Hydro Hits The Mark

If you are walking it is a bit of a climb so people with limited mobility may need to think about that. Once you get there it is worth it in every sense. Yes, the hotel is an old building but the family who own it are trying very hard with this building and I could not fault the decoration of our room and the corridors around it. What really gets top marks however is the personal service and attention from a helpful and very pleasant staff. Top marks also for the food. There was good chioce at breakfast and unlike many hotels I have stayed in there was no grease on any of the flavoursome locally sourced produce. Dinner was excellent! The menu can be downloaded so see for yourself. The chefs pay attention to flavour and presentation. Again, locally sourced food is much appreciated. If you get room 21 as we did you will get a fabulous view of the lake. A good sized bedroom with an excellent bathroom is on one level then steps take you down to a seating area with patio doors leading to a terrace. There was a bad weather warning when we were there and it chucked it down all day. Such was our enjoyable and relaxing stay that it did not matter one little bit

Sunday the snow came down and we where unable to get out of the hotel, the car park was snowed in. The hotel owners and staff where exceptional and could not do enough to help.
•Free lunch
•Substantially reduced room rates for the Sunday evening
•Reduced Rates for evening meals
•No charge for guests who used their rooms but eventually managed to leave no matter what time of the day.
In addition to this when a bus tour wished to leave but could not get the bus down the hill, the bus company managed to get a bus to the bottom of the hill and the Hydro’s owner ran his land rover up and down the hill with elderly guests who could not make the hill.
He spent the day pushing cars, towing vehicles up the hill, shoveling snow and generally being the most helpful person I have ever met.
On the day following the Hotel arranged at their cost for a JCB to clear the road (not a private road) and the car park to enable guests to leave safely.
All this was done while they could better have spent their time organising the conference that they had the next day.
They restored my faith in the fact that people shine in a crisis.
