Kimothoi Villa Livadia
7 / 10
Oct 2008, Mr Atkinson

This holiday villa is located in Lavadia in Western Crete. It really is in the middle of nowhere and out of season most things are shut.
The villa itself is nicely constructed and although it is set amongst a handful of other villas all run by the same family it doesn't seem like you're in a holiday complex. The pool was a good size, although slightly nippy in October.
There is a fantastic large terraced area by the pool and views down on to the rocky coast and sea. Great for evening sunsets. There is a nice large balcony at the rear, which is perfect for the morning sun.
At the time of writing this in October 2008 the fixtures and fittings are somewhat tired, but adequate.
You can buy limited basics from the families small shop. They also offer to cater for you but I would advise you make sure you know the prices before you buy. We thought it was horrifically expensive. €80 for seven slices of moussaka.
Unless you are happy sitting by the pool for seven days, you will inevitably end up doing quite a lot of driving so be prepared for all the hairpin bends. It is not quite getting anywhere.
We booked with Simply Greece. The service was great. The price was excellent because they were doing a discount and the flights to and from Gatwick to Chania very easy. The price even included 2 hire cars because we were seven people.

This villa is actually called Villa...
10 / 10
Oct 2007, Mrs L Barton

This villa is actually called Villa Kimothoe and is one of 7 villas called the Amygdalia villas which are in Livadia. (See their own web site). If you have seen these villas in the Simply Travel brochure please note the photos are all wrong and the photo shown is for Lefkothea villa, however, Villa Kimothoe is just as impressive. It has a beautiful private pool, fantastic decor and all the mod cons. There is a small supermarket on site (nothing like a complex at all) run by the family who own the villas. The family will also cook traditional food if ordered the day before. The other 5 villas are smaller and each has its individual name.
Livadia is a very small Cretan village and has no beach as such but the shoreline is rocky and very interesting for children. The road to the village from the main mountain road is very windey, we counted 28 hairpin bends!! Don’t let that put you off though, if you love remote, rural Crete and like driving to find remote Cretan tavernas you will love these villas a we did.
I would recommend stocking up at Kissamos before driving down to the villas and take a can opener as there wasn’t one! I would also recommend hiring a 4x4 vehicle. Some of the unsurfaced roads provide great short cuts, i.e. you can get to Elafonisi in 20 mins on an unsurfaced road, and the other way takes 40 mins at least.
Once again a fantastic Villa for a self contained holiday if you want isolation and don’t mind driving on the most appealing roads in Crete!
