Portofino Mare Resort Hotel

We stayed at the Portofino February 1-10, 2006. It was much better than we expected after reading some of the very negative reviews. I don't think too many Americans go to MI and the Portofino is different from what we're used to. However, it does have it's own charm, and different countries have different rating systems for hotels. We did ask for a bigger room (we usually do timeshare trades and are used to staying in condos - our original room was quite small) and we were changed to a suite with beautiful views at no additional charge.... more

Returned from Portofino Hotel Complex, Margarita Island Feb. 13. We enjoyed our two week stay at Portofino. The Complex has a beautiful location , great grounds and swimmining pools. It is situated about a half mile from El Agua beach which is busy with venders and tired looking restaurants and shacks. Main thing you have to ask is would I go back? In a heart beat. Weather was very nice, the place is very clean and as far as the food is concerned you are in South America so the food is not the same. I liked some of it there was plenty and a great variety to have.( I did not get sick). The staff were fantastic the nightly entertainment was excellent. We went to the Portofino Hotel in Venezuela in January. It was awesome! I am sure glad that I didn't read the reviews before I booked or I would never have experienced such an awesome Hotel. I stayed at this hotel in the summer of 1998. It was a last minute allocation on arrival. The first room they gave me smelt of urine and damp! I went to the front desk and the receptionist gave me 3 different keys and told me to choose a room! I eventually chose one of the newer rooms, they were like bungalows - they looked like stone age buildings! Stayed at the portofino January 16-30th and had the best time of our lives. We had so much fun we will be going back next year. Our plane landed early we got to the resort at aprox. 3:30pm and were welcomed by staff with fruit drinks, we missed the Portofino dance due to us being early. We just came back on February 6th from Isla Margarita and stayed at the Portofino Resort. This was an absolutely amazing trip, I cannot say enough about it. Disregard all of the negative comments! I guess we were very fortunate and did not experience anything like they did! The staff were phenominal, extremely friendly and very helpful. Hi Everyone, Just got back from MI on the 23rd/24th of January. Here is my review on our resort. You all know the problems that were listed for the Bella Vista. We changed to the Portofino/Portobello, and are we glad that we did. We stayed at the Hotel Portofino from January 9-16, 2006. Margarita Island provides you with an opportunity to have a cultural experience rather than a traditional Americanized location. GoTravel provides you with very informative tour guides from the airport to the hotel, and you are given ideas of what are good things to do while you're there. Spent the last week of Dec and beginning of Jan at the Portofino. I certainly wasn't impressed. We arrived late at night and when we went to our room we found 2 inches of water on the bathroom floor and it was still there the next morning. I went to guest services and had our room changed without any problem. The new room was better. The rooms are small but that's not a big deal, they were clean.
