NEVER AGAIN

My family and i stayed at this hotel for three nights,on our last night we had to ask for a change in rooms as there was a problem with the heating, eventually we got moved(to a smaller room)whilst in this room i found the room looked clean only to find soiled sheets and two pills on the floor with a toddler this was very worrying.I nformed the night porter who said there was no management on duty, within half an hour i seen one of management leaving to my discust.i spent a lot of my last night worried about what could of happened if my son had found these pills and not me.We went to reception first thing in the morning to speak to management who still wasnt on duty we waited which was a waste of time as the manager didnt seem at all interested,i showed him the pills which he wouldnt look at we asked him to go to the room he said he was busy,he accused me of being aggresive to his night porter and id had a drink.I explained im not a aggresive person i was very upset which i explained and id had two pints. He just didnt want to take responsibility he made it very clear he wasnt interested i said you havent even apoligised which he still wouldnt apologise to my discust. He said i will have to speak to my house keeping,i explained what if my son had found these he could of ended up in hospital or worse. His reply was "well he isnt in hospiital"and it isnt his fault.I explained this could of being prevented if his house keeping did there job properly. We left a very unhappy family. When i arrived home i took these pills to the chemist to be told one was warfarin and the other was for cholestreral.Which was very disturbing to hear.Eventually the bancourt wrote to us offering one nights stay money back.WE WILL NEVER STAY AT THIS HOTEL AGAIN AS THIS WAS A VERY FRIGHTENING EXPERIENCE AND THE WAY WE WERE TREATED WAS APPALLING.IT RUINED OUR HOLIDAY PUT MY SONS HEALTH AT RISK AND WE DIDNT RECIEVE AN APOLOGY UNTIL A WEEK LATER IN A LETTER FROM THE ASSISTANT MANAGER.I found the hotel owner very rude and arrogant he classed this as being assertive.
would not stay again

Booked as a last minute with the hotel. Recetionist said just off the side street to sea front. This a good 20 minute walk. Hmm. Room quite pleasant and clean. Garden could do with a good trim and tidy up. food was quite plain and was and done on a budget. some food combinations were a little strange brussel sprouts and fish pie?. it seems it mainly cater for large parties. one waitress was boardering on the point of being rude, but was rushed off her feet. dinner was at 7pm so that it made it difficult to go out for evening. checked out early
fantastic break had by all

Could not fault anything with this hotel. Family who run the hotel were all very friendly and eager to help in any way they could. We had a problem with our shower which was sorted out very promptly and professionally. Gardens are lovely. The room was slightly tired however we could see that there was redecorating taking place in some rooms so presume that the hotel is constantly being refurbished to a great standard. There was a wedding taking place one day which you would think would take up the staffs time but there was plenty to keep everyone happy. We will definately be coming back!! A home from home!!
Great Weekend Away!
from WalterTower
A large group of us arrived on our annual Pub outing from Bristol on a Friday afternoon. On arrival, we were welcomed into the entertainment room for tea/coffee, where the Hotel facilities were explained along with the new silly rule from the local authority that the swimming pool can only be used if there are two people present! While we were in there, all the bags were unloaded from the coach. The meals, both breakfast and evening dinner were well presented and not at all bad for the price. Nice quick service in the restaurant helped matters along. Entertainment, as was the case the previous year was OK, but it was unfortunate that the Friday act was the same one we saw last year on the Saturday evening. Having said that, the Saturday act was even better. As part of our weekend, the bar was free to out party between 8:00 – 11:00pm. This was OK, but the range of “free” drinks was limited. Full price therefore after 11:00pm. The bonus Saturday night was a Northern Soul/Motown Disco in the basement bar. Maybe not to everyone’s taste, but there again I’m biased. GREAT!! Being within a 30 minute walk to the town centre, this is a nice place to stay.
Excellent place to stay

We found this hotel very friendly with all staff more than happy to help at all times. The level of service and food was very good indeed. The Family room was spacious and the children were catered for very well. Evening entertainment was great. Cant really fault anything about this hotel... excellent place to stay!
Very Poor

Seemed nice on arrival but was then subjected to a 30 min lecture on the hotels rules ( was like being in school ) The working staff of the hotel were very friendly and helpful but the management seemed not be very unapproachable with the numerous problems we had with our room .For a family run Hotel the family were that that friendly . They seemed to degrade there staff ( this is through something i heard myself so it is not hearsay )It must of made the young man seem very bkg and important . I would not recommend this hotel unless you just want somewhere to sleep for the night and dont mind how you treated .
completely unacceptable for families

this hotel was terrible. We arrived and our rooms were not ready. They did not seem to care that we had small children. A maintenance man came to move a bed during the week!! This happened , and then a cleaner was sent in to hoover up, whilst we were in the room. This was a special time for my family , and unfortunately, was spoit by this hotel and its bad management. Reception was lacking in customer services, and the whole thing was a shower. I would like to tell other families of this experience.

We are sorry you feel you have had an unhappy stay at The Bancourt.. We do tell all our guests that the rooms will not be ready before 2pm, if they are then you would have been more than welcome to use the room early. If there was a problem and any kind of mess in the room we would obviously clean this especially with young children in,
What a lovely hotel

Decided to sample the delights of Torquay on our way back home from a holiday in Cornwall and ended up staying in the Bancourt purely by chance. Not knowing anything about hotels or b&b's in Torquay we just did a quick search on the internet and ended up on Bancourts website. Looked ok from the pics so we gave them a ring and they could accomodate us for £61 with full english breakfast included. Not bad for two adults and a toddler. Pleasantly surprised when we arrived. Not the most modern hotel and looking a bit tired in places but it was clean, comfortable and we had a huge room with a double bed and a set of bunk beds. Bathroom was spotless and the room had all of the usual accessories (TV, tea and coffee making facilities, etc). The room was very quiet and at the back of the hotel so no disturbance from the main road the hotel sits on or the bar/function room downstairs. The hotel has a small and well kept pool that's free for use by guests but my only gripe is that the changing rooms don't have showers or lockers. Not really needed as the hotel was very quiet on our visit, but would imagine it could cause problems on a busy day. The hotel is about a 15 min walk from the sea front, but if you don't fancy that there is always the passing road train you could jump on. Cost us £4 for a return taxi journey from Torquay marina. The downside to the hotel is that it's old fashioned in its decor but this is made up for by the excellent service and friendliness of all of the staff. Has an onsite bar that will stay open as long as you want it seemed and the breakfast was excellent and freshly prepared. Would be happy to stay again.

The only hotel in the UK that I have visited where the guest is required to pay the balance in full upon arrival. A light lunch at this hotel was a bowl of stew, no bread,no sweet,no coffee this was on Boxing day to be followed in the evening with a Buffet dinner where... more
