station hotel
We stayed at this hotel on sat 25th for one night only . We found this little gem via the web but booked direct over the phone. We usually stay in more modern hotels but couldn't find one close enough with rooms. thank god ! ... yes the floor boards creaked a bit and the ceilings needed a lick of paint but.... food brilliant..staff brilliant..upgarded free to a four poster which impressed my wife as it was an anniversary. The bed was very comfortable and breakfast was very good but struggled to eat a full english because of the meal the... more
It is now the Station Hotel!
Don't go searching for the Beresford Arms, it is renamed the Station Hotel. Totally agree that the welcome from David and the staff are faultless.Customer service is their motto, for sure. No way is the a pub with rooms, and as with lots of these old places, the upkeep is ongoing and the style is not to everyone's taste. Free wi-fi was a bonus, too.
Stay in the main part of the hotel
I get the impression that the rooms in the main body of the hotel are very nice. The rooms in the annex however are quite basic/old fashioned and to be honest a little overpriced. They overlook a pathway skirting the Sainsburys carpark so can be abit noisy at night. The people who run this hotel are very helpful. But I would definitely recommend that you don't book a room in the annex. Although parking is tricky, this hotel is well situated in Ashbourne.
A must
Wonderful Hotel, tastefully decorated with comfortable furniture. Made very welcome by the owners. Fabuous food, beautifully cooked and well presented. Good base for travelling out for the day. Hope to return soon.
Wrap yourself in the Beresford Arms and enjoy!!!!!
My daughters stayed here last year whilst visiting Alton Towers and raved about the place and food so much we decided to go back this year for 3 nights (Monday - Wednesday). First point of contact was Dave, the owner. He very kindly gave us directions on how to get there, to Alton Towers and to the motorway when we were leaving. Thanks, Dave, much appreciated! Unfortunately, when we arrived on Monday night most of this town's restaurants were closed - so we opted for Chinese which was reasonably priced. We enjoyed 3... more
Relaxing and Friendly
In this case 'do not judge a book by its cover'. My wife and in-laws spent a wonderful weekend at this relaxing hotel. The staff were friendly and they could not do enough for you. You were made to feel special. The food was very very good and any wishes or fads that you may have were catered for, the best way they could. The rooms were comfy and clean. At night it was a pleasure to sit in one of the lounges and enjoy locally brewed beer and feel like you were in more of a five star hotel, without all the pomp and ceremony that goes with... more
Average, but certainly not special
We stayed here for one night - and I think so long as you don't expect too much, you won't be disappointed. (It's shown as 2* by the AA sign outside) The hotel is basically a pub with lots of rooms upstairs - but quite a nice pub. The service was excellent, we were warmly welcomed and throughout the stay, and in this area I couldn't fault the place. The room we stayed in was very large (surprisingly so), and very adequate. We did get a view of the Sainsburys carpark - and the alley by the side did have 'youths' in it for a couple... more
A great weekend away at The Beresford Arms Hotel in Ashbourne
This is a lovely family run hotel in Ashbourne. We stayed for a couple of nights in a room on the top floor. The room was very clean, the staff were welcoming and friendly, and the food was great. Having read the last review we could not disagree more with the negative content. We would stay at The Bereford Arms on our next visit without question. This was our first trip to Ashbourne. It's a lovely town. There are many friendly pubs close together in the town and many places of interest close by. All in all it was a great weekend away and... more
avoid, dirty and poor value
We booked this hotel after we found it on the internet. The price quoted was for bed and breakfast, £65 per night. The hotel is really a pub with rooms. We were shown to a very dingy room, no headboard and marks on the wall where it should have been . The carpet was stained and the bathrrom was so dark, you could not have used the mirror.(shower only) The room was down a set of stairs into the basement, very damp smelling and backed onto a path used by most of the youths of Ashbourne, overlooking the Sainsbury's carpark. All of the... more
Management response from shinzo

We are sorry that you did not enjoy, your stay at the Beresford Arms Hotel. We do wonder if you have written a review about the correct hotel as we certainley do not have any basement rooms.

Another great stay...
Visited for first time in April - really enjoyed. Came back this weekend with some friends. Had a great time. Unpretentious hotel. Good quality restaurant and food. Very helpful staff. Clean and comfortable rooms. Excellent location in the Peak District - the start of the Tissington Trail..ideal for an early morning run and coming in late to breakfast but still being looked after. Overall - great value for money. We will return again.
