Marriott Breadsall Priory Hotel

My husband and I enjoyed a two night stay at Breadsall Priory last weekend to celebrate both our Birthday's. First sight of the Priory was breathtaking, it was a beautiful building in the most wonderful location. The grounds are stunning with a lake, hidden gardens and a small pet cemetary, lots of nice features. The whole area is surrounded by two golf courses, it must be a pleasure to play in such beautiful surroundings. They were well used, there was always a group of golfers to be seen on the green. Our room was miles away from Reception at the "Country Club" it was quite a walk to the restaurant but it was straightforward and under cover. The room itself was nice, very clean with a large comfortable bed. The bathroom was clean with a good assortment of toiletries and lots and lots of towels! I had paid extra for a bottle of wine and chocolates as it was a special occassion - they were both really nice and well presented but not worth the extra £29. The restaurant was exceptional, with very friendly staff. The food was wonderful but we were not offered desert on our first night. We sat there for some time and in the end just gave up. This let down an otherwise excellent area - we spoke to a waitress as we left, who did apologise, sadly I still feel we had poor service. However, the next night everything was perfect, together with another bottle of merlot, which at £15 a bottle, a pleasant surprise. Breakfast was also perfect, with just about everything to choose from, brilliant service and a lovely relaxed atmosphere. The Long Weekend Bar/Cafe was nice to relax in but I agree with other reviewers that it's off putting to be looking straight into the pool and at it's swimmers, frosted glass would be a good investment! Another down side is that when busy, it can be noisy and not always possible to get a seat. Every memeber of staff we came into contact with was helpful, freindly and most professional. Althought there isn't much in the immediate vicinity we visited Bakewell, Matlock Bath, Buxton and drove into the Peak District, everything was lovey and all reasonably close. Overall, we enjoyed a relaxing weekend in the most beautiful surroundings, we would definitely recommend Breadsall Priory and hope to be returning soon.
