Ticks all the boxes - stylish, location, service....all round pleasurable experience
First impressions of the building were very positive and this was maintained throughout walking through the hotel and upon entering the very stylish rooms. The location of the hotel is a massive plus point which is within walking distance of the main nightlife and retail spots and also right next to the station. Taxis are availible for as far as the eye can see ( like the carlsberg advert ) right outside the hotel if you don't fancy walking. A very high standard of service was clearly the norm for all staff. They even put our 'doggy... more
A Pleasant Stay
Arrived late on a sunday night got off the train and found the hotel straight away outside the station. Yes it is opposite a train station but the noise was not really evident. Stayed for 3 nights and ate in the restaurant 2 nights and the food was good and well presented. All in all a good stay at a good hotel.

Thank you for your review. I am glad to hear you enjoyed your stay at the hotel and look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.

Definitely a special hotel. Just not as special as it thinks it is.
A 'boutique' hotel conveniently near the station and with free parking. It aims high but is still a work in progress for reaching it's goals. The rooms are attractively styled and a pleasant garden outside is nice for relaxing. The restaurant has a grasp that exceeds it's reach. Succulent dishes such as crispy duck pancakes and crispy belly pork are attractively shown on a moving slide display near reception, but but the duck was cooked to extinction and the belly pork poorly prepared. As it is a generally pleasant hotel, I raised the matter... more

Thank you for your review. I enjoyed our conversation on the day and I can assure you we have taken all your comments very seriously. I would again like to apologise for the shortfalls you encountered. We are now taking great strides in rectifying these issues and we have now entered a period of retraining focusing on service, especially in our restaurant. I hope you will return in the future and give us the opportunity to show you the strides we are making.

Nice decor, pity about staff, location and food
We booked a two night deal based on bed & breakfast - the breakfast hot buffet was unattended from it's inception and almost inedible (if anything was left) if you came down after 8am. A polite request for a used milk jug on our table to be replaced met with a 'yup' as the waitress reached her fingers into the jug to lift it and then filled same in front of our incredulous eyes. The waiting staff couldn't even bring themselves to say Good Morning (much the same for our evening meal the first night which was mediocre and overpriced).... more

Thank you for your review. We have taken your comments very seriously and are working to ensure the levels of service encountered are nor repeated. We are putting all our employees through a customer training program and I am confident the levels of service have already improved dramatically. We have also intoduced an online survey to allow guests to voice their concerns. The hotel bar and restaurant are open to the general public and we do get trade from the station. Which does give the hotel public areas a busy feel.

Please note railway works continue throughout the entire night...
Is what should be highlighted on the Hallmark Derby Hotel's website, and to all potential customers prior to booking. Of course they won't! I arrived after 11pm to find that there was construction work being carried out on the railway line, which is immediately outside the hotel. Having asked at the time of booking, for a room on the opposite side of the building, I thought I should confirm the room faced away from the construction work when I arrived. Alas it didn't, and the only other available rooms all faced the noise. I... more

Thank you for your review. The train station in Derby has undergone a facelift and unfortunately this did cause some noise issues at this time. We have been working with the railway to minimise any distruptions to our guests but on this occassion the system failed and I would like to apologise. The work is nearing completion and the noisy elements have finished, meaning we will have no further issues. I hope you will consider using us in the future and enjoy a pleasant stay.

Lovely stay at Hallmark Midland
This was a perfect one night stay, conveniently located next to the train station and with a free car park located adjacent. Easy to find. Its not in the most salubrious area of town (areas near stations rarely are) but the area is safe and an easy 10 min walk into the centre of town. We were meeting friends and family at the wonderful Anoki indian restaurant just round the corner (highly recommended www.anoki.co.uk top 10 indian in the UK) so ideal for us. The hotel has recently been refurbished and is spotlessly clean and modern in decor.... more
Leisure break spoiled by food and noise
We had stayed here before when it was part of Best Western, now Hallmark, and enjoyed our stay well enough to return. What a mistake. Although the hotel now has a modern up to date feel, this hides shoddy service. The resteraunt is small, and the menu over complicated, and expensive. The service was not a patch on 2008 Best Western. But the main problem was our room. There was nothing wrong with the room, just its position over the air condition units(3+) that ran all night. No sleep from 1am onwards. If you book a room make sure you are not... more
