Such a disapoinment! over priced and over rated
I have stayed at The Burn How Hotel many times and thought i knew what too expect, I booked the room a month before our stay and opted for a superior rose garden room rather than one of the chalet style rooms that are also on offer. The superior rose garden room, which is on the second storey of a block of eight rooms has a four poster bed and boasts a balcony with a view over what the Burn How calls a "rose garden" (a patio of dirty slabs with some roses around ite perimeter), all this commands a £10 premium over the standard rooms, a... more
garden view
Late winter break in March, my wife and i booked a lovely room overlooking the large garden, it was the quietest room i've stayed in. Nice size room that would easily accomodate 2 adults and 2 children. The room was clean with tea/coffee facilities etc. the only tiny area of critiscm is that the paintwork would benefit from refreshing, this is only a minor point as the hotel, service and food were excellent. The staff were extremely helpful and courteous and being only a 2 minute walk to either the lake or the shops made a great location for... more
Windemere Winner
Visited Lake Windemere at last minute, en route to Stranrear from Alton Towers, with no accommodation arranged. Booked hotel through local Tourist Office. Was a bit pricey but there was very little available on that day, very close to little village of Bowness with great views, shops, lake trips, etc. The family rooms were chalets outside main hotel with parking alongside. Inside was thankfully very clean, roomy and tastefully decorated. Plently of tea, coffee, juice, biscuits, etc in the room. Bathroom again, spotless. <br... more
Wonderful find in a picturesque town
A quaint hotel with wonderfully cozy rooms. Very clean and well appointed. The shower was great (very good shower pressure and nice hot water)! The staff here are extremely hospitable and it is evident that their aim is to make your stay as pleasant as possible. Meals in the restaurant were a delight and truly an experience into British culture. There is no view of Lake Windermere from this hotel, however, the lake is merely steps away.
International chain with local charm
We stayed at the Burn How as a couple and booked through the Best Western website. It is unfortunate that a previous reviewer did not get further than the third party booking process, because their experience in booking this hotel does not do justice to the experience of staying there. Despite being part of 'the biggest hotel chain in the world' the Burn How thankfully does not bear the hallmarks of corporate blandness that this might imply. The Burn How is located within a five minute walk of Lake Windermere and the shops,... more
new year / christmas rip off !!!!!!!!!!!!
Well we attempted to stay at this hotel for New Year 2005 but after my dealing so far with the hotels management / staff I have been put off for ever and would advise anyone who likes to show that customer service matters DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL. Basically we booked two rooms at the hotel for a three night new years break via a link on their own website with the ref book a room at this hotel which then took you through to the youstay.com website, the booking went through fine and we were looking forward to the break. However when I... more
Excellent Hotel
We stayed at this hotel for the occasion of my 60th birthday having originally booked the Wansfell suite at the Rothay Manor in Ambleside. However the room at Rothay Manor was both musty and extremely tired and we declined to stay. We were therefore delighted to find accommodation at the Burn How where we had a most attractive room (though not one of their superior rooms) and an excellent meal. The hotel is traditionally furnished and decorated and the service too is excellent. I can recommend this hotel to any discerning visitor... more
Excellent location
I booked for 3 nights at the Burn How with the active hotels on-line booking. When I arrived on Good Friday 2005, the Burn How hotel did not have any details of my reservation and although they had one vacancy for that night, they were completely full for the following two. The Burn How hotel was excellent in dealing with my complaint being both understanding and accomodating and managed to get me in to another hotel in the area. The Burn How is perfectly placed in proximity to the town and the room, The Mews, which we stayed in was... more
What a Lovely Surprise!
We have used Best Western Hotels in Europe before and were quite pleased but little information was available on the Burn How. This was truly our favorite hotel on this trip. The hotel staff were top notch and our room was clean, spacious and nicely decorated. You can't beat the location. It's only a short walk to Lake Windermere and the shops, restaurants, etc., but you aren't on a busy, noisy street. You are, however, surrounded by lovely gardens. We really enjoyed our 2-night stay at the Burn How Hotel and look forward to returning.
Excellent Hotel!
We stayed here over the Easter Break, 3* Hotel with 4* service, staff were very friendly, everything well laid out and very comfortable, If you are going to stay here stay at the lodge part, an old victorian house part of the hotel, room was a double and the bed was about queen-size, plenty of room. :o)Food was excellent, we weren't rushed or anything. Would definately come here again, was well situated (about 200metres from Lake Windermere)
