Chesterfield Hotel

Six of us booked a bank holiday half board break specifically for a very elderly family member, and on our first night, we experienced involvement in staff politics, 170 strong prom event, a closed restaurant, the unavailability of the Manager, and when we did eventually get hold of him (in the middle of the road directing traffic) - his bad attitude. I stayed here for one night on business and it was fine but nothing special. The staff were very friendly and helpful but the hotel itself is shoddy. The room was a good size but it desperately needed updating (it especially needed new bedding!). It was also quite noisy in the room as there is a motorway right outside. If you are looking for a relaxing stay for a few nights it would not be suitable - but for an overnighter it's fine (especially as it's near the train station)

..Stayed at the Hotel on business 3 weekends consecutively . I thought it was excellent value ,booked on line and not direct. Single room clean ,large bathroom. Staff were excellent . Breakfast was very good with full English breakfast with all the trimmings you would expect. This hotel was ideally placed within approx 200yards from the famous Crooked Spire church. Hotel has good Leisure Pool. Would recomend but make sure you book on line and not direct to gain best price.

I had a dreadful stay at this hotel. Room very hot - couldn't open the window because of noise outside. Furniture and fittings were tired and dated. TV was broken, remote was broken, shower was broken, I WAS KEPT AWAKE ALL NIGHT (no exaggeration - until 5am) by noise from the hotel bar. I am not a wingy person who wants 5* hotel at 3* prices. I just like functional and clean with a decent nights sleep. I will NEVER go back - and I suggest you don't either!

When I last stayed at the Chesterfield in January, I was reasonably complimentary about it. Not this time! Check-in was speedy, friendly and efficient after that, things went downhill rapidly! The lift - 15-seonds delay for the door to be released and it's painfully slow speed makes the stairs quicker - I thought such lifts were illegal now. Room 224 - AAAAAAAAGGHH!!! We stayed at the chesterfied for a 2 night break to the peak district. It really needs updating, every part of the hotel creaks even the bath which i thought i woud fall through at any moment. The shower was crap, one of those ones were you have to run around to get wet! The paint was chipped and peeling and holes in the walls where things have been removed were just left. I stayed here and i think firstly the hotel needs refubishment. The lift is knackered and wobbles and is tiny. And eben with the lift - there's still a lot of stairs to climb - luckily the staff were nice enough to give us a hand, else we would have been a v long time going up and down stairs and dealing with a dodgy lift. The room was pleasantly nice - and luckily was not like the rest of the hotel. We arrived late and ate at the restaurant. EXPENSIVE and nothing nice - you could pay less at a top London restaurant for much better... more

I stayed here on business for one night. Its very convinient for the railway station. However.... once past the reception desk and marble floors, you are hit by the smell of cigarette smoke from the bar. This really stinks out the hotel lobby area. The corridors in the hotel creak and groan and are in desperate need of refurbishment. There was no hot water in our room, reception did not care, promises not kept and breakfast is tiny (do not pay £12.95 for it). Go to the local cafe!!! The Chesterfield Legacy hotel is aptly named it left its very own lasting legacy...never ever again!!! Very memorable Valentines getaway.

We stayed at the Chesterfield over christmas while we were visiting relatives and we could not fault the impeccable service and wonderful food. Our room was spacious and the gym was excellent, we will definately return next year.
