Costa Doiro Ambiance Village

We have just returned from a week spent at this hotel, after booking what we thought would be a 4* hotel with luxury as per the pictures on their website. Upon arrival late Sunday evening, we should have first been warned by the size of reception, a desk in a small room!! We had requested a ground floor room, but were taken up 2 flights of stairs in the main "hotel" to the only room at the front which overlooks the road, the room was very small and pokey. A very quiet village. Not suitable for older children as there was only the indoor pool for entertainment. Outdoor pool was freezing and not situated in a good position. Rooms were very basic but beds were comfy. Need a bit of redecoration. On the plus side, breakfast was fantastic. Bar was tiny and had no atmosphere. I wouldnt go back again to this village but Lagos itself was a very interesting and beautiful resort.

Stayed first at the sister holtel Marazul which was very clean set in lovely well kept grounds. Moved into the Costa D' Orio for the second part of our holiday. Free Internet, Windows Professional system. Again all the staff were wonderful particularily the receptionists. Marta really impressed my wife with her friendlyness, speed in assistance with virtually all tourist' needs , directions and took time to explain local life & issues which were very interesting. This hotel is rated as a 4 star hotel and yet: * the quality of the room was very poor- shabby furniture, tiled very cold floor with no rugs or mats; no ventilation in bathroom; no bath; very poor water pressure and poor hot water provision, when returning in the evening there was no hot water; there is no TV as the only channels are german or portugese. * due to being so far from the main hotel we often didn't get our room serviced. * the hotel advertises pool and otrher leisure facilities- we were 10 minutes walk away from... more

We have recently returned from a 3 night stay at the Costa D'oiro Ambiance Village. Having visited during low season we received very reasonable rates less than GBP30 B&B per night for two. Although located slightly out of town it is probably the closest hotel to the grottos (seen on all Algarve postcards) - 600m. Facilities are abundant and the atmosphere is suitable for both families and couples. Be warned - this is a very nice hotel but you may find as we did that, although it is the hotel you've booked and paid for, on arrival you will be told you are not staying there but have been upgraded to another hotel 3km away up a mountain, rather than 300m from the beach. This other hotel is luxurious and more expensive but probably won't suit families as it's rather chi chi and hushed. Just arrived back from our Portugal holidays. As it was our first time in Portugal we didn't knew what to expect, but we got surprised in a positive way. After arriving at this lovely small hotel with comfortable rooms and really friendly staff we spent fantastic days, and not to forget great dinners that we had in the Village's Restaurant. This is a new concept in accommodation. When we first arrived we were told that our room was not in the hotel itself but 10 minutes walk away. We were a bit apprehensive but the hotel has lots of small apartment complexes dotted around the area. Small, privacy, personal service(after one day all know or name), felt at home away from home, great location-close to old town and beach(200m)

Small Hotel, nicely decorated. very friendly staff in the reception and bar/restaurant areas. Small area for swimming pools but very attractive. Surrounding villas and aprtments belonging to the hotel nearby. Unless you are good walkers I feel a car is a necessity.It is a good walk into the main resort. Taxis can easily be used or a small road train runs round the resort every hour. I would recommend if you want something quiet in a panoramic area.
