We visited Edinburgh for five days during August 2005, it was our first visit and we managed to tie it in with seeing a band (razorlight) at the Corn Exchange in Edinburgh itself. We booked in to the Premier Travel in on Morrison Link close enough to the City Centre but within easy reach of other parts of the Region.
In short we were impressed with the hotel which was roomy, clean and pleasant. The usual facilities were supplied including tea and coffee making equipment, TV, telephone and trouser press. We decided to pay for the breakfast as the accommodation was room only, and we were not disappointed, we thought the price was a bit high but you could have as much as you like as all the hot and cold food was self service.
So if you wanted 3 sausages and 3 rashers of bacon then you could have it. Followed by a tea and a fresh Chocolate muffin.
Moving on to Edinburgh itself, we first visited the new town which in all honesty is just like any other UK city or town with familiar high street shops and department stores. There are some interesting places if you dig deep around the side and back streets with nice little pubs and individual shops.
Edinburgh really shines when you visit the old town which is remarkable, the Haymarket is particularly nice on a pleasant warm evening as you can sit outside drinking in the many pubs. In addition to the watering holes, there are a number of restaurants which serve Italian and traditional faire. Moving on from Haymarket to the main street, sorry I have forgot the name, there are many traditional Scottish shops up towards the castle selling kilts and many more pubs and restaurants on either side.
We decided to opt for one of these Graveyard Tours which commenced at 9.00pm, I would recommend you try one as its a truly eerie experience, although I didn’t feel or see any paranormal activity others could not enter the 'Black Morsoleum'. If I was to return to Edinburgh I would like to try the Vaults tours.....There was so much to do, this review could go on and on.
Briefly I would recommend the following
Visit Haymarket on a warm summers evening and have a drink.
Go to 'Frankenstein’s' bar and restaurant and see the unusual decor and experience one of their sizzling main courses. The Steak strips in Fajitas is great!
During the day visit 'Mary’s Close' great for all ages.
In the evening go on a 'graveyard' or 'vaults' tour and be prepared to be scared!
If you want to get away from city life go to North Berwick seaside town. Picturesque traditional town where you can have fish'n'chips on the sandy beach.
Plenty more to recommend, visit this wonderful city!

Excellent stay for 2 nights in Edinburgh!
Much has been said about Travel Inns, but this one is near the centre of Edinburgh, at the west end of Princess Street, about 20 minutes walk to the cfoot of the castle.
The hotel is well presented, clean and tidy and the breakfast and dinner was very good value for money, and of good quality.
Being slightly away from the centre means that its quiet at nights, and also handy for all transport : being 2minutes from the mainline stations and just off the main raod into Edinburgh.
Great value and great facilities for a weekend away!
