We booked the Royal Exeter Hotel based on the great reviews and the way it sells itself on the website. I must admit that it IS a good hotel with modern bars, professional service, good breakfast choice and a great location. However, we booked family rooms at the hotel during the school holidays to spend a few days on the beach and unfortunately no one bothered to tell us when booking that the hotel is extremely child unfriendly. We were made to feel very unwelcome in every area of the hotel facilities (at around 6.30pm) as children are not... more
Great Location - Good rooms
This hotel was just recently renovated. It is right across the street from the BIC and the pier. The hotel has character (squeaky floors and a great staircase). but still a lot of amenities. Each room has a heated towel rack, trouser press, tv and more. We had a very large twin room and a small, but adequate single room. Both had very clean ensuite bathrooms. The staff was friendly. The only downside was mentioned before. We had a room above the nightclub and the music played until 12am. It wasn't terrible, but slightly annoying.... more
Excellent cocktails!
We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights during a recent long weekend break in Bournemouth. The location is excellent, 5 minutes from the beach and 5 minutes from town. We booked through Expedia and were allocated a large family room even though we'd only booked a double and we therefore had masses of space. The room was tastefully decorated, the bathroom in need of an update but perfectly clean. There's clearly been more money spent on the public areas of the hotel. The two bars, 1812 and Bar So are modern, stylish and have an extensive... more
Nice Hotel, good location
Hotel is very contempory with a homely feel. Room we had was very spacious althought a little dated compared to the decor with the rest of the hotel. Felt some features in room had been updated whilst others were neglegted. Clean tidy & pleasant service. Bars in the hotel are well worth a try to, especially the cocktails. Ideal location for the town and beach. Car park has limited space. Would stay again.
Comfy room
Comfortable room. Close to conference centre. 2 min walk to seafront but you cannot see the sea from hotel, well I couldnt. Free secure parking (lifting barrier on carpark) Terrible service in front bar. There was a menu on the table. I wanted to order food but the girl behind the bar saw me but would not come to take my order even though there was only about 5 other customers at tables. The bar staff were too busy chatting to each other. I presume that if there are menus on tables that there is table service ?? I... more
Excellent hotel in an excellent location
Have just spent 5 nights at this hotel whilst attending Conference at the BIC. Fantastic location just opposite the BIC, beach and promenade. The room was very comfortable and cleaned every day to a high standard. Delicious breakfasts with everything you could possibly wish for - from full cooked breakfast to fruit, yoghurts, pastries, etc. The staff were all friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone, whether for business or leisure.
Lovely hotel, great location - needs some attention
When I walked into the reception it definately was alot nicer than I had expected. You can see that they have spent alot of money doing it up. Unfortunately the rooms are a bit lacking. We had the Titan Suite and it definately needs a refurb. The posters on the four poster bed were just about to fall off!! They did say in their brochures that the rooms was due for a refurb. I would recommend the hotel and I would definately go back again.
Great Bar, great location room average
Stayed at this hotel because I was going to a concert at the BIC. The hotels locations is excellent and the bar and restaurant very modern and relaxing. I booked a single room for £50 which was reasonable and the room was Ok if a little old fashioned. I understand all the rooms are being modernised which will bring it up to scratch. Nice hotel and would stay again if in Bournemouth.
Fantastic Central Location
My 11 year old son and I have just returned from a 4 night stay at the Royal Exeter and loved every minute of it. The hotel is so handy for both the promenade/beach and the town centre and gardens that we needn't have driven anywhere for entertainment. We were on the beach every day which took five minutes to get to. One night we did drive out to meet friends and came back to find a full car park but one quick call to reception saw someone quickly make a space for us. The hotel looked to be very popular with locals as well as tourists.... more
Good location
The Royal Exeter Hotel has recently been refurbushed so try and get a modernised room during your stay. We stayed for a weekend in September and the room and bathroom were a moderate size, though the view was lovely. The staff were helpful and the restaurant menu looked good. There is also a bar, Bar So, attached to the hotel which is a decent place to begin your evening, or the hotel bar offers a quieter atmosphere with leather sofas for comfort. This hotel is a short walk from the park, town centre and seafront, making it an... more
