Staff friendly. Only complaint was that Salingers Restaurant was understaffed and food was only ok. Overall very happy with stay, and would recommend. I would definately use the Village Hotel chain again.
Good value family hotel
Stayed for 2 nights in December on a 2 nights for 1 deal. The hotel is about 5-10 mins drive from the beachfront and towncentre so you have to rely on a car but its not too far. The hotel is quite compact and efficient but not luxurious. It feels a bit crowded at times. The Spa is fine and the pool is large although again a little crowded. The rooms are pleasant, smart and clean. We had 2 adults and 2 kids in the room and it was a bit cramped but not too bad for a couple of nights. The hotel is a little understaffed at breakfast time and they struggled to make sure that everyone was served quickly. There is a bar and a coffee shop, both good to relax in. Overall, we had a good value family break. I'd recommend the hotel.
Very Impressive!
Stayed at The Village Bournemouth on the night of Saturday 16th December. Plenty of parking available at hotel, check-in process nice and easy. Room was spacious and clean. Paid £89 for two of us B&B and this includes use of the SPA facilties (25m pool, suana, jacuzzi, steam room) and a large GYM. Breakfast was very good - treatments goods and reasonably priced. Will definitely be back.
OK, Clean Hotel
This hotel is a little non-descript. Featureless from the outside and pretty average inside. I stopped here for 2 nights on business, the location for me was perfect as I was working next door. The room was a little on the small side but very clean and very adequate. The restaurant also offered an excellent breakfast choice and was very efficient. I believe that the gym facilities were complimentary, looking at the amount of people using the gym im guessing that it had everything a fitness fanatic would ever need. I did use the bar for food on the second day for lunch, which I have to admit, was disappointing. Taxi into Bournemouth town centre is 10 minutes where you can find dozens of restaurants, if you like Italian you must try Alcatraz, food and service are excellent.
Excellent All Round
We've just come back from a three night break here and it was fantastic! Clean, tidy, room was brilliant with large TV and bathroom. Pool area was fantastic, steam room with oils filtering through, fantastic sauna and showers with soap in changing rooms which were lovely :-) The salingers restaurant was lovely, for breakfast and main course. Warning though, if you do the early dinners deal the deserts are tiny! Breakfast had large choice and very well done. Always stocked up. In fact on the Monday it was empty and there was loads! Tip for weekend, follow advice in the lift on when the quiet periods for breakfast are. We did and we found it to be dead right. Village pub was noisy and smoky. The food was ok, but appeared bad value when compared to Salingers. Drinks were also expensive, as you would imagine in a hotel, however if you showed your hotel room card you got 10% off! Downside, lift. Impossible to get at times as only one. We were also on 5th floor and walking up, in heels, after a few drinks was not good!! A fantastic place though and we will definately go back. Just a shame about the view from the room, a hospital! But hey we weren't in there long :-)
GREAT PLACE for ANYONE to stay. Luxury at affordable prices
I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL. I stayed here for a conference and I have to say I was VERY impressed by 90% (there were a few niggles that could have easily been avoided) Reception - staff welcoming, pleasant and accommodating. There is also a Costa coffee/snack bar too (:-) (They also couldn’t do enough for me when there was a problem with my bill) Beds - comfy and pillows big and fluffy. (we had a sofabed for our daughter and she slept through without any gripes, so it must have been comfy too) Rooms - spacious and well equipped. Not enough towels (2 for a room sleeping 4!) but soon rectified. VERY clean all around Pool/Spa LOVELY and warm pool. Nice lounge chairs in a conservatory with small outside area too. VERY clean changing areas, with many facilities. Children have set times for swimming, whereby there are floats, etc. for them to use at their leisure. In the evenings the pool is dimly lit with blue lights for a wonderful evening / ‘chill out’ experience. Steam room, sauna and Jacuzzi – LOVELY, warm and clean. Spa treatments are always a must for me and they certainly didn’t let me down here either. Michelle was my therapist for a total holistic body treatment, lasting a wonderful 90 minutes and WORTH EVERY PENNY. Danielle was my reflexologist and again WORTH EVERY PENNY. She was a) great and b) very knowledgeable about her profession. TIP : do NOT let the front Leisure desk book or discuss treatements with/for you, they messed up twice for me which meant I was close to NO treatments at all . If you want to book, speak to ONLY the Healthworks Spa reception staff. Food / Beverages - Breakfast was plentiful and fresh (although the eggs were OVERCOOKED big time – yep, I mean green!) There is an elevator but be prepared for a wait, it is VERY slow. Altogether, I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL Finally, if you are visiting Bournemouth for a holiday, do not expect much. There is very little to do, except shop (ie., no real seaside 'things' to do)
Good hotel on edge of town
Attended this hotel for one night during a business conference. The room was a good standard and included a bath with intergral shower. No mini bar in my room but tea and coffee provided. Room had a large fan and this was provided because the room got very hot during the night and there was no air conditioning which is a pity considering it is a new hotel. The hotel is only a 10 minute taxi ride from Bournemouth airport (taxi fare £9). A taxi to town also cost me £9 also and took about 10 minutes by car. The hotel overlooks a huge new hospital but the room was very quiet. The leisure facilities are good with a large pool, sauna, jaccuzzi and steam room. The breakfast is buffet style and of a reasonable standard but nothing special. I had a carvery lunch which was of a very good standard. There is a small cafe in the foyer which serves good coffe and pannini which is fine for lunch. The hotel has only one lift which can be crowded at check out times. Staff were friendly and helpful. This hotel has a more corporate than leisure feel and is not in the best position for Bournemouth town, however it offers a good modern standard for accommodation for reasonable prices.
Most Enjoyable
We stayed in this hotel during the first week in August 2006. We had booked two rooms and would echo the problem of having the rooms allocated close together. The reception staff were very helpful and soon able to rectify the situation. The hotel is new and has good facilities. The rooms were very well appointed with a nice sitting area complete with cushions! A few drawbacks: - why build a large hotel with one small passenger lift? It was almost impossible to get the lift in the morning especially when a coach party is checking out. We ended up carrying our suitcases down the stairway, not a problem for us but could be for others less capable. Secondly it would appear there is no air conditioning in the room, there were portable fans in the rooms, which were noisy at night. Why build a new hotel without suitable room temperature controls? Lastly the rooms at the back of the hotel back onto a 24hour supermarket which receives deliveries at night. You cannot leave the window open without being disturbed by reversing lorries, however when the window is closed the sound is very muted … OK when it’s not hot. The breakfast was superb with excellent choices. Make sure it is included in your room rate, as it could be very expensive. Ladies be warned the Castlepoint shopping centre is about one mile away, and is not as close as their website would have you believe ! All in all though a very enjoyable stay and we will return in the future.
